Something about the entirely unergetic Rivers makes this perfect. I feel like it captures the feel of the song pretty well for some reason. The camera work is also pretty good
“words and dreams and a million screams oh how i need a hand in mine to feel” whilst and odd line is definetly the best the harmony the emotion is so beautiful thank you rivers
@Barry Goldwater why did he hate Pinkerton? I'm not that much into the band but that's one of my favourites in general. I love that album, it's so tender.
Because it was a comercial failure it people started to question his songwriting on not only Pinkerton but the blue album as well and that hurt him and caused the band to go into a 5 year hiatus until 2000
I recently saw Weezer live opening for Blink 182. I wasn't that familiar with their music, but their set rocked and they really brought it! I've been looking up Weezer songs and have been reading about them since the show. I have to say, I've become fascinated by Rivers Cuomo! He's such an interesting guy. And this song is so sweet. "I've got your letter, you've got my song." i love that line...
When Weezer kicked asses...however...10 days to their concert, a concert that I've been waiting for 23 years in my country, Italy...waiting on you...this time I can't really wait. =w=
matzamafia 9 years late but he’ll never write songs like this ever again because when he first released pinkerton it got so much backlash and people said it was shit after he poured his heart and soul into all the songs. it made him really depressed that his second album was a commercial failure plus matt sharp leaving the band and going on hiatus
I don't know why people thumb's downed this, Rivers is a huge Nirvana fan, not exactly the same chords, but maybe the guitar tone is similar. Either way, it's a well-written tune and I love the crazy breakdown and chord changes mixed with the sweet solos. Now where the hell have those gone!? Rivers, I demand better solos and songs that aren't top 40 disposable waste
You're forgetting the fact that Rivers was more of a "douche" back then-- he was extremely controlling and uptight during the Pinkerton era (I'm not dissing him or anything, but it's true), and nowadays he just wants to have fun with his music. How can you call someone like that douche? Just because he doesn't want bring himself to dark places and write depressing songs anymore? He poured out his soul once, and people tore him to shreds for it. Be happy he made the album in the first place.
this is weezer in their prime i dont think people are ever gona get live shows like this from weezer again lucky ass fans must of been the best concert they ever went to
so funny to see the japanese girls freaking out at the start. this song encapsulates all that's good about weezer. love song, good fun, clever lyrics, self deprecating. thanks for all the fun guys!! Come back to europe sometime soon. weezer rule!!
Yo sé que comento en español y lo más seguro es que Weezer no lea mi comentario, solo quiero decir que su música es el sonido de mi adolescencia. Ustedes me ayudaron a salir adelante. Los amo Weezer desde el fondo de mi corazón
If it makes you feel any better, it seems like they didn't have a spectator mic as they do in most live shows. You can hear people screaming faintly in the background at times, and it's pretty clear that people are singing along. It's just being picked up by the stage mics :D
As someone who has written Pinkerton-esque lyrics I understand how hard it can be to sing those songs in front of other people-especially a giant crowd like that
I feel the same. It's like, yeah, in my eyes they haven't made another impact like they did on Pinkerton but I still respect so much. Even through Raditude and Hurley: albums generally hated by 90's kids like me.
I can't tell if this song is literal, like some girl in Japan actually wrote him a letter or if he just made it up for the sake of making an awsome song
this whole concert has been playing on the channel Palladia these days. It's called "Across the Sea: Weezer Live in Japan". Anyone know of any other vids of this show online?
the other reply to your comment may be true, but Pinkerton is also based on Madame Butterfly which I think also had something to do with a girl in Japan.
It's just not the same seeing scott on bass playing this instead of Matt, early weezer, the rentals and his solo worok and bass work with tegan and sara only show what a genius Matt is.
Going through my annual Pinkerton phase
Phase?
I felt this
My phase is everyday
pro tip : you can watch series at flixzone. Been using them for watching lots of of movies recently.
@Jayden Frank Definitely, have been watching on flixzone} for years myself :)
You're not across the sea anymore.

Not bad on the studio version either
The drumming on Pinkerton is fantastic, really energizes the entire thing.
The fills are quite impressive
Pinkerton had such a huge impact on my life that I would support Weezer even if they added Lil Wayne as a permanent member.
Blink-182 is dangerously close to doing that lol. But honestly Weezer is a better band anyhow...

Ah a fellow Beastie Boys & Weezer fan hell yeah
What are the chances that the girl he wrote the song about, (who lived in japan and wrote him that letter), was in that crowd that night?
the story left untold
They got married in 2005, so i can assume after 96 they dated for a while
[minty] He married the letter girl?
Matt Baillargeon yep
nope, careful with the false information. she's a completely different girl.
何年経っても色褪せることのない名曲。
One of the best songs Weezer has written. Rivers's voice from 1:49-1:55 is incredible!
Don’t you mean 0:25 - 4:31
I know I’m 8 yrs to late to reply but...
lmaoooo
You just did that time index for the lyric!
Followed by the worlds flattest sung note. Love weezer tho imma prolly get a tat one day
So personal, fuck these songs were so much better than anything that has come since, truly singing from the heart
My favorite song , and my favorite weezer song
Something about the entirely unergetic Rivers makes this perfect. I feel like it captures the feel of the song pretty well for some reason. The camera work is also pretty good
I dunno dude every time I hear "Bitches its weezer and dis weezy" I die inside and go cuddle myself in a corner blasting the blue album and pinkerton
He he
One of the best live versions I've seen yet.
Rivers' vibrato is beautiful when he sings 'birthday' in the first verse.
omg! that sticker on rivers' guitar says "white people" in thai
I thought I had been island in the sun-rolled for a second
Man they sure look absolutely THRILLED to be there!
this is in japan, which is their favourite place to tour. they actually were thrilled to be there

Having depression can do that to a person.
Clean Lemon Fresh he also said that he found Pinkerton really embarrassing lyrically because it revealed a lot of personal stuff about him
It’s like thom yorke playing Creep
god damn they are so tight right here

Why can't they write songs like this anymore?!
For my money, it's cause Rivers basically eventually resolved the internal angst that gave rise to this type of music when he was young.
