Mr bias. Anything that comes from an animal is bad for us and everything that comes from a plant isn't. Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body. It's made of the amino acids glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline. By eating collagen, you get a ton of these amino acids, then your body has an easier time making collagen. It's not that complicated to understand. Eat protein to make protein, eat fats to make fats, eat carbs for energy. You can drink bone broth AND eat plants rich in vitamin C and other compounds that help collagen synthesis. It's not one or the other type of dilemma.

In a recent dietetics 101 course, we learned that, to oversimplify, the body more or less pools amino acids from wherever it gets them, and then uses what it needs when it needs it. There is plenty of evidence to support that all the amino acids the body needs are provided in ample quantities by a balanced whole food plant based diet, but with all of the other healthy nutrition provided by such foods, instead of all of the harmful elements of bone broth mentioned in this video. So why not get those amino acids from plants?
I think Mic is aware of his bias and transparent enough to include it in his username. He has stated that he has come to this bias through his understanding of the bulk of the scientific evidence as a graduate level student of nutrition and public health. He draws on solid research to back up his claims, and he cites his videos well, so that we can judge his evidence for ourselves.
The decrease of minimally-processed plant-based foods, and the increase in both highly-processed and animal based foods, in our diets seem to worsen and shorten the lives of humans, animals, and many other life forms on this planet. Increasing minimally processed plant based foods, while avoiding highly processed and animal based ones, seems to prevent and reverse many of the greatest health threats we face today, including heart disease, diabetes, cancer, auto-immune disease, and many other health problems (see Mic’s other videos, as a start, for references). Being aware of our own biases and informing ourselves well (with videos like this, for example), are vital steps to improving both our own health, as well as that of the other life, with which we share this planet.

Yet, we don't get the same benefits when we eat vegetables cooked in one of those ways. However, many of us do not eat the things in bone broth on any consistent basis.

WaterspoutsOfTheDeep This is just my personal opinion and isn't exactly about veganism.
Besides, veganism isn't about health but about ethics. Like, you shouldn't cage, exploit, rape and kill animals for pleasure. Health benefits like not dieing of heart disease, stroke or cancer as often is nice but that's not what it's about.
And it can't be a cult by definition because it's not a religion. Vegans don't pray to an imaginary higher being or something like that. They just overcame speciesism.

Anyone who uses the term "lol" cannot be taken seriously for a start. Plus i see your many responses are terribly rude and arrogant. I wonder why you are so "het-up" about a video denouncing Bone Broth? Surely you have something more pressing to do than this continual thrust and parry through one small video in TH-cam Land. You are indeed entitled to your somewhat denialist POV. I am Vegan, 54 years old, an endurance athlete... I have a friend with BC and she is consuming BB, I was curious to discover more to see if what she has been told (that its Alkalising) is correct... no mention in this video of note.. DR Michael Greger (www.nutritionfacts.org) recently shared the mentioned study on organic chicken and lead... I warned my friend on that one and suggested if she wished to continue perhaps beef bones were a wiser choice....
But anyway, I shan't waste another moment here except to say this... Veganism is hardly a new age cult. The term was coined decades ago by Vegans in the UK. It is also one of the fastest growing social justice movements of our time. The environmental issues will see a rapid acceptance of it in coming years as many governments realise that Meat consumption is completely unsustainable. So tell me "Waterspouts of the Deep" what is you take on the global urgency of Climate Change and the role Animal Agriculture plays in that? The second leading cause of GHG emissions (more than all forms of transport combined) Do you not feel a sense of responsibility to future generations? The matter so urgent that the world's leading climate change authorities agree that we must begin to take definitive action to address this issue of "WHO and how we eat" within the next decade? Even China is actively pursuing a 50% reduction in their populations meat consumption.....

Let me tell you my story, few years ago i became a vegetarian, first i was raw vegan, i did that for like 6 months, all the good stuff, juices ,thinks like spirulina, maca chlorela etc. I was eating spinach, avocado, drink very clean water and the result was as you would expect. Amazing transformation. That's just because plants have amazing cleansing properties, i balanced my hormones,my skin looked great. I eliminated all the bad stuff from my body, toxins, fungus probably parasites, candida etc.
Now this being said along the way i found myself eating lots of starches, bread, rise ..vegetarian stuff. So my common sense told , Hey...why im eating so many carbs, all this carbs turn into sugar, into extra calories , into fat. So my body start changing again, getting some belly fat and for the most part not feeling good and tell you the truth i was tired of not be able to eat foods i also enjoy. So i decide to not listen to anyone but my own body, so i started eating meat again, deciding to eat very balance diet, good meat , no sugars, cutting carbs etc. Along this way something happen in my life that brought me back to some old bad habits, i started drinking and using party stuff" As you would imagine my health deteriorate and start having very bad anxiety, depression ,fatigue etc. So when all this got very bad i quit party and i came back to the healthy life style. I started taking suppliments, drinking juices ,sprirulina chlorela etc. only that this time this stuff didnt help as my condition got worst ,specially after juice fasting(keep in mind that i was not partying drinking ,none of the toxic stuff),my body couldnt tolerate basically anything raw, speacially high fiber plants and starchy or acidic fruits.I would get a immune response as soon as i would eat something raw. My immune system was all messed up, my joints were hurting ,i couldn't sleep and my anxiety was on the roof. I was so lost bcs i was doing all the good stuff, eating all healthy vegetarian diet. So i went to dr. few times did all the analyses and nothing,he send me home and told me that im ok. So i start researching and i found out abt food allergies, i eliminate gluten ,starchy vegetables and fruits, i start doing the ketogenic diet and i started feeling better. Then i went deeper and deeper into nutrition, i learned abt the importance of a healthy gut and good intestinal flora, i start taking supplements that would help me heal my gut like probiotics ,omega 3 , minerals , mushrooms and eating good healthy traditional food as goat kefir, sour craw , chicken soup , beef broth , kombucha, butter, ghee etc. My health is back, i am revived, i still eat healthy vegetarian stuff but also eat animal products as i learn each one of them has its nutritional and healing value
So the conclusion is this,we are different and even as an individual we can be a different point in our lives , different health condition where our bodies require different nutrients and diet approaches, so learn for yourself what u need, learn how your body works and in what condition is, don't make organized religion out of nutrition, learn the different benefits of plants, herbs, fruits and animal foods and keep your critical thinking and rationality active before u take this nutritional decisions , after all is your life ,your health and well being in the game.
Videos like this is misleading, some thinks are true but is not covering the hole aspect of the situation and is not taking all the facts into consideration. There are people there that suffer from certain issues they will see this and they will never eat bone broth. Bone broth has amino acid proline and hydroxyproline as well as glycine that helps restore the gut lining , people from different cultures has been using this food for centuries to be healthy and strong. Rather then argues witch diet is better, either is vegan, vegetarian , paleo, ketogenic , gaps, learn about the importance of your gut health and the connection between the gut and the immune system and even the brain, learn the overall importance of the digestive systems, your organs ,your detoxing channels and what u can do to maintain them or restore their proper functioning. Cheers and wish you all to be healthy and happy!!!
ps: As english is not my first language my grammar may could have been poor here and there. :)

Please don't hate on me, because I'm going to eventually anecdotally prove your point is right. I have chronic Lyme disease and many other co-infections, along with many other physical and mental chronic illnesses. This summer, I was at possibly my most desperate point yet, and I was ready to try just about anything. I've been gluten free and vegan for almost 4 years (vegetarian for 17), and I don't see myself ever going back to animal products. HOWEVER, I was so BEYOND desperate this summer, and I won't get into all my symptoms and flares I was having due to bugs going crazy inside me, I begrudgingly agreed to give bone broth a try (for however long it would take to help, if it did...which I'll get to in a minute). I have a great family friend who's a pediatrician, and despite not knowing the complete benefits of a 100% plant based diet, she's very intelligent, and I knew she made broth, so she put some in a jar for me, my husband went to her office to get it, and I tried it that day. From the first (and ONLY EVER) sip, it was all I could do to even hold the rest of my stomach contents down. Honestly, about an hour later, everything came up. So not only did bone broth NOT help any of the things I was led to believe (many of which you shared here), it made me downright sick, mentally and physically, and I regret ever trying it. I don't regret being willing to do anything legitimately helpful to heal, since I'm 28 and have been bed bound for three years, BUT it's been proven to me, by science AND my own experience, animal products are NOT the answer, so, TL;DR-great video, man! This stuff needs to be out there!

Meat would most certainly help you but you need to accept mentally that you're of a species that consumes meat to survive. You mentally blocked yourself from eating healthy food.

sure its not a "miracle food" by any means but to call it nutritionally pointless is absolutely not true. To say it is a animal-based solution from a animal-based problem is also misleading as meat consumption is not the only way joints and arteries suffer. You would be more credible if you acknowledge the facts THEN provide non-animal alternatives

Andrew An always salty when a vegan can prove something is pointless with science and research to back them up. Plants clearly have more nutrients and benefits. Animal based foods are terrible for you. WHO aka World Health Organization classified processed meats as a class 1 carcinogen, so even if you don’t believe meat causes inflammation( which it does ) that information alone should be enough reason to stop eating meat.

Matt Howard Not trying to offend anyone here, honestly just hear to learn, since I'm young and just recently got an interest for nutrition. But I don't get why vegans say that meat is bad for you, do you mind explaining? I understand that it's bad for the planet, but for us humans? We've been eating meat for the over 100'000 years that we roam on this planet without going extinct right? Plus many people in my surroundings eat or ate horrendous amounts of meat daily, without ever having any health issues... So, could you explain what exactly is so bad about eating meat? Again, not trying to trigger anyone, just here for knowledge ^^

Cedi SUITMAN for sure bro. As a vegan for 2 years and a natural amateur bodybuilder I’ve noticed in the last two years after cutting meat and animal products from my diet I’ve put on the most size, have better recovery, and have increase my strength(Anecdotal claim over). But anyways back to the topic. Yes I agree that our early ancestors had to eat meat for means of survival aka winter when there were no plant foods available. People have romanticized this idea that early human would eat huge quantities of meat when in reality it was mostly plants with an exception to harsh winters where there were no plants available or when we food remains of an animal. Not to mention I don’t think we should base our diets around a group of people who lived on the edge of survival and often died of malnutrition around the age of 35, probably should base it on non industry funded research. Also leading anthropologist believe that cooked starches were responsible for our Brian development and considering the our brains exclusively run off of glucose and take 25% of the glucose we consume just to operate, I’d say that this theory stands up. I also find it hard to believe that no one in your association has no adverse health effects from meat consumption.. seems like a lot of information and tests that you would have to have done on them and or retain. Every 3rd death in American alone is heart disease, and that’s our #1 killer. 1 2 heart disease. 1 2 heart disease. What’s the only diet proven in a laboratory setting to reverse this disease? A vegan diet that refrains from eating meat. Also vegans have a 8x less cancer risk compared to meat eaters. Not to surprising considering the World Health Organization(WHO) aka the most creditable body for identifying carcinogens classified processed meat as a class one( the same as plutonium, cigarettes) and red meat as a class 2 carcinogen. Meat consumption has also been highly correlated to type 2 diabetes and I know I know correlation doesn’t equal causation but if 8/10 is leading to the same conclusion then what does that tell you. Meat consumption has been linked to numerous other diseases but I won’t get into that because I don’t want to write for an hour lol humans have also no physical adaptation for meat consumption, this is because physiologically were are herbivores. We have no claws, no enlarged k9’s, no predatory instincts(even noticed when you see a cow your mouth doesn’t water but it does when we season the steak with plants, fry it and it served to you). Also the ONLY animals that can get osteoporosis are herbivores this is because our digestive track is not designed to consume meat and other high cholesterol foods. And to think that humans have made 0 physical adaptations on the outside for meat consumption but somehow our digestive track has, doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. But that’s about all that I can think of on the spot, hope that was informative and that you listened to that with an unbiased and open minded approach. Meat consumption is terrible for human health and this has been proven time and time again. It took Americans 60 years to give up cigarettes after the data was clear about how bad they were. Funny enough the animal agriculture system uses the same tactics to confuse the public as the tobacco industry did. They fund their own research and funny enough they find no link to they products consumption and any link to cancer, heart disease, ect. All they have to do is plant that seed of doubt. If we look at the China Study, the most comprehensive study ever conducted looking at the link between diet and disease, the more meat you eat the more likely you’ll get cancer. So there you go man there’s so many more reasons why people should avoid meat and animal products but that’s all I could think of on the spot. Hope that helped

Bone broth is rich in amino acids and minerals that are necessary for building bones, and can help with healing when people have problems. If you're vegan, the by definition you obviously would not use it. But for people who have made the decision to include some animal foods in their diets, if it's high quality bone broth, it can be a good choice.

UHHH..... WHO THE F*CK TURNS TO A VEGAN FOR BONE BROTH INFO?!!!!!! IGNORANCE!!!!!!! And he sure doesnt look healthy! 😂
Bonebroth from grassfed organic properly raised cows, and pastured chickens are extremely GOOD FOR YOU!!!!! It is the huge companies that do not properly raise their animals that are not good for you. why? The bad stuff they feed them and inject them with! Soy, grain, antibiotics etc.... The bad things in the body get concentrated in the marrow. Also... Our bodies know exactly what to do with what is put in them! GOD designed us brilliantly! We reject waste, fight poisons, toxins etc.... If you put it in faster than your body rids it thats where the problems start. So pay attention to what you eat and get it from local farmers with proper practices that avoid grain and soy!
Note... I only eat meat, my health has greatly improved, my astigmatism has reduced which is amazing!, and I regularly consume bone broth along with chicken skins, and eat all the fat and gristle etc in my meat. When eating properly fed soy free grain free meat, My body uses nearly everything put into it and I only have to have bowl movements 1 or 2 times a week. My knees have stopped hurting, my arthritis in hands is improving, my eyesight and astigmatism improved, and I have lost weight, have more energy, and depression improved. However, when I switched to cheaper meat from mass producers that used grain rather grassfed, I had a BM every day and twice one of the days that week. Why? More waste in grainfed meat. Collagen is high in bone broth... improves all the previous mentioned and more! Also... I look much younger than I did before going all meat. Protein does NOT age you! Its a literal fountain of youth if you use it as a fondu fountain! This guy is an idiot! Make bone broth, fix your joints, tighten skin, strengthen nails, get nicer hair, and more. I dont need any cherry picked manipulated BS studies... I have experienced it for myself! You can do the same! I suggest you look into it more and see how it works for you. Im not a doctor and this is not medical advice, just my living testimony!!!! God bless!

Even worse. So ignorance isn't the issue pride is. You just tattled on yourself. Maybe don't have a big mouth and shit out stupid opinions before thinking them through just because you don't feel something is "authoritative" and now one will call you out on your bullshit. Apparently you think that gives you free reign morally to say what ever you want devoid of truth. Deplorable.

If what you say is so, why, after consuming bone broth with gelatin, kosher, for 2 weeks, are my fingernails completely hard and growing for the first time in 10 years? I am 64 years old. I have noticed that the bone broth also curbs my appetite and makes me feel full and is helping me in numerous ways. This is first hand experience and even I am surprised. I think you are duped. I think I was too. When I think of all the people with joint problems this may help, according to some, fads make me sad that people rule out things that might really heal. I heard that it heals leaky gut. Be sure of what you tell people.

sorry but there's just not a lot of real evidence out there to suggest that bone broth will make your fingernails grow, or someone's joints significantly better. consider the recipe you've been following, is it just bones and water? if not, maybe look to the vegetables or spices you added for reasons as to you're becoming healthier.

Greek Yogurt - whey decomposition is toxic to the natural environment, robbing oxygen from streams and rivers. That could turn a waterway into what one expert calls a “dead sea,” destroying aquatic life over potentially large areas. Spills of cheese whey, a cousin of Greek yogurt whey, have killed tens of thousands of fish around the country in recent years. Twice a day, seven days a week, a tractor trailer carrying 8,000 gallons of watery, cloudy slop rolls past the bucolic countryside, finally arriving at Neil Rejman’s dairy farm in upstate New York. The trucks are coming from the Chobani plant two hours east of Rejman’s Sunnyside Farms, and they’re hauling a distinctive byproduct of the Greek yogurt making process-acid whey.
For every three or four ounces of milk, Chobani and other companies can produce only one ounce of creamy Greek yogurt. The rest becomes acid whey. It’s a thin, runny waste product that can’t simply be dumped. Not only would that be illegal, but whey decomposition is toxic to the natural environment, robbing oxygen from streams and rivers. That could turn a waterway into what one expert calls a “dead sea,” destroying aquatic life over potentially large areas. Spills of cheese whey, a cousin of Greek yogurt whey, have killed tens of thousands of fish around the country in recent years.
The scale of the problem-or opportunity, depending on who you ask-is daunting. The $2 billion Greek yogurt market has become one of the biggest success stories in food over the past few years and total yogurt production in New York nearly tripled between 2007 and 2013. New plants continue to open all over the country. The Northeast alone, led by New York, produced more than 150 million gallons of acid whey last year, according to one estimate.

Not necessarily, stoke can be made without Raw apple cider vinegar, and much faster...
Where as a affective bone broth requires the raw vinegar to pull the nutrients and collagen out of the bones into the broth..
And the bone broth is better being simmered for a longer timeframe.
You can make a decent quality bone broth with the pressure cooker in 2.5 - 4hrs...

    • @a.h.3456

Yes it is the same. Adding vinegar just helps break the bones down faster. It does not change the process or the end results if you just use salt and simmer for many hours. Same exact stuff.

Now a few years later he's been diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia and parasites, guess where those came from, I think it was that slaughterhouse waste.... Ironicly the man had been on a macrobiotic diet most of his life, but started eating more animal products again in pursuit of better health... I don't know if the blood type diet is still popular, it's'not really big amoung vegans I think.
