Opeth's new full time drummer played his first show in Sept 2022--and he's pretty great? Based on the limited videos I've seen, he has a closer feel to Lopez, but maintains a very strong technical ability and pocket.

      Unfortunately there’s not many that can touch Axe. That was a beast of a player. I agree, they need a more nuanced player than this. Musicianship is cornerstone of this band so it’s imperative they have a player that meets that and not a simpleton.

    • @kirvergalarragacastro1448
      @kirvergalarragacastro1448 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@biorythmicshifter It doesn’t necessarily means that a new drummer should be “as” or “better” than Axe. It’s more of being a drummer with an actual personality, and offering something fresh to their sound. There’s many musicianswho could do that.
      López and Axe aren’t alike, both have their own groove, which is completely fine, bc they add their personal touch to the band.
      This guy offers absolutely nothing. He just sticks to the rhythm. No special fills, no special nothing. That’s why some live songs feels so soulless with him. And he already had enough time to practice.
      Sorceress it’s the perfect example. It’s just awful with him.

      @@1Vurgas1 actually it very likely is due to age, and a change in technique after Deliverance (there’s less diaphragm support as you get older, meaning less power, and since he switched to false cord he can’t transition to his highs as easily; the latter also has to do with age because going from low to high takes more breath/diaphragm support).

    Yeah Mikael...you wrote that s###.. The thing is that you Didnt wrote the other musicians performances, influences, and ideas , like the keyboards and drums of it. Thats why when you listen to this version against the Lamentations versions, it is a bit like you called it...S###. I am glad you are playing these older tunes...wich are far better tunes and Real Prog, than the new Wannabe prog band act opeth became...and this comes from a guy that listens to Prog Rock 2/3rds of his life. Perhaps its time to make ammends and call Lopez back to the drumms.. this guy has no Upbeat or ghost Strokes that makes songs like these Bounce...its just sounds down and square.

      ha Southamerican losers. Opeth is pretty much a Michael åkerfeldt solo project. He write all the music himself and have had some help later on with producing and addings. Lopez is good but its not like any other pro drummer couldn have played on it. Noone would have heard about lopez without opeth. Though could be cool to have him back. Opeth did like 7-8 metal albums and can do whatever they fucking want to. The new stuff is good also, if your brain works.
