    Thats a 55 amp 10Si stator it should be safe around 700 watts. I built those Alternators for years. And the Stator is laminated to reduce eddy currents they are a special silicone steel they are harder to make than you think. And wind speed shouldn't hurt it those spin around 10KRPM on a car you just need to limit the current with an MPPT charge controller

    Alan. I appreciate your mind. A true mechanical engineer at heart. Before I was even a teenager I would take apart and try to understand/test armatures and coils. Just didn't have a dad around to guide me. I landed in Network Engineering but you definitely make me miss the hands on electrical/mechanical work.

    You could chuck the pieces that need 17 mm holes in a lathe chuck and drill smaller and bore them exactly.

    I worked at a junk yard for a year removing parts, testing, cleaning etc. for resale. I pulled alternators from OLD Dodge trucks (1950-60’s) that were monsters! You likely have one in your truck ‘ stash’ at the mountain fortress! Yes, I am a female but can still be a “motor head” !😂

    ...I haven't been inside one of those units since I had to change a brush to get home from northern Quebec and scavenged, ground, filed, and fitted the right re-sized brush successfully...the guy laughed at me but when my fix worked he let me have everything, including his shop supplies for free!...yip, I brought him in a 24 before hitting the road...nowhere near as ambitious a project as yours is, our Al...but it was also deep winter when I lucked out finding that willing shopowner, his dissimilar but tweakable alternator and my slick fix!...next!...

      Yep. Rerun. Of course I came here to see if anyone else was feeling deja vu like the sheep I’ve obviously become. But then I went back to his videos and saw he put out a part 2 a few weeks ago where he went to fortress to pick up some parts. I still can’t figure out if we’ve seen part of this video or all of it. Maybe part 2 was out of order. It’s too early here for me to obviously think clearly. Lol

You must lighten your load of all the earthly burden (money) before the journey can begin. I will take on that burden and destroy all that slows us down, in a secret ritual to be attended by only me. Please, please act fast and send me all of your burdens (money) so that our sacred March can begin.

    EDIT: they make a balancing tool for lawnmowers blades. All you do is set the blade on it and look for the heavy side and then grind off a little to lighten the blade to balance. The same for your blades. Just a basic balance of the three blades.

    If you can figure out a way to switch on the additional alternator when the fan reaches a designated rpm that would eliminate the constant "need to be there" monitoring. A wheel hub with a speed sensor off a wrecked car maybe. You have more experience with this stuff, just an idea.

  • @psychedelicgem
    @psychedelicgem ปีที่แล้ว

    So cool wizard. Maybe mount an outrigger bearing to take all the loads if these alternator bearings blow up. Lots of extra work but might be easier than modifying the alternators casing. Just gotta bolt a shaft to the opposite side of the fans center circular hub plate as the alternator is and mount a pillow block or flanged block tapered roller bearing pack in front. The smallest do 6krpm but they are way bigger 1.25in minimum frim memory. They are off the shelf and self aligning and only require a plasma cut circular plate the size of your hub to mount so no machining except for a lathe and drill and tap to make the outrigger shaft and thrust washer. You'd need a suport front and back of the fan on your building.

    I think I said this but you should have a separate jack shaft for the blades. and just a belt or chain to drive the Alt. the bearings should last a lot longer then.

    • @tojoyou
      @tojoyou ปีที่แล้ว +1

      also with a JS st up you can change the gear ratio so it won't over or under the speed you want

    • @xiolablue5024
      @xiolablue5024 ปีที่แล้ว

      So a pulley on the alternator with bearing/blades powered by a belt?

    • @tojoyou
      @tojoyou ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xiolablue5024 right a set of pillow block bearings (heavier and stronger) with a shaft with the blades at one end and the pully or sprocket at the other end of the jack shaft (jack shaft is a separately driven shaft) to drive the alt. which would be mounted off to the side. this will help in a few ways. the jack shaft bearings will take the much larger load forces from the blades saving the much smaller and light bearings in the alt. also like I said you can change the pullies between the alt and the shaft to get the desired gear ratio. This will make it easy to set up then change later in minutes if you guess wrong.

    • @tojoyou
      @tojoyou ปีที่แล้ว

      also you can make the JS as long as you want (longer makes stronger) the alt has a very short shaft putting even more strain if you put the blades directly on the alt

    While the blades are mounted in the hub and there’s the small centre hole still could it be sat on top of a vertical spike in effect say on the make up table and then check how true it rotates horizontally… if a blade is a bit heavier it’ll dip a bit… so could fettle the blades until it spins on the spike nice and true horizontal level

    Geez Al, stick it in the lathe, drill to 15 or 16 mm then use a small boring bar to machine that center out to your 17 mm. You'll KNOW it's dead center that way too. As for balance, just stick the assembled blades and hub on a smooth free turning bearing and see which rolls to the bottom.
    I am slightly wary of heavy steel blades mounted to lighter aluminium though, probably unnecessarily though since I always over-engineer things by a huge margin.
