    I have heard the term, "Pistol Keep" used when the receiver at the step-screen area catches & doesn't return it to the INITIAL ballhandler, then receives a screen HIMSELF as the new ballhandler. I have also heard the term, "Pistol/ 21-A.T." where the receiver DHOs to the screener. Basically a dribble-At for Blake Griffin to drive.

    Hi coach, I have a question: couldn't the pistol action be used in the start of the triangle offense?
    Everybody says the triangle needs to be more "modern", that seems a very natural way of surprising teams that go through the motions when defending it at the start

    • @coachdaniel8163
      @coachdaniel8163  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure, it's not a perfect fit. Yes the pistol and the triangle begin with a pass to the wing but the flare screen is not really aligned with the triangle.

      thanks for answering.
      I see what you say. Maybe it could be used sporadically just to make teams doubt whether it's triangle or something else.
      Personally I like the triangle, but what i like the most is breaking it at different points, if that makes sense. Use the offense as a base but be aggressive surprising defenses. Didn't really understand the pistol action before. Watching the video I thought that in that sense could be used from a seemingly triangle set to get away from it

      guillembad I like your idea, having used the Triangle Offense as a coach for 5 years, you can take Early Offense Pinch Post & just move the ELBOW guy farther out near the sideline. The very 1st time I saw 21 Series/ Pistol Offense, I called it a Pinch Post knockoff..... Lmao !!!

    ditto love your videos, question. so im a Clippers fan & seen the last clip with golden state doing this action with green with the ball at the top of the key. if Blake plays him up (more ball pressure) would this play still be successful?

    • @coachdaniel8163
      @coachdaniel8163  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Andrew Williams-Watson Yes because Green is a good ball handler he could then attack the basket. Best way to defend that play in that scenario would be to have DJ sag big time off Ezeli to take away the pass to Barnes. CP3 would stick to Curry preventing the 3.

    The Lakers' got a huge dunk off " Pistol" in Summer League with Ingram. Only problem is, a Left-hander should been catching the entry pass. Better than Elbow because a perimeter guy is catching the pass.

  • @deandrepage1048
    @deandrepage1048 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Steph Curry Option was Pistol/21-Down: Initial pass to the "trailing Big" instead of Step-Up screen guy, dive to the rim off that backscreen should equal an Alley-Oop dunk for other Aggressive teams. GSW is more of a Finesse team with Steph Curry being the option for screen & pop out.

    Thanks coach, the hawks use forehead/pistol as part of gameplan against Knicks because elfrid Payton is inconsistent shooting the rock through the years, according to what I learned here.

    Weakside BIG should set a Pindown Screen for that Corner Shooter at the same time the ball is reaching the Top of Key shooter of the Flare Screen.

    Hey coach, what does a Rip and a Fist action mean? Thanks

    • @coachdaniel8163
      @coachdaniel8163  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Pretty sure rip means screen the screen action. Fist im not sure, but if you haven't already ask Half Court Hoops he'd definitely know.

    Take the Pinch Post Guy (Triangle Offense & move him farther away from lane line & PRESTO, 21 Series/Pistol Offense. Biggest difference is the WEAKSIDE low post guy goes to Top of Key, but the same Weak Side Pindown Screen goes on. Ain't nothing new.

    so its just keeping the big man high to clear out the lane and then just playing smart street ball... this shit should all be intuitive to a basketball player. If its not, work on your game! Pass and cut, pick and roll. good job on the explanation tho!

    Lakers new roster with SPOT-UP SHOOTER, Danny Green receiving the pass and receive the Flare Screen after passing back to Lebron James. 😀😀😀
    Automatic Pindown Screen anytime the ball reaches the Top of Key for a pass to LEFT WING KCP
