Dakota was amazing in this series and really took hold of season 2. Honestly she deserved an Academy Award for her work. But in a show that has polish all over it you can become just another highlight. The little girl in Cat In The Hat has become an incredible adult actor.
beautiful designs and execution-only change I would say is that a woman would never ever wear a corset without a shift underneath. The order goes shift, corset, corset cover, dress (with hip padding or bustle depending on the year/occasion/dress). In a lot of Hollywood productions, corsets are seen in a very sexualized way but they were literally just a wide belt of sorts or a more structured bra. Tightlacing is, for the most part, a myth, perpetuated by the few famous women who did. However, its good to note that in certain eras men wore corsets and supportive garments as well.
i noticed the pants skirt in the one installment, but couldn't find a reference to it until now. it was an interesting detail in the way this character would choose to dress.
This is beautiful, but what I'd like to know is who's decision was it to put her in a corset without a shift underneath? Corsets were always worn with something underneath them because firstly, the corsets do not feel good against the skin, and second, the shift kept sweat off the corsets which meant they didn't have to be cleaned as often. The only reason people wouldn't wear corsets at the time was if you were wearing the corset for titillation rather than support and form. For the love of accuracy and comfort, someone please get Dakota a shift.
@@dreamsteddybearsmaster yeah, no. This is a common historical show mistake, they do not get the costumes or underwear right. Corsets never "oppressed women", they functioned as bras and supports. So this is like saying bras oppress women, when women actually want to wear them. They were as normal as bras are to this day. I hated when they made John say something about her being fake and "corseted up". Like bruh.
The Alienist was always one of my favorite books. I can imagine it's an awesome show with these wonderful actors. Will definitely look into it even though I'm not a tv watcher
Sarah's costumes are fabulous indeed ! During the whole show I was wondering who the designer(s) were. The Dutch designer couple Victor & Rolf would be envious I guess.
I loved this show and gotta say one of the principal appeals was the costumes that i found absolutely fantastic, the men where so stylish in those days and i gotta say Sarah outfits really stood out. Exceptional show and I’m watching season 2 now, i hope they make a season 3....
I think Sarah's' clothes suits her personality very well, I love the clothes she wears that have a bit a masculinity in them especially when she wears a tie with a dress.......gorgeous!
Gosh she is so beautiful!! She’s wearing like no makeup but still looks like a queen

I think she was already a brilliant actor when she was a little girl.
Seeing the lady’s maid literally PEEL the corset off Dakota gave me nightmares. You don’t wear a corset on bare skin 😭
YOU shouldnt wear corset if YOU want to be comfortabel. Yes I have worn corset
@@-_YouMayFind_- but if you want to have bruises and hurting everything, then go for corset without under layer
One of the best show ever created. Period.

I have worn a corset but it´s never comfortable. People worn it because it was fashionable to have certain body forms not because it was comfortable.
@@-_YouMayFind_- Working class women also wore ir. It helped to protect their backbone while lifting heavy stuff.

THIS
It drove me insane seeing it, i could barely focus on the story i was so livid
Maybe to symbolise the restraint she felt as a woman

Neither does it feel good to have it with a shirt underneath. I rather don´t wear a corset at all

it's worth it just for the costumes.. and the actors are sterling!

Tiffany Trump nailed this role! I had no idea she could act at all.
How doesn't the designer know that women wear a shift underneath the corset?!
