You saved me time and money! Literally filled up my 2017 6.7 f250 with diesel. Being tired and not realizing I was one of them idiots who put a little over half gallon of def. Only mistake I made was drive it less than a mile home. Drained everything completely. Filled about 3 gallons of clean fuel with additives into the fuel. Ran it a whole tank and drained the separator. Runs the same!
I got a splash of DEF in my tank I was told just to add more diesel and it will be fine... I didn't risk it and did this step and pumped out the quarter tank I had in it and ran new fuel through it and it been working fine. Filled up later on . Fingers crossed all goes well. I did this method so far so good did not replace pump put 3 gallons of new fuel in and pumped it out with fuel pump.Put new Chinese fuel filter in it did not let fuel out got stuck in filter housing had to use biggest channel locks and a lot of force to get Chinese fuel water separator out I suggest buying name brand fuel filters
I just did the same thing. Put a whole jug of def in my fuel tank. Didn’t start the truck thankfully. Having it towed to a shop this morning. Gonna have them drain it and clean it out for me. Company vehicle, company card. I sure felt like a dumba$$ when it happened though.
I just put a approx 10 or more gallons of def in a dodge 2500 I don’t catch it until it was to late so I’m sure this is gonna be a head ache I wish I would’ve caught it I would’ve tried this first
Sorry to hear that. Best of luck. You will probably be fine. These newer trucks have water seperator at the fuel filter and it will shut the truck down when it senses too much water.
@tonyfarese I put a entire bottle in mine yesterday and now the dealership wants $14,200 for an entire fuel system. Don’t know much about it but feel like they are getting me on this one.
@@boisefamilyplumbingllc7287 the fuel separator has a shut down feature that shuts it off when it senses water. I'm guessing you towed it to the dealer. I BELIEVE all you have to do is drain the separator and and then do a shown in the video and replace the fuel filters. Unfortunately you would have to tow it home to attempt all this. Next time TH-cam before call!
Do you replace the pump? Is pump still working good? I did the same mistake, I tow my truck to the near shop, mechanic say he has to drop the tank and replace pump😕, problem is he still have not find my pump.
Yes sir. That's what I did. Then you can swap out the fuel filter to be safe. The fuel filter has a sensor that will stop the truck if too much water in the separator. So you should be fine.
Yes. It is attached to the frame and has a yellow clip that you slide out and then you can pull it off the fuel line. It's very near the fuel separator. There's a video on Titan Fuel tanks channel that shows a close up of how to do it. I'll see if I can post a link. I cant find the video. There are others. It's same type of clip that is on the fuel filter under the hood.
Need help , the fuel line with the yellow clip is in the top the housing ,in the middle of two line with blue clips ??Or is the one in the right side of separator .
Yes. Search for Titan Fuel Tanks installation video Ford fuel line yellow clip removal. You have to keep the valve on the separator closed while you cycle the pump.

You do not have to replace the pump
So after emptying it do I just add the new fuel and cycle the key a couple time and start the truck ?
