owning a house comes with responsibilities. even if you own it free and clear, what you do or fail to do can affect your neighbors.
we don't know the full story of the widow. if she wasn't able to get help with the lawn, she lacks the social network to support her with maintaining the house.
for her neighbors, she should leave before she devalues the neighborhood.
for herself, selling her house before it degrades gets her the largest payout for the equity in her house, so she can roll that into a retirement community.

I'm not a beer fan myself, but I know how to be polite. If I were in that situation, I would have drank the one mug slowly while claiming that I promised not to come home too drunk. If that was too much, maybe he could have politely asked if he could bring his own because it hold sentimental value. Maybe he could have claimed he and his father would bond over it, and he prefers it over other beer because it reminds him of the good old days.

I'm not a drinker at all, if asked I even explain it: I simply don't like the taste, that's it, no big speech or lecture. Everyone that knows me knows alcohol is what I don't do. So it would be rude to give me a beer. But I'm polite enough I'd at least drink it and finish it, then explain off to the side quietly. There's simply no reason to cause issues like that.

Whenever I come across someone who says they don't like "King of the Hill," I do a little digging and I invariably figure out that they're basing their opinion off KotH later seasons.
I honestly can't blame them either. The later writers of KotH were writing at the same level as those Boomer memes you see on your aunt's Facebook page. The writers undid so many years of hard earned character development for Hank. Their focus turned toward de-evolving Hank from a character to a caricature.
They reinforced the tired southern stereotypes that the show so cleverly worked to satirize. They won Emmys for it ffs

    • @Amins88
      @Amins88 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

I've heard people unironically say they like King of the Hill because "it makes Conservatives look bad". Makes me think they're getting their opinion exclusively from memes and/or later episodes, because that show was very much written from from a Conservative perspective and quite frequently criticized extreme Liberal politics (which are now just standard Liberal politics). They just knew enough to also have the self awareness to critique their own values, too.

@@powerist209 Thank you! I tried watching that show and it just felt mean-spirited and every character only existed to meet a stereotype. It was clearly a show about Liberals written from a Conservative perspective. Whether I agree with those sentiments is irrelevant, it's not what I want to see from a character-based show. It was incredibly frustrating to watch the main family repeatedly get burned by their flawed and hypocritical values and learn nothing from it.

@@Amins88 You and those people are half-right: the show criticized rightist policies... whilst making a social justice warrior strawman like this parody copypasta:
A liberal muslim homosexual ACLU lawyer professor and abortion doctor was teaching a class on Karl Marx, known atheist
"Before the class begins, you must get on your knees and worship Marx and accept that he was the most highly-evolved being the world has ever known, even greater than Jesus Christ!"
At this moment, a brave, patriotic, pro-life Navy SEAL champion who had served 1500 tours of duty and understood the necessity of war and fully supported all military decision made by the United States stood up and held up a rock.
"How old is this rock, pinhead?"
The arrogant professor smirked quite Jewishly and smugly replied "4.6 billion years, you stupid Christian"
"Wrong. It's been 5,000 years since God created it. If it was 4.6 billion years old and evolution, as you say, is real... then it should be an animal now"
The professor was visibly shaken, and dropped his chalk and copy of Origin of the Species. He stormed out of the room crying those liberal crocodile tears. The same tears liberals cry for the "poor" (who today live in such luxury that most own refrigerators) when they jealously try to claw justly earned wealth from the deserving job creators. There is no doubt that at this point our professor, DeShawn Washington, wished he had pulled himself up by his bootstraps and become more than a sophist liberal professor. He wished so much that he had a gun to shoot himself from embarrassment, but he himself had petitioned against them!
The students applauded and all registered Republican that day and accepted Jesus as their lord and savior. An eagle named "Small Government" flew into the room and perched atop the American Flag and shed a tear on the chalk. The pledge of allegiance was read several times, and God himself showed up and enacted a flat tax rate across the country.
The professor lost his tenure and was fired the next day. He died of the gay plague AIDS and was tossed into the lake of fire for all eternity.

That is to say, the purity of the syrup they were gifted is probably higher than the syrup they brought. Part of this can depend on the color (grade) of the syrup, too.
My assumption is that peggy got some cheapo syrup and called it "vermont maple syrup", but if it's the real deal, the Canadians were being incredibly rude. The syrup rivalry is real, but its more of a friendly rivalry between neighbors. You don't reject a gift of syrup the same way you don't reject another mans BBQ. The foreground and background characters are presumably decent people: as "Springfield" is just a generic-sounding name for a middle-sized American city, I would think it is not one city, but just the 1), entire suburban conglomerated area in Inland and Midland America AND 2), the North Star Republic which borders it (the latter containing Tacoma I believe).

Boomhauer meets a French woman, despite fewer than 4% of Ontario's population being of French descent. Though the Ontario-Quebec border has higher concentrations of French people, Boomhauer spends the summer in Guelph, which is closer to the US than any part of Quebec.

I remember Mr Enter's review of this episode being made fun of because he decries the episode as racist because he thinks Canadians are a race of people. Not the First Nation people of Canada. Canadians are a race of people different from Africans, Asians and Europeans.

They are a race of people. There are three main types of "race" - race as a broad category (black/white/asian) or race as a nation/group of nations (French/English/etc), or race as in species (cabbage, per Darwin). They're all correct.

I'm from St. Louis and love hockey. I always try to go when the Blues play a Canadian team. Mostly because the Canadian fans are so passionate. And as a pro wrestling fan a lot of my favorite wrestlers are Canadian. Bret Hart, Edge, Gail Kim, etc. A good friend of mine actually trained in Stu Hart's legendary Dungeon.
