My friend is Ukrainian and Ukrainian Jack Palance came to his family reunions... was married into his family... I knew Nick Adams started making Godzilla movies but didn't realize he died that young... thought he was still alive in Japan... sorry Jokementia/KamalToe/Tampon have unneeded war going on in Ukraine and many other places...
I saw Nick in the Japanese movies Astro Monster mainly. I never watched westerns. He did work in great movies and had great friends too in the business. RIP Nick.
I remember Nick Adams as Johnny Yuma! I was seven, maybe eight years old at the time (born in 1953) and enjoyed the show. I didn't catch all the episodes, as you put it this was the height of TV's Western Craze and there were plenty of Westerns to choose from. I obviously can't remember all "The Rebel" episodes but I do remember the one titled "Surrender At Appomattox." I found it on TH-cam several years ago and it was just as good as I remembered it being. In fact it's a VERY good portrayal of Lee's surrender in 1865. Keep in mind "The Rebel" aired at the same time as the Civil War Centennial which made it doubly enjoyable. I remember the Centennial as well. Thanks for this one!
I’m 70 now, but I remember watching that show as a child . I stayed with my grandparents a lot then and anything western my grandfather had it on!! RIP Nick.
Yes, I remember the Rebel with Nick Adams. He did a fine job acting in that role. A very likeable actor, and if he had better breaks, he would gone further in his acting career.
I loved The Rebel. I was in high school. Music sometimes comes back to me. And I remember the news breaking about his death. I was in college then. Thanks for doing this.
The Rebel was one of my favorite westerns when I was a kid. It seemed like he appeared in alot of the shows I watched back then. I thought he was a really good actor. Thank you for this one. I had no idea what ever happened to him. Sad!!
James Stewart movie... I wish someone would put that on TH-cam. That movie was the first I ever heard about the murder of Oklahoma Indians over oil as in the movie Killers of the Flower Moon.
Thanks Steve, another good one. I remember the show well, and you're right, I counted around 50 cowboy/western programs during the 50s and early 60s. Here's a fun fact: Johnny Cash sang the Rebel theme song, and he was not that well known at the time.
You're thinking of the outer limits it was an episode called "fun and games"the name of The Twilight zone episode you referred to was called "nervous man in a four dollar room"that wasn't Nick Adams in that Twilight zone episode.
Yes, I remember The Rebel. I'm 71. I so enjoyed it. Then when I'd see him in other shows I was sure to watch it. I really liked him. Being young back then never thought about why I didn't see him anymore. Thanks for the good memories being brought from my past.
I'm 72yo and remember watching The Rebel. It was a good western I did not know he ended his life @ that young age. I have wondered for years, @ times thinking it was McQueen that played Johnny Yuma. Ha!!
His career was before my time, and I don't think I've seen anything here that he was in. But it really shows how much drug abuse and mental illness have been around forever. Prayers for his children and thanks! Love this channel...
I Thought That Nick Adams Was Such A Handsome Man! And A Really Good Actor Too! I Remember Him In The Rebel And Other TV Shows As Well! Shalom And!✝️✝️🛐🛐😇🌟🤗🙏🙏🙏🇨🇦🇬🇧🇮🇱♾️🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🗽🦅❤❤❤‼️
My Grandma was addicted to all of the western shows back then. We watched Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Have Gun Will Travel, Maverick, The Rebel, Wyatt Earp, Rifleman, Roy Rogers, Wagon Train (Ward Bond), Rawhide, Sugarfoot, Fury, and a whole lot more that I can't remember. All my friends at school watched 77 Sunset Strip and Sky King..... Granny ruled the TV until 9pm so I missed out on the good stuff.
Nobody ever mentions branded my sister always sang the theme song when she left the house back then.BRANDED SCORNED AS THE ONE WHO RAN... WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOUR BRANDED AND YOU KNOW YOUR A MAN! But most people don't remember this show for some reason. I'm off to IMDB to get more info right now.... BYE folks!!😜 luv ya and Nick was a wise guy back then and I wasn't aware of his passing just his Godzilla movies! 😎. Bye Nick to bad for you.
Everyday I watch on Starz Cable television and movie westerns from various years and styles. I spend five hours watching some really obscure western movies and television series that were popular.
Female pushing 70 here and I watched the Rebel and I thought he was a dream boat although I must admit I didn't recognize him as an older man and I certainly didn't know that he died so young from a suspected drug overdose. Thanks so informative !
Invasion of the Astro Monster is a classic Godzilla movie. Nick Adams was the only one who spoke English in the film and it’s also the only one of the Toho movies where there is kissing scenes
@FCSchaefer Hi there . Is MeTV a new Streaming Service that I would have to purchase , or is it a free Channel somewhere on Spectrum ? Hope you're doing well . 🙂
I knew Nancy Conrad Robert Conrad's daughter, she spoke about Nick Adams quite fondly. She said he had a lot to do with her dad getting his break into Hollywood. I was surprised because I thought they would be competing for the same roles but I guess if you're secure in yourself & talent you don't mind helping a friend.
I remember watching quite a few episodes, and would not have remembered without your video. I had no idea he passed away so young, and was again reminded of the day that James Dean died. I was born on that day! Thanks
I remember watching maybe one-two episodes of the Rebel but I was only 5-6 yrs, I remember he was in Picnic & a Doris Day movie,,,,,,I do remember reading a movie magazine in 1968 when he died,,,,,very short life.
Nick Adam’s was very intense and compelling in an episode of The Outer Limits called “Fun and Games” that co-starred Nancy Malone. It was an interesting Survivor-style story, sort of a Most Deadly Game idea also, and one of the batch of unique quality episodes from late in that show’s first season. Worth a watch.
Adams never really had "A List" movie talent but he was great as a secondary player. No Time For Sergeants is simply hilarious and what can I say about Astro Monster? it's great if you're a fan and Nick is the only actor who wasn't dubbed lol
I remember " The Rebel"...Always seemed like Nick only had small movie parts. Very good to see he was a U. S. Coast Guard Veteran!!...As I was... Hopeful that his death was not suicide..
Not only do I remember watching "The Rebel" as a little kid, but I was enough of a fan of the show that my mother bought me a Johnny Yuma Confederate gray kepi cap with a Confederate flag decal on top and a Johnny Yuma style gray tunic with the same type of fringes along the shoulder seams that was on sale in the Children's Clothing Section at JC Penny's if I recall which department store. I watched that show regularly along with many other top shows in the very early 60s. I remember: Zorro, Have Gun -- Will Travel starring Richard Boone, Gunsmoke with James Arness, 77 Sunset Strip, Leave it to Beaver, Bonanza, Route 66, The Rifleman with Chuck Conners (strange trivia: this was Soviet dictator Leonid Brezhnev's favorite TV show, and on a state visit to the US hosted by Richard Nixon, Brezhnev was so thrilled to meet Conners that he embraced him with a Russian bear hug and kiss on each cheek), Wanted: Dead or Alive (with Steve McQueen and his famous sawed-off repeating rifle (my parents bought me a plastic toy version that fired rapid plastic bullets), Burke's Law starring Gene Barry (always remember his 1962 Silver Cloud II Rolls-Royce; it was my dream car), The Beverly Hillbillies,Twilight Zone, and Sea Hunt with Lloyd Bridges.
Years ago an over-the-air TV sub-channel televised "The Rebel" TV series. One episode displayed that the Johnny Yuma character was literate and well-educated, as he was assisting the publisher of a town newspaper with print-shop duties.
My Dad watched Westerns on TV on Saturday nights and, as a little fellow, I'd sit in the room with him. Being something of a Civil War buff, I was quickly drawn to Nick Adams as 'The Rebel.'
I remember the episode of him on Wanted Dead or alive with Steve McQueen . I also remember his roll on Pillow Talk too , Poor Doris lol ! Jan Morlow ) luckily The Rebel still Aires today. I remember him on Hondo . So many acting rolls for a young life . A Sad ending . 😇 Didn’t know about his demise. Thank you ❤️
I grew up in Houston, Tx - in those years we were taught about the depredations of the Union army and the carpet baggers - we all watched The Rebel and Johnny Yuma.
Shocking to hear the term "Carpetbaggers", a corelated term was "Skalawags". Most are unaware that, U.S. Grant issued a standing order to the military commanders in the defeated Confederate states of America during the oppressive ten year occupation by the industrial north. During that time, Grant was made aware of those 2 terms by his various district commanders. The terms referred to J/e/w/ money lenders whom infected the beaten south, corrupting commanders into increasing taxes levied against southern property owners, to the point they could no longer pay them - at which time those "Carpetbaggars" and Skalawags bought up thousands of acres for pennies on the dollar. Grant's order instructed his commanders to EXPEL those opportunistic hustlers and if they refused, they were to be arrested. It took them only several weeks to have that order struck down and continued their rape of the Confederate States of America. In his memoirs, he always fealt that his role in the (forced) war with Mexico, the U.S., he fealt, was guilty of a powerful nation forcing it's will on a weaker one, (recall gold was discovered in CA. about '48 - '49).
I didn't really watch much of "The Rebel", a little bit before my time I guess? But I did like his performance in "No Time For Sergeants"! For years afterwards I didn't know that was him in that role? Only seen it once as a child, and watched it with my family years later and then I did realize that it was Nick Adams. I really had a new found appreciation for his acting afterwards!
For me, Nick Adams' best picture, will always be: 'No Time For Sargents'. Nick shown through everything, he was in. When I was a kid, I liked him in those Godzilla movies. His worst part was in, an episode of 'The Outer Limits', titled 'The Games' (I think that's, the title), as it really wasn't his fault, for a dislikable episode.
I loved The Rebel when I was a little boy in the early 1960s. That, and later Combat, were a couple of old ones I was really into. I'm much more of an old hippie peacenik in my old age, but that was appointment TV when I was a little scrapper.
The Rebel was a great western. RIP Nick!
I knew Nick Adams started making Godzilla movies but didn't realize he died that young... thought he was still alive in Japan...
I watched The Rebel and all those 'gazillion' other Westerns, but of all of them, it's The Rebel's theme song that always sticks in my mind!
Thank you very much, Steve. I'm of Ukrainian descent. I remember the TV show and the song, Johnny Yuma.
Same here, I remember the show also and my Grandmother was from Ukraine..
Johnny Yuma, was Bitchin💯👍😎👌
Thanks Steve, im 66 and always thought he was so cool. Too bad things didn't work out for him. Life is harder for some than others. Good job !
Thanks Vince.
I saw Nick in the Japanese movies Astro Monster mainly. I never watched westerns. He did work in great movies and had great friends too in the business. RIP Nick.

Remember watching The Rebel on TV when we had one. You're right. Gazillion westerns on TV at that time.
I remember Nick Adams as Johnny Yuma! I was seven, maybe eight years old at the time (born in 1953) and enjoyed the show. I didn't catch all the episodes, as you put it this was the height of TV's Western Craze and there were plenty of Westerns to choose from.

I watched every episode and every rerun over and over and over . Loved that show.
It was good show.
I’m 70 now, but I remember watching that show as a child . I stayed with my grandparents a lot then and anything western my grandfather had it on!! RIP Nick.
WGN-Chicago played this constantly along with the Steve McQueen TV series "Wanted Dead or Alive".
Yes, I remember the Rebel with Nick Adams. He did a fine job acting in that role. A very likeable actor, and if he had better breaks, he would gone further in his acting career.

He and Andy Griffith were beyond great in No Time For Sargents.
My father loved westerns, so the Rebel was one of the shows we watched. I remember Nick Adams best from No Time for Sergeants.
I watched The Rebel with my dad a few times, thanks for remembering him. 😊
I always liked Nick Adams. I watched The Rebel and loved Twilight of Honor with the very beautiful Joey Heatherton.
I watched The Rebel when I was a kid. I still sing the theme song once and awhile.
Johnny Yuma
I remember Nick Adams in The Rebel. The theme song was memorable.
I remember him from the Rebel, was a kid at the time. I was a fan! His death was such a shame.
I remember watching Johnny Yuma, the Lone Ranger and Death Valley Days as a kid.
@@VintageVera I still watch "Lone Ranger" reruns; he and Tonto were terrific.
Nick Adams in the movie FBI Story. He played a man who blows up a plane by giving his mother a gift. She was a passenger on the plane
James Stewart movie... I wish someone would put that on TH-cam. That movie was the first I ever heard about the murder of Oklahoma Indians over oil as in the movie
Killers of the Flower Moon.
The Rebel was a favorite of my family. Many, many years later I learned who did the theme song.
Thank you for this info, Yes , I remember The Rebel well, Loved it..
Thank you for watching!
Great video. I watched The Rebel all the time. Nick Adam’s was great in the role of Johnny Yuma.
Thanks Steve, another good one. I remember the show well, and you're right, I counted around 50 cowboy/western programs during the 50s and early 60s. Here's a fun fact: Johnny Cash sang the Rebel theme song, and he was not that well known at the time.
I grew up near Nanticoke, PA. He was a local legend.
I watched the Rebel. It was as good as they were back in the day. Thanks for the info, never knew much about Nick Adams.
He was in a great twilight zone episode "small man in a cheap room".
You're thinking of the outer limits it was an episode called "fun and games"the name of The Twilight zone episode you referred to was called "nervous man in a four dollar room"that wasn't Nick Adams in that Twilight zone episode.
Favorite show Johnny Yuma and still know the song. He was a good actor also. Definetly gone too soon. Good video.
The song is what tripped a wire in my memory. "Johnny Yuma was a rebel........" Catchy little ditty.
Yes, I remember The Rebel. I'm 71. I so enjoyed it. Then when I'd see him in other shows I was sure to watch it. I really liked him. Being young back then never thought about why I didn't see him anymore. Thanks for the good memories being brought from my past.
I really liked he and Andy Griffith in No Time For Sergeants. Thanks again Steve.
That's one of my favorite movies. I've tried to get Andy Griffith show fans to watch that over the years most of them haven't heard on it. 😮
Nice video... I had no idea he was just 36.. Very sad.. Loved the comedy movie he did with Andy Griffith No Time for Sargents..
I made a point of watching the rebel when I was a kid. I really enjoyed that show.
Thanks Steve
You are very welcome William.
It's sad that so many actors of Nick's period of time met untimely ends such as Natalie Wood, James Dean, Sal Mineo etc...
I'm 72yo and remember watching The Rebel. It was a good western I did not know he ended his life @ that young age. I have wondered for years, @ times thinking it was McQueen that played Johnny Yuma. Ha!!
I remember him as Johnny Yuma, but mostly for his role in The Outer Limits episode; Fun and Games.

Hi there . Is MeTV a new Streaming Service that I would have to purchase , or is it a free Channel somewhere on Spectrum ?
Hope you're doing well . 🙂
I don't remember seeing "Rebel" growing up but the clip you showed reminded me of another great show, "Branded" with Chuck Connor.
Yes, I remember, and watched it. It sounds as if he was kept back(thwarted) by the BIGWIGS. He was a great actor(my opinion). Thanks for posting.
Thank you very much, I never knew what happened to him, remember him in Mr Roberts, great movie....sad drug OD lead to his death at a so young age
I'm 61 and I do recognize him. He was a great actor.
I recently saw that Japanese Mars show on TV.
My late brother in law knew Nick Adams from Jersey City. He said Nick was a very nice guy.
My grandfather worked with his mother at Western Electric.
I remember him.
I was young when The Rebel was on TV, but I did enjoy it.
I think I watched later reruns.
I remember him from his small role in "Pillow Talk." It's tragic Nick didn't live long.
I really liked "the Rebel"
I loved that show , especially the song.
Excellent presentation.
Nice clip, I'm sure I've seen him in TV & films but the name just didn't register. Your right Lots of westerns !! RIP MR. ADAMS. 🙏🙏

I never watched The Rebel, but I do remember his lead role in the Outer Limits episode "Fun and Games", a precursor to Star Trek's "Arena".
I only knew Nick Adams in the Japanese Kaiju movies. I often wondered how he wound up in Japan. Thanks
Adam's height 5' 6" , also was an obstacle preventing him from getting good parts in movies and series.
