Yes we do have poxy swirl flaps over in in the jolly old UK. I ripped them out and plugged them on my Fiat/Saab/Vauxhall Z19DTH with no issues. I might doo the same on my R350 CDI when the time comes. But leave something that moves to indicate to the sensor that something moved. I also fitted a partial EGR restrictor, that meant no gummed up EGR (and no warning) as long as the car had a good run now and again. I don't like certain aspects of this engine - cams retained by the covers? but the bottom end appears to be bullet proof (minus early year problems). 18,000 Mile service interval is the killer though 😞
I use a long wire brush on my drill a vacuum and brake cleaner. And compressed air ….. shit gets everywhere….. The most important thing is to get the carbon out of the port if it drops in between the valve and the seat it will possibly not allow the valve to shut correctly. This requires moving the engine to make sure the valves are completely closed while doing this procedure.
A company by the name of Green Diesel Engineering use to make a delete program for the MB diesels 07-08…for off road applications. But as far as I’m aware, they have discontinued do this due to E.P.A. pressures.
Yeah that’s the way I understand it to the EPA is really getting down on these people. I don’t know what the problem is if they’re using it for Offroad…
Good morning Sir I'm good hope you are good as well I need both sides of the these intake manifold for the sprinter van 3.0L v6 with all the gaskets sets I'm in South Africa Thanks
Actually I’m working on a manual bypass for that that tricks the computer into thinking that the rails are still there. Unfortunately though it’s going to be a mechanical bypass meaning that the only way to do it is with the Intakes out. The positive thing is I will be able to remove the flaps but keep the arms so the computer thinks that the flaps are working they should increase fuel mileage and power. Without reprogramming the ECM which will cause it to not pass federal emissions. I am 90% sure what I’m doing right now is going to work and I’m certainly making a video of it hopefully that’s up within the next month. Here’s a link to my resistor trick it doesn’t work if you have rail sensors though…. At least not for very long. th-cam.com/video/LtMibd1bHs0/w-d-xo.html
The point is delete them physically, or if you change them for new, that same day use the resistor mod to keep them open forever. The impact on emission by these is net ZERO compared to a egr or dpf delete.
The resistor Trick does not work all the time. That’s why I delete them. But yes, it does have a net zero effect on a missions because you’re not changing anything with the missions. The vehicle is still running properly but you’re no longer having the possibility of them seizing up and going into limp mode. The resistor is a short term workaround solution.
Depends on what you mean by the job, removing the intakes and doing the deletion and putting them back together? Or if you just send me the Intakes You can message me directly through Facebook, clays AC and Auto Repair I’ll answer it pretty quickly. If you respond back to this thread more than likely, I won’t see it. You can also email me Thenewclayway@gmail.com
Next time though make sure you send them to me so I can delete them and you don’t ever have to do them again and it’s about half the price of new ones plus I clean the shit out of them and you won’t even know that they were ever installed looking at them from the inside
I definitely have a phone but I’m sure if you think about it for a moment if I was the post my phone number publicly when half 1 million people watch my show every month I don’t think I could get any work done. I’ll be happy to help you but you’ll have to reach out to me somehow. Either by email or on my Facebook clays AC and Auto Repair

My 2011 sprinter has no swirl valves or actuator and I live in Europe, so you're right about that !
Ya ok ……
Always informative!! Thanks Clay!!
Should I make preventative action (use TerraClean , remove and clean the intake) if I have no issue (60k Miles) thanks
When you do a job to clean these, do you typically clean the head intake ports as well? If you do, what methods do you use on the heads?
I use a long wire brush on my drill a vacuum and brake cleaner.

@@sharpcarco any tips to making sure the valves are closed with the valve covers on? Is there a good timing mark to reference or something like that?
No you have to look down there you will see the valves open. Look at all them before you begin. You will be able to tell the difference

@@sharpcarco ...Okay thats fine ...I fixed the intake arms upgraded to metal ones
can the engine run without those flaps ,by taking them right out and get ride of the rails
like to cut the rods out and run it straight in my GL
You cannot do it that way it will always be in limp mode
is there any way around it
