It's good to see harry review a good episode from the Smith era rather than ones that he thinks are garbage (although I'm still salty over his review of Vincent and the doctor)
The fact this bad episode is considered one of the best of The Moffat era just shows how bad The Show has gotten with Moffat. Put this episode in The RTD era and it would have been one of the worst
The genius of this script for me is how moffat made this *new* doctor somebody's doctor. The fact Amy grew up with this Doctor and made stories about him that seemingly most people in Ledworth knew about further cements the fact to us, the viewer, that this is indeed *the* Doctor. It was meta but didn't subtract from the story at all, only adding to it. If you take your mind back to the announcement of Matt Smith, people were not on board at all. Having this brand new actor be someone's childhood Doctor is brilliant. Moffat did this sort of meta bedding in period in capaldis first episode too and it works wonderfully there also
its infact even more clever. There is 2 diffrent Amy/Amelias´s in this episode. AND!! The answer to the biggest question of them all is hiding in plain sight; When is a duck pond with no ducks a duck pond? (Answer; when you remember the ducks from a diffrent life/Whoniverse) AND it is even more clever then that. Cause; the Wedding dress is for a wedding with a man that have never existed and that Amelia only remember from her other life in the other Whoniverse (due to exposure to the timevortex behind her wall) (Just as Clara, Madame Pompadore/Lady Penforte to name a few also remembered lives (days) they had never had...) AND its even more clever then that. Cause the Wedding dress is a signs that the TARDIS is jumping between Whoniversis (in that episode) (just as it "jumped" when Donna twice was a bride) just as it engagement ring signal jumps between whoniversis and lastly the Williams wedding..(every single time the TARDIS jumps between Whoniversis in that episodes...Just as the INTRO shows us...Hidden in plain sight.
It was magical, like a dark fairy tale a child had an imaginary friend who fought against what was eating on her life. Rather than having a relationship with their companion he was a dream that she was learning to forget.

@@EnfysHolmes12 Yeah but they were quite clearly shooting in a house in this case. The script would have been (and probably was) altered to match the shooting location. The amount of doors The Doctor counts is correct, so Harry is the only one to have miscounted.
I love all of Matt Smith's episodes. He is by far my favourite doctor, and was the one I was introduced into doctor who with. I get why everyone prefers tennant, but mat Smith has a special place for me
This is the single best introduction. And this isn’t a bias as Matt Smith is my least favourite doctor. This is just astounding episode and to introduce someone to doctor who. They should watch blink. This and the mummy of orient express.
Please tell me how this is The Best introduction? This episode was when The show went downhill. And it’s worst considering the previous episode was the brilliant End Of Time
There are indeed 5 real doors and P-0's door on this floor. Two doors, one either side of the radiator where the doctor is, and three doors at the end of the landing (seen at 6:33) with P0's door adding a 4th and taking it up to 6
First episode of Who I ever saw (they marketed this HEAVILY in the US for the first time, figured I'd see what it was all about) and loved the Smith era because of it. Genius intro and still my favorite doc.
5:55 we can see when 11 is sitting at the end of the corridor by the radiator that there's one to the right and one to the left of him. 2 doors so far. we know there are two doors (one of which has the perception filter) in the wall opposite the stairs coming up from the ground floor, and one door in the right wall. an extra three, total of 5. in the scene with 11 running up the stairs there is possibly a sixth door to the right of the camera, but we never see this section of wall. I think there is likely one here as there is also one in that wall on the other side of the stairs in the aforementioned scene when 11 is sitting by the radiator, and also because this would be a logical explanation for the writers saying there are six - there *are* six.
I personally love this episode. Great season opener, great Doctor introduction and great introduction for Moffat as show runner. I was worried Harry was gonna hate this episode but now I’m looking forward to seeing his future reviews on stuff like victory of the Daleks, the angel 2 parter, Silurian 2 parter and the pandorica opens.
But there are six doors... One to Amy's left (the Doctor's right), one to her right and his left. One on her left on the same wall as the first door mentioned, just a little further back. The perception filter door jammed between that one and on the same wall as another door. That last door I mentioned is opposite the staircase, and to the side of that, nearly opposite the third door I mentioned, is door number six. You can see the sixth door at 6:32
This is genuinely my favourite episode of Doctor Who, beginning with my favourite Doctor. This is what introduced me to my favourite series. It was the first Doctor Who story I'd ever seen, er, read. I have vivid memories of being in school and picking out a comic adaptation of this. Well... I say adaptation... It was just stills from the episode with added speech balloons and captions. I love it.
This episode was my childhood! When I watched it again recently and I found it sad to see the remnants of David Tennant's 10th Doctor with his TARDIS, Sonic and suit still there in the moffat era even after all that's happened like Journey's end Parting of the ways...
I can't wait for the review of the Rings of Akhatan. I'm excited to see Harry get really mad at one of the greatest speeches in Doctor Who getting undermined by Clara's leaf
I have never realised about the TARDIS Key popping into Smith's new Jacket that he just picked up from the hospital dressing room. I suppose she materialized the key into his pocket as you can hear the TARDIS whoosh; I always thought it was like a microwave ding but you've just made me realize it after all these years. I've recently heard David Tennant was originally semi planned for Series 5, with Matt Smith appearing at the beginning and after 5 minutes, David Tennant would appear in The Tardis while still regenerating from the radiation for the entire series with Amy as his companion. I still wonder how that would've worked out. I'm looking forward to your future reviews, Harry.
@@PwnZombie www.doctorwho.tv/news/?article=what-would-doctor-who-series-5-have-looked-like-if-david-tennant-had-stayed-on#_ Kinda got it wrong, it wasn't Matt Smith who'd crash land. It would be Regenerating David Tennant's Doctor from the future. And then after the 5 minutes, the Series 4 stay on David Tennant Doctor from our perception would come out to see future Amy. Sorry about that wrong recall.
There is a 6th door to the left of the stairs, it just cant be seen in a lot of the shots from the angles and because it is indented a little. You can see it when prisoner zero comes out of the room as the man and dog.
This was interesting. I started the episode wanting to slap him ((11 is my favorite doctor)) and by the end of it I wanted to hug him. Can’t wait to see his reaction to my favorite companion, RORY
I gotta say, the Doctor's theme for Matt Smith is freakin' outstanding. That subtle intro that signals the Doctor about to do something all...Doctor-y, gets me every time. And his monologue to the Atraxes, finishing with the Doctor's faces, and him stopping through David Tennant's face? BOOM. I was worried about a new doctor, given how much I had come to love David Tennant's portrayal, but that intro to Matt Smith sat me down and made me listen.
there are actually 6 doors on the floor. in most of the shots the door on our left (seen when facing Amy) gets cut off but there are 4 doors on that side and 2 on The Doctor's.
Series 5 was MY favourite Matt Smith series. I can always remember how excited I got watching this episode - I literally felt like we were in a brand new and refreshing era.

just rewatched this episode and there are six doors, you see the extra one in a close up shot of prisoner zero just next to the one on the far left, it's the only time you see it.
An idea: What if the next incarnation of the Doctor was socially shy and completely nervous and a complete introvert like a lot of the people who exist are. The companion they chose has to encourage the Doctor to do things and has to like essentially save the day for the Doctor.
The Eleventh Hour is one of my favourite episodes from the revived series because it was Karen Gillan's debut as Amy Pond and it reminded me so much of The Girl in the Fireplace from Series 2.
Throwing away the food could’ve been done a lot faster and I thought there was a little too much filler in this episode, but this episode is pretty decent for Moffat.
There is everything you said in your video and there is the one line that always sends shivers down my spine. "Hello, I'm the Doctor.......basically....Run" these words sent an alien invasionfleet for whom it'd have been a walk in the park to incinerate the whole planet running away in fear. It again just shows the Power that even just his name has.(ofc not the acutal one)
Honestly the Atraxi taking both The Doctor and Prisoner Zero would have been a great moment. Especially if they made it so we didn't know which is the real one either.

@@EnfysHolmes12 Yeah but they were quite clearly shooting in a house in this case. The script would have been (and probably was) altered to match the shooting location. The amount of doors The Doctor counts is correct, so Harry is the only one to have miscounted.
Yeah I did a double take on the count, I think it was a cock up on Harry’s part.
6:33 You can see a 6th room. It's just not visible in most shots
the tardis was on its side during the story ‘the ice warriors’
the series 5 tardis interior is my favourite ever. I have the most nostalgia with and it's fucking beautiful!
It looks too wacky in my opinion. My favourite tardis interior is 12's.
Mine is the 9/10 one. I can see why people like 11's first one, but I've never been a fan.
Last time I was this early Chibnal wanted to cancel the Christmas special 😳
My favourite Doctor, tardis, screwdriver, doctors first episode and TH-cam channel all in one
I love all of Matt Smith's episodes. He is by far my favourite doctor, and was the one I was introduced into doctor who with. I get why everyone prefers tennant, but mat Smith has a special place for me
7:04 That old lady was a friend of my granny.
This is the single best introduction. And this isn’t a bias as Matt Smith is my least favourite doctor. This is just astounding episode and to introduce someone to doctor who. They should watch blink. This and the mummy of orient express.
Elliott Du Prat either this or Power of the Daleks
Please tell me how this is The Best introduction? This episode was when The show went downhill. And it’s worst considering the previous episode was the brilliant End Of Time

Congrats on 100K, Harry!!
Think I was around before 1K.
5:55
we can see when 11 is sitting at the end of the corridor by the radiator that there's one to the right and one to the left of him.
I love it.
😂
@JustSomeNoName no
This episode was my childhood!
When I watched it again recently and I found it sad to see the remnants of David Tennant's 10th Doctor with his TARDIS, Sonic and suit still there in the moffat era even after all that's happened like Journey's end Parting of the ways...
Im so happy harry loved the first matt smith episode, I hope this continues
Source?
@@PwnZombie www.doctorwho.tv/news/?article=what-would-doctor-who-series-5-have-looked-like-if-david-tennant-had-stayed-on#_
Kinda got it wrong, it wasn't Matt Smith who'd crash land. It would be Regenerating David Tennant's Doctor from the future. And then after the 5 minutes, the Series 4 stay on David Tennant Doctor from our perception would come out to see future Amy.
Sorry about that wrong recall.
Wow the Season 5 review so soon huh? That just made my day, thanks Harry!
There is a 6th door to the left of the stairs, it just cant be seen in a lot of the shots from the angles and because it is indented a little. You can see it when prisoner zero comes out of the room as the man and dog.
I’m still eagerly waiting for the titles ranking
It is criminal that you dont have at least 500k subs! Love the content man
This was interesting. I started the episode wanting to slap him ((11 is my favorite doctor)) and by the end of it I wanted to hug him. Can’t wait to see his reaction to my favorite companion, RORY
The companion that became a Timelord =) (in a diffrent show)...
Fun fact; there is a companion that acctully became a Timelord (in the new series)
I think my favourite thing about the Moffat era is how colourful the setpieces are and it stands out especially in the first episode.
there are actually 6 doors on the floor. in most of the shots the door on our left (seen when facing Amy) gets cut off but there are 4 doors on that side and 2 on The Doctor's.
That " hello, im the doctor " speech has gotta be my fave moment from the revival, fight me
Series 5 was MY favourite Matt Smith series. I can always remember how excited I got watching this episode - I literally felt like we were in a brand new and refreshing era.
God I am so happy you are finally doing eleven the most impactful and dark doctors in my opinion with the best written series arches and stories with great humour! I live for him
Ah yes the Moffat era, time to be frustrated and gnashing my teeth that Moffat forgot about River after Series 6
13:53 another “How the f**k have I never noticed that before” moment.
The TARDIS has been on its side in Time-flight and one other I can't be bothered to remember
"The question will be asked, and the silence will fall"...still got goose bumps when I even say that words
Used to hate prisoner zero, it was terrifying. Same with the smilers.
Honestly I love this episode so much and I always will. The perfect introduction to my favourite era, doctor and companion I mean god damn moffat can write a good script when he wants to.
a harrys haunted house video for my birthday, the best gift yet
Good for you Slabhead
This is probably the greatest Doctor debut episode ever. It just gets everything right.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
And thus, MY Who era began. And what a era to be introduced to!
You have not taste if this is your era and if I was introduced to this era I would have stopped watching after this episode
JustSomeRandomGuy Online mate...we’ve discussed this before...your a troll/twat now jog along and try not to start arguments with random people for no reason. Go back and watch RTD who like a cultist which by the sounds of it you really do
WackyWAA ! Oh I would proudly rewatch The RTD era any day of the week and to call me a troll because I have the same opinion of 99% of the fan base just shows how deluded you are
JustSomeRandomGuy Online yeah bro 99% of the fanbase...that’s why everyone you try to argue with disagrees with you...oh and your amazing vids that get no likes...sounds like 99% of the fanbase tbh
WackyWAA ! The viewing figures say otherwise since this is when a lot of people stopped watching and I’m old enough to remember all the criticism this series was getting from Moving weeping Angels to The Rainbow Daleks and how The finale was a confusing mess
just rewatched this episode and there are six doors, you see the extra one in a close up shot of prisoner zero just next to the one on the far left, it's the only time you see it.
The Smith Era was amazing
No it was not!
@@justsomerandomguyonline1144 I liked it
DG46 same
@@justsomerandomguyonline1144 oh its this guy. He literally hates on everything past Tennet. Personally, I found season 5, 6, and 7 to be pretty good.
S5 was great. S6 and S7 both started out with a lot of promise but went downhill in their second halves, more so with S7 which got SO boring.
An idea: What if the next incarnation of the Doctor was socially shy and completely nervous and a complete introvert like a lot of the people who exist are. The companion they chose has to encourage the Doctor to do things and has to like essentially save the day for the Doctor.
11th hour is probably my favourite intro episode
The Eleventh Hour is one of my favourite episodes from the revived series because it was Karen Gillan's debut as Amy Pond and it reminded me so much of The Girl in the Fireplace from Series 2.
Congratulations on 100k!!
Throwing away the food could’ve been done a lot faster and I thought there was a little too much filler in this episode, but this episode is pretty decent for Moffat.
I had an action figure of prisnor zero where the gross bit they hanged from the ceiling was a big splodge of transparent jelly
I love that Amy Pond does more police work in one episode as a kissogram than Yaz does in two seasons as an actual police officer
The era that opened up Doctor Who across the Atlantic, and across the world
Shame it’s ending was so disappointing
fun fact the child actor of Amelia is actually Karen Gillan's (Amy in the show) real-life cousin. She pushed to have her cousin to be in the show.
I'd probably be a little annoyed about that if she didn't do such a good job.
What do you mean, growing out of Doctor Who? Is such a thing even possible?
Yes
No
Honestly the Atraxi taking both The Doctor and Prisoner Zero would have been a great moment. Especially if they made it so we didn't know which is the real one either.
THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY. I adore your reviews but god dammit as a stereotypical younger American Matt Smith was my first doctor as I found rhe show on Netflix but skipped over most or 9 and all of 10 since 11 was the currently airing doctor. Ive wanted him for SO long even if i was scared. Cause you have made me realize things I never would have about the show and made me appreciate it alot more by bringing the fangirlness down to realistic view of the show and its budget.
This was my first episode of the show and it made me fall in love with it, it's so good and this season is still my favorite.
This is a terrible episode and The start of The Show going downhill and Series 5 is absolutely terrible.
JustSomeRandomGuy Online series is my favourite series of doctor who
This episode is 11 years old this year! The first episode of the 11th doctor and its called the 11th hour
11 isn't my favourite doctor, but this has to be the best first episode of a doctor. There are many great details and some callbacks, like him stealing his clothes from a hospital, like 3 did in his first episode.
aha yes, I've been waiting for you to get to Smith! this is when I started watching as a kid, I'm excited to see you review my favourites
I love the 11th doctor and looking back at he’s stuff I still love his role as doctor who
All he did when he became 12 was put up some furniture. The TARDIS itself had already changed during Matt's run.
