By far the best CKT tutorial i have seen and makes sense. Also i like the dry version like this. It’s a crime for a CKT noodles to be wet and soggy and doesnt have all the ingredients sticking to the noodles.
Hi there..i did tried ur recipe and it turn out very gd. Thanks for your sharing. Since i'm a muslim, i did removed all the non halal ingredients, still i can enjoy a delicious char kuew teow! 👍
I spent several months in Penang over many trips. I enjoyed every meal I had at the hawker centres. Fantastic food! Char Kway Teow is definitely one of my favorites.
I tried this recipe. It's good. Tastes like the Real Deal. The Key is spreading out the noodles onto the wok for it char nicely after adding the sauce.
Hi, I just tried this recipes without the clams, fish cakes, prawns, (replaced with sliced lobster cakes), add sliced baby corns and carrots as well as fried tofu pok as topings, i must say the seasoning is so spot on...its super delicious 😍 especially with the dry shrimps belacan n sambal paste. (By the way i replace Sugar with Honey, n the thick sweet soy sauce i mixed half with the salty one and the taste of penang char kueh tiaw is still there, just less sweet which is exactly perfect for me) This will be go to recipes for noodles from now on. Thanks Chef Lu!!!
i prefer the cockles raw, added last minute. if they are really fresh, you can get the taste of sea. it seemed a bit too dry, if you can add a bit of chicken stock with sesame oil, oyster sauce, and soy sauce, add into the frying wok after the coloring of the black soy sauce and cover the wok completely, let the gravy "enter" into the noodles, it will be even tastier and flavorful. oh and dont forget lard. that's the ultimate char kuay teow
Well, I did see some street vendor putting bean sprouts in the early stage but I do prefer to put it in a bit later on. I prefer my bean sprouts and chives not too mushy. You know this is just a personal style, you can put it earlier or later, depending on whether how you want the beansprouts and chives to be cooked.
The solid chunks were fried pork lard pieces. If you get a fatty piece of pork belly, you can cut out the fat into pieces, and fry them to get pork lard crisps. Similarly, if you render the pork belly fat, you will be able to get lots of pork lard.
I do not think that the brand of the soy sauce will make a huge different. But, anyway I will let you know my brand of soy sauce as follows. 1.abc sweet sauce 2.lee kum kee soy sauce 3.lee kum kee dark soy sauce
Hey, I live in Canada and was wondering how you made the sambal or do you have a rough idea of where I can get it? We have similar brands when it comes to Asian sauces, as I can easily get them from an Asian supermarket.
Hey Bobby, don't worry about the sambal too much. It gives a hint of spiciness in the char kway teow only. If you can't find sambal in Canada, you can take 3-4 pieces of dried chilies and blend it with a little water. Or you can omit it.
I ever eat the JB Chinese Char kway Teow with cockles and always tabao for my wife..I ask for extra kway teow from that Chinese Uncle..Twice a week i will patronage his stall opp Sungei Seget there👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻Two packets for RM8 worth it...I always give RM10 and ask him to keep the change..Quite a number of Malays also patron there..
Is the dark soy sauce the thick or thin type? I think the Lee Kum Kee one is on the saltier side and is thinner. The dark soy sauce is not caramel dark soy sauce right?
I bought ready made sambal sometimes. Or alternatively i will use a chilli paste, just to gv some spiciness to the dish. U can buy dried chillies, soak it with hot water until soften and blend it until smooth.
Dark soy sauce is thicker, and it tastes less. People use it for the dark color. Light soy sauce tastes salty, and it’s thin, light reddish brown in color and opaque.
the black sauce is actually a mix ingredients of 5 tbsp soy sauce1 tbsp sweet sauce(Kicap Manis)1.5 tbsp dark soy sauce1/2 tsp fish sauce1/2 tbsp sugar1/2 tsp saltFew dashes white pepper powderfull recipe here : luveenalee.com/char-kway-teow-stir-fried-rice-noodles/
You give me a fright with the question, i thought I forget to add the cockles 🤭. So I watch again the video. I did put it in, just before the chives. Watch again the video.😊
yes, it is. It's really delicious. I just make it again two days ago. You can make it halal version by cutting out the pork lard and chinese sausages. Believe me it's still going to be delicious!
If you live in Southeast Asia, it should be easy access to get it. But, if you don't then it's going to be tough unless you google how to make the kway teow from scratch. It's going to add more steps to it.
I want to make this so bad but I don't have majority of the ingredient. I'll most likely just toss in whatever vegetables I have and hope for the best.
Just do it, don't let the ingredients stop you. The most important is the sauce, noodles, any vegetable and meat. It may not taste like Penang Char Kway Teow but at least it tastes good. Just have fun 😁
Sometimes I buy a pre-made sambal from supermkt. or you can make it from dried chilies, red chilies and some salt. If you add some shrimp paste (belacan) will be good too.
You can buy from supermkt. but, for a quick version. Just take a handful of dried chilies, soak with hot water until soften, remove the seeds, blend the whole chili until smooth.
By far the best CKT tutorial i have seen and makes sense. Also i like the dry version like this. It’s a crime for a CKT noodles to be wet and soggy and doesnt have all the ingredients sticking to the noodles.
Thank you ! The CKT it's really that good.

I just cook this without the lard and chinese sausage(cause I’m a Muslim) & it taste so good. Thank you for sharing, god bless you :)
I will cook in a Muslim way, so that I can accommodate Muslim brothers and sisters. Filipino here.

This is the best char koay teow I've seen so far - just like the hawker did in Penang - sluurp!
it is ! 😆
This looks sooo good. I love it when it's dry. I tak suka basah! Gonna try it out. Thank you for this😘
CKT basah tu melayu je suka buat. Fake CKT namanya
Tried it… tastiest one so far
If yoy want crunchy bean sprouts you should add it in after throwing in the cockles at the end.
I love this in Singapore.. I always eat one.. never fail to amaze its taste oh..
Yeap, Never fail me too!
I tried, and it's delicious tq u resepi
Great Recipe! Made this for the first time and it tastes really good. As some have commented, I did not add salt to the sauce.
My favourite meal of all time
I tried this recipe. It's good. Tastes like the Real Deal. The Key is spreading out the noodles onto the wok for it char nicely after adding the sauce.
☺Luveena Lee TQ for your prompt reply. I appreciate it.👌
May i know which brand's wok you are using and which brand you reccomend?
Accidentally discovered your channel, don't know you can cook so well... will spend some times to watch all the videos...
Hope you enjoy! nice to meet you here.
Wow !, looks delicious & easy to make. I definately give it a try.
Yes it is 😋😋
This looks really good and alot of heat generated from the wok too. I shd go get a non stick wok now after delaying it for quite some time. Thanks!
Thank you Luveena, your guidance and cooking steps is very clear and simple, 1st attempt is successful. 👍👍👍😊
My pleasure 😊
hmm.. only change i would make it is to put the sprouts a bit later.
Char Kway Teow is the best thing I ever had in penang , very delicious
indeed, it's very delicious!
Wish I'm in Penang eating CKT 😋

I dont eat pork, what can i use to replace pork lard. And can i use normal sausage instead pf the Chinese one?
You can omit it or putting sausage is a good idea too 😉

Very nice. thanks for sharing. gonna try it tomorrow

Can i use butter instead of lard?
can. of course.
Correct me if i am wrong...shouldn't the bean sprouts and chives be added last?
Well, I did see some street vendor putting bean sprouts in the early stage but I do prefer to put it in a bit later on. I prefer my bean sprouts and chives not too mushy. You know this is just a personal style, you can put it earlier or later, depending on whether how you want the beansprouts and chives to be cooked.
Good
Nice video and easy steps to follow.
How to do sambal? Is it ok if i replace it with chili boh
You can.
Hi, I'm in Australia... just wondering how I can make the pork lard and also what the solid chunks were in the lard.
Follow this video on how to make pork lard. th-cam.com/video/4fQBo-45q0A/w-d-xo.html
Sauté it .. .. medium flame
Or if you can control the heat..
high flame ..
fire control is crucial..
The solid chunks were fried pork lard pieces. If you get a fatty piece of pork belly, you can cut out the fat into pieces, and fry them to get pork lard crisps. Similarly, if you render the pork belly fat, you will be able to get lots of pork lard.

About soy sauce, which brand taste better? Lee kum xxx or kikkoxxx. Thx
For this recipe, I guess it's doesn't matter. I think depend on your preferences. I don't use both soy sauce.
How many servings does this recipe do? Thank you!
about 2 person for us. But, maybe 3 for small eater.
@@LuveenaLee Great! Thank you so much for the info! :)

I stuck to the recipe and it looked fantastic however it did not taste like the Kway Teow that i have had in restaurants or food stalls.
Looks yummy.Thanks for sharing

Hi, Selamat datang ke channel saya. Thank you for your kind support 😊
Do we have to boil the noodle with hot water?
Nope. I didn't.
Thanks for sharing. I tried and not that success but still taste good. Maybe because I’m using electric stove though. Hehe
Glad you like it!
Great

I just use lee kum kee dark soy sauce.
Yum! Fed the whole family with batches of this tonight - sans chinese sausage.
I'm glad u like it! Because I'd always cook this for my family.
Mantap 👍
what sambal do you add?

mr zul, u cannot eat it.......it's contain pork lard....
You can change pork lard to shallot oil ( minyak bwg merah) or minyak biasa jelah. Tak semestinya kena pork lard. 😉
Thanks Luveena for replying
I dont use lard, just follow the steps and result is still awesome. :)
thank you for the video!!
what brand of fish sauce you use?
Tiparos.
ok bro
Yummy!
many ingredients in the video can be omitted , like sausage, cockle,
yes you can. But, it won't be authentic char kway teow (Malaysian Food) ^.^
I think that sausage gives to noodles specific taste. If you tried it you know what I mean.
Yum!
Good tutorial but when I made it , it was way too salty ! Just a warning cut down on the salt In the sauce
Hi Ben, if it's too salty for you, you can reduce the mixing sauce from 2.50 tbsp to 1.50 tbsp or up to your liking.
I don't know where kway teow is for sale
If you live in Southeast Asia, it should be easy access to get it. But, if you don't then it's going to be tough unless you google how to make the kway teow from scratch. It's going to add more steps to it.
