Creativity is never tidy! Many minimalists are anal people obsessed with empty spaces & cleaning, cleaning, cleaning. Give me my creativity, decor, & collections. They warm my soul!
I think this is the problem for most people and why they're not buying anything in craft fairs anymore. I keep hearing this from people when I do a craft fair that they already have too much stuff or they have no wall space or they have nowhere to put anything. Or that they're trying to downsize. And so people aren't buying things. Not to mention the fact that we are in a recession with through the roof inflation and headed toward a depression. I just don't see the thrifting for resale and arts and crafts as a sustainable business anymore.
I'm a little sad you're not going back to your home in Louisiana. To your awesome shop space. Your tools. I miss your 20+ minute DIY videos. Those are why I started watching you. I realize time moves on & you have a small business to nurture, but I'm not so into the thrifting sales. I will say this tho...whoever buys the homes that you have redecorated & move out of, is definitely getting a beautiful home! Wishing you much success in your future endeavors! 🌻
Julie I feel your pain. I’m trying to get rid of things and get my mind more clear. When I was younger I could move quicker and keep it moving in and out a little better. I can’t keep up anymore and everywhere I look is stuff even though it’s a treasure in my mind. It’s a BIG source of contention with my husband who hates stuff. I will keep you in my prayers as you move forward in thinning out.
Great haul. In New York we have so many stink bugs. They go in your curtainns and if you pull your curtains and there’s like 10 of them. They’re gross I have those and ladybugs.
About the copper molds … it is my understanding that the ones lined with nickel are more valuable and worth keeping over the simple pressed pot metal cheap decor ones. Julie, recently, I , too, owned 2 homes , had to choose one over another. Then sold the little one, paid off the bigger one. Then realized it wasn’t where I wanted to live forever. I sold it and moved to a better community & owed very little after applying all the house funds. I am enjoying the process of rehabbing this home. Please enjoy your process. The house you are in is your transitional home and will carry you to your forever home.
I love the chicken wire bathtub. Wouldn't it look cute on a bathroom shelf with rolled up towels or washcloths. Also looks like those lids were for canning. Once they are used and jars opened they can't be used for canning but a great way to recycle. You said you wanted to build. It sounds like a great idea, but I personally couldn't do it. I watch Jackie, Blessed Beyond Measure, she is on the final stages of building after she lost her home from a tornado about one year ago. You are both much younger than I but it looks like a job in itself.
I love that you have had an epiphany and decided to simplify. I just don’t know where I would start if I was in your position because technically isn’t all home decor unnecessary? I have come to realize that I am a hoarder. I do have a problem w wanting and buying pretty things. I even know why I do it. I have had to start completely over with absolutely nothing many times in my 40 years. Starting over as a single mother with 4 kids and no family to speak of was very difficult every time. I also was a victim of a serious assault 12 years ago. It completely changed me, my life and lives of my children and close circle. I suffer from severe PTSD. My issues w hoarding and shopping for the best “treasures” got a lot worse after that. Finding great finds and creating things is the only things that have brought me any type of joy in all of these years since my assault. Finding my creative side and running wild with it has benefited me in more ways than I can say. It doesn’t make the hoarding any less of an issue however. I’m not so bad that I have rooms stacked full or so much that my house is dirty. I won’t be featured on the tv show Hoarders anytime soon but it’s still entirely too much. I have a much better mind set about it now. I can see it and I own it. I will definitely be downsizing in a major way. If I decided to get rid of everything that isn’t necessary I would literally have nothing but the basics and no home decor at all. With my PTSD, saying my home is my sanctuary is an understatement. I still like to decorate my home to express myself and what I enjoy. I think if I took it all away I would be just as unhappy as I am now if not more. I’m just curious as to how anyone would decide which decor pieces are necessary and what is not? I hope you figure out what works for you and your family and you find the relief your looking for. I know I wouldn’t want my kids to be stuck going through all of my things when I go home to God. That would be a major undertaking for them. They deserve better even if I don’t always believe that I do.
Julie, I am new to your videos but I knew immediately when I heard your voice that you were from south Louisiana. My mom was born in Ama. I have cousins there and in Luling, Hahnville, Raceland and Larose. Also, I have a friend that lives in Houma. I am so happy y’all love north Mississippi. I will definitely be subscribing to your channel and absolutely binge watching you to catch up on your videos. Take care! Cookie in Mandeville Louisiana
Im now 63 and I recently had an epiphany that I have wasted way too much time in my life wishing my house was bigger, wishing it had a better layout, wishing it had more storage, wishing I could afford to remodel this or add on to that. I have been in this house for 30 years now and never really and truly looked around and appreciated the blessing of our home. Dont get me wrong, It isn't perfect and I do really enjoy changing the decor for time to time. But, as I get older and spend time with my kids and grandkids in this house, I am finally able to look around our home and simply absorb the life we have lived and enjoy the love we share here. Please don't think I'm criticizing anyone for wanting to change or improve their home or where they live. If you can make it happen, go for it. But try not to get so caught up in the planning and the wishing that you forget to enjoy what you have now. I love this group and hope you don't mind me sharing my thoughts since my husband and I were both talking about this the other day. God bless!
I just turned 60, and I can really appreciate what you are saying. I was very sick and hospitalized in 2019, and nearly died. I remember thinking when I was in hospital that all I needed was clean Pajama’s When I came out, I was too sick to wear all my nice clothes and shoes. It made me realize I didn’t need all the stuff, and a bigger home to store it all in. I’ve gotten rid of a lot, and I am appreciating my small home now. Thank you for sharing Take care , and greetings from 🇨🇦
Absolute ditto on Chloe I have no doubt Julie that your dream house will come along. I am so proud of you for simplifying. I only wish I could do the same lol. Absolutely praying for your new journey in life God bless.
My Mom passed last year. After cleaning out her home and keeping some of her stuff, I started on mine. It felt good to declutter. I am in the process of going through my stuff again. I’m 58 and I don’t want my sons to have to clean all this mess out after I am gone. It took me a couple of months to go through my Moms home. I had time. It was left to my brother.
Hi Julie! I've been watching you for ages and always LOVE your videos. Your enthusiasm and sunny, down-to-earth personality just add to the joy. I never feel that you are twisting my arm or telling me how to feel, and so I find that the term "influencer" doesn't suit you. You are so much more!
I understand how you feel. Moving is hard and deciding what to get rid of and what to keep is hard. I spent an entire day trying to find all of my Christmas decorations. Finally found everything but now I’m going to purge, can’t keep doing this.
I’m impressed that you have made this realization at this stage of life. I am far older and have just really hit the wall with my tendency to buy too many thrift-store finds and hoard them. I have enough decorative decor for 4 homes the size of mine. I now donate a box or bag a week to charity shops. I will never be a minimalist but don’t want my belongings to be such a chore to maintain in some order.
I so can relate with you talking about your feelings going thru your other house. I have been picking for years and we are in the process of building our last house as I speak. I also have a booth and paint and restore furniture. The accumulation of things has begun to stress me out to the point that my emotions have got the best of me. I have been slowly donating piles and selling every piece that I pick up. I want a minimal house from this point on. I am a lot like you and can create or repurpose anything and guess what? Everything can be replaced. Our peace of mind is worth so much more. Prayers for you going thru this. I felt your emotions as you were speaking. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I'm so glad you sold your house in LA. I know that will help you in a lot of ways. As I get older, I'm getting rid of a lot of stuff. If it's just sitting in a drawer, I don't need it.
I’m so happy for you that your house finally sold but yet so sad for you that you’re struggling going thru and getting rid of things! You’ll feel so much weight lifted once you’re done! Hugs and prayers to you! ❤
Haha nothing like having to pack up a whole house to make you want to get rid of stuff! We moved a year ago. It is a bit traumatizing! My youngest, then 16, cried like a baby. Give yourself time to enjoy the holidays. 🙂❤️
I downsized from a 4 bedroom 2 bath house to a 2 bedroom 1 bath house. I have 2 storages that ive been paying on for 5 years. Going to try and sell it all. Was diagnosed with lupus and need to get rid of it all. I really save money and time and energy with nit buying
Im so happy for you!! I have recently begun the journey to part with some things as well. But, for me, it’s because I’m getting older and I realize I don’t NEED everything I think is “cute”. Lol. I know it will be tuff on you. Bless your heart, you already said the ironstone pitcher is staying…I know the struggle! Believe me…I know!!! Good luck! I’m sure you will make lots of $$$ to furnish that dream home with “new” rusty crusty old stuff when the time comes.
Oh my goodness! Please check the thumbnail on: The story re-cap "The medicine cured her but gives her a terribleside effect" I think I just found your dobbelganger!
Good for you Julie!! I have been trying to get rid of some stuff too. I'm actually starting to ask myself the 'Do I really need this?' question before I buy now! I'm not perfect in that area, but working on it. (At least you can put something up for sale if you realize you probably didn't need to buy it.) Glad your old house is sold and that now you can take your time finding your forever home. Hve fun doing that!
Kudos to you!!! That has to be hard going through and getting rid of things you purchased so long ago with a spot in mind for the future.....only for that to not happen and now getting rid of them!!!
Julie, I this is hard but this shall two pass. Your kidos are getting older and life changes, this is what Happens. The things we use to care about change. It just a part of life. You have made a beautiful home where you are now, I know its not perfect but that perfect place will come in time when you all are ready for it. You have come so far the last year or two and you have so much to be proud of. Your finds are fantastic im sure most everything will sell tomorrow, I know I will be shopping. Hahaha God bless
Wish I had your courage to let go of collected thrift items my x always called out house of copper-brass and wicker like your thrift items and decorating happy holidays 2u and family keep videos coming
Hey Julie. Wondering why you keep the sold items on your website. To me it devalues the items you do have. Feels like the leftovers. Also seeing that “sold out” on an cool item I’m drawn to just bums me out. Love your videos ❤❤❤👍
She is really doing a great job, transitioning, learning and trying to offer us a great site great content and inspiration. I think this is a learning curve for her and we don't know what the situation is. The item may have been put in someone's cart but not yet paid. Patience is a virtue. Maybe we need to cut some slack. My comment is not meant to be rude or negative, but I have been where she is. Julie is a great inspiration to many of us. I'm sure she is trying her best.
I know what you mean about wanting to be more simplistic and get rid of everything. We have a goodwill trailer and I cleaned out garage and old Christmas decor and stuff I been holding in for who knows why. Lol gotta love stink bugs…
I’m wondering if the website would be profitable for someone who isn’t a social media influencer? Is there some way to cross reference the webpage to your social media accounts?
Wow! Has it already been that long that ya'll moved to Mississippi?! It doesn't seem like it! I liked everything you showed us today! I always seem to be too late for your sales..ugh! But I'm going to keep trying to jump on there quicker! Thank you for sharing everything with us, Julie! Happy to hear ya'll have sold your Louisiana home.
You know... a great video idea would be to come to a subscribers home... go thrifting with them and redecorate their home. LOL. I guess since I suggested it... I'll volunteer myself. 🤣🤣🤣
@@rosehavenfarm2969 I am not "made of stern stuff" I have just actually gone through extremely traumatic and life scarring experiences--none of which involve moving boxes and do not appreciate those who make light of ACTUAL trauma......but thank you so much for your back handed "compliment".
Julie, I don't want to add more stress right now but I had written you a message last week about my mixup on the acanthus IOD mould. Received it and realized I had it. Would I be able to return it for the Classic element . Of course I will pay shipping it back to you and just have me pay shipping of Classic element back to me. I would so appreciate this!!!. I promise I'll get more organized on my inventory! Thank you! Just breathe deeply!
You only have to clean out your parents home when they are gone and then your in laws home when they are gone to realize you don’t want your kids to have to do that. You are probably many years from thinking about it, but one day you will.
I’m tired just listening to you, so much change… now in my 70’s, I can’t handle the stress of moving etc! I hope you find your forever home and get help with your packing and moving… it is stressful! I also wrote to you at your request regarding an item I bought from you, but you have not responded yet. Please respond now that you are home again.
I think everyone gets to where you are about your home and "stuff".......I think you do the Home thing 3-4 times in a life.... When the kids move on and only come home to visit is a big one, but you're a long way from there.
Oh my goodness …the STINK BUG … I can smell them when they get in my house. I swear I am a blood hound… I sniff them out and kill them! YUCK YUCK YUCK !!!! You did so well controlling yourself 😳😳 Congratulations on the sale of the Louisiana house and I’m sure you are overwhelmed with it all. When we moved into my family home, we were moving 30 years of OUR marriage on top of my parents 56 years of marriage. I was stressed out..but also caring for 2 dying parents, working full time all at the same time. Nervous breakdown mode ! Oh those Brass Swans…. What have you done to me !!! LOL!!! I think the surprise boxes sounds so fun! Have a great evening !

Yes you put a hurricane glass vase inside those wooden bamboo lanterns. I have one but I use a faux candle with a remote inside mine

Hook the bath basket to a board wide enough to side across a claw foot tub. Put containers of bath salts, soaps, etc, towels, a book.

the blue pitcher would look wintery with a white christmas tree in it.
Beautiful finds! I'm glad you got some time away from it all! Happy Holidays to you and yours! 🎄🤗❄️❤️
Hi Julie. That wire tub I feel like it could be used as a sleigh for Christmas.
So wire bath would be cute to store bath bombs in. Love watching your channel and shopping all your goodies!

so glad you sold your house! I'm always trying to get rid of stuff all the time since I hate clutter, but it accumulates so fast.
I am so excited that I was able to put the chicken wire tub basket! That’s so cute

Congratulations on selling the house. I hope I can catch some of your sales!
Omg 😱 I have stink bugs here in Missouri 😩 I absolutely hate them 🤢 they give me the hebegeebees big time 😂
Purse is adorable
The tall white basket is cute
And the second basket the one without the stink bug LOL I need that one too! Where and how can I buy these items?
You Rock Julie! I understand needing to let go of things. Good luck!
Nice haul. Glad you've sold your house
Maybe an umbrella stand
You know... a great video idea would be to come to a subscribers home... go thrifting with them and redecorate their home. LOL. I guess since I suggested it... I'll volunteer myself. 🤣🤣🤣
I’m sad to see your LA house go but I know that you are relieved to have that done. If you sell that spoonbill picture, I want it. 😂
How much for two floral prints
I think you'll find your next home when you go to an estate sale. :)
I need that chicken wire bathtub! Where and how can I buy it? I want to buy it now! Where? How? Please let me know LOL
So many of the houses you go to estate sales for I want you to buy and make yours!
Packing, moving, and unpacking... yes, traumatic.
Hang in there, young woman
I suppose if you haven't had to deal with any real trauma, unpacking boxes could be traumatic????......it's all about perspective.
@@tammyf5065 yes, it is. It depends on the person, too. How nice that you are made of such stern stuff!
@@rosehavenfarm2969 I am not "made of stern stuff" I have just actually gone through extremely traumatic and life scarring experiences--none of which involve moving boxes and do not appreciate those who make light of ACTUAL trauma......but thank you so much for your back handed "compliment".
Never say last!! 😂
Hey, I'm sorry. I never saw a message from you. Can you email me at juliesdesignsandsigns@gmail.com
Curious - how much the were the thrifted copper molds in your area????
I see you building a house in the future.
You only have to clean out your parents home when they are gone and then your in laws home when they are gone to realize you don’t want your kids to have to do that. You are probably many years from thinking about it, but one day you will.
From a distance the copper lobster/crawfish looks like something else. 😂. I’m sorry. It’s just what I seen when you held it up. Am I the only one?😳🧐
$40 for a tiny Itty bitty basket to hold garlic????????
Watch an episode of Hoarders……you will begin to declutter.
I love watching that show when I'm cleaning 🤣
Don't you hate it when your kids get an opinion!!!🤣
I can see bath bombs in that bath tub. Adorable.
U have to be exhausted
Oh my goodness …the STINK BUG … I can smell them when they get in my house. I swear I am a blood hound… I sniff them out and kill them! YUCK YUCK YUCK !!!! You did so well controlling yourself 😳😳
Congratulations on the sale of the Louisiana house and I’m sure you are overwhelmed with it all.
