The “unused” connector is the OEM plug for an OEM trailer wiring harness. Much less intrusive of an install but costs more, fyi.. 4:30
So if you use the OEM trailer wiring, the software 'knows' when you connect a trailer! Worth the cost since the backup features will be disabled (beeps/braking). Also, your range will be updated if you estimate the load's weight via prompts.

DJ, yes. The cable has a special coating on it so it will not scratch paint and is meant for the trunk of the vehicle to be closed on it.
