Legally, if your marriage is registered under special marriage act(commonly known as court marriage), then you cannot be converted into a marriage under HMA. But if you both are Muslims then In my opinion it can be registered following proper nikah nama.

You will need id proof, address proof and date of birth certificate.
Have to appear twice first at the time of filing application and second after 30 days notice for objections if any.

In both marriages whether traditional(HMA) or marriage under special marriage act there is restriction of one year for divorce.
