Hello, does this record in stereo through the mic input jack? I'm planning to buy one just for recording the stereo line output from my digital piano. Thanks!
Good review. I'd say that an affordable but near-pro quality audio recorder is a necessity, if you are in any way serious about your recorded sound. For instance, a camera equipped with a nice external mic could be located too far from a source of sound, but too near a source of background noise. This is when you might want to have such portable recorder to be placed near your desired sound source and forget about the camera mic. So there. This is my take on the topic at hand.
I actually prefer in this instance the fact that it uses AAA batteries. priorly I used a different brand that had an internal rechargeable battery, and I would always end up out in a situation and needing to record but having forgotten to charge up the recorder. of course if that happens now with my Sony all I have to do is just walk across the street to the little corner store and pick up some AAAs.
Thanks for this, definitely buying it now. I record inside but I do a lot of movement while shooting so having the recorder on me with lapel mic separated from the camera works a lot.
I'm in the same situation with the Sony a5100, I'm broken between Sony ICD PX470 or the Sony ICDUX560. Does the 560 have better quality and is it worth the price difference? Hi, that's good timing, I'm glad the video was useful! I was tempted by the ICDUX560 as it's smaller and has a built in rechargeable battery. However the ICDUX560 battery isn't replaceable, which might be an issue after a few years (if battery performance drops). The reviews online of the ICDUX560 say the audio quality is better than the ICD-PX470, but so far I've had no issues with the sound quality, so I think the difference will be negligible. I think both serve pretty much the same function so it comes down to personal preference, I'm happy with the ICD-PX470 so far!

Great video! I have a vlogging channel and a Sony a5100. I love the camera and generally it’s not bad with audio especially after I put DIY Wind Muffs on it but I did a vlog downtown Houston once and I was surprised how much background noise came through! I really need a recorder like this
Do you think it is good for recording conversation outdoor? I'm starting to some interviews with some elders in my family about history and some lessons too. This type is the only suggestion I get when I search the type recorder I need. Beside I don't wanna bring power bank everywhere.
It is almost impossible to get clear recording from a long distance, especially in a lecture hall, no matter how much money you spend on your recorder. For long distance recording the issue is not the recorder but the microphone you use. A shotgun mic is what you need, and even then, it might not be satisfactory. Your best bet is to get permission to set one of these little Sonys on the podium, close to the speaker.

Nice review. I'm looking to buy this (or similar Sony product from the ICD range) and pair it with an action cam (no mic jack on action cam) as part of a small tripod/hand rig for lo-fi shots and nearly all action cams have notoriously low bitrate sound that is only good for syncing or okay to use when drowned in other audio/music.
Great overview, want to know if this has some noise cancelling build it for wind noise and also does it work with a Mac with the latest version of OS? Cheers and keep well.
It works fine with any Mac, including my new M1 equipped MacBook Air. No, it has no noise cancelling (that is handled in post), and for wind noise you would need to find some sort of "dead cat" filter for another mic that would fit over this one.
I’m going to the colorado mountain area for hiking and I plan on proposing. My concern is loud winds and stuff. I wanna record me proposing so audio is important. I also have a5100. So good timing with recommendations lol. I’ll try the lapel mic with this recorder. I’ll be also using a GoPro hero 5 and a drone to record the event. Any suggestions on how to sync the audio? First time editing video with external mic audio. I’m guessing there’s a shortcut in adobe premier or something.
Thanks for the comment, I definitely think an audio recorder with a lapel mic would be a good idea for your situation, sounds like you've got the whole thing well thought out. For syncing the audio, if you clap at the start of recording you can line up the video to the sound quite easily in premiere pro, then the rest of the audio will be in sync. Good luck with the proposal!
@@ArronPrescott simple solution thanks! i wouldn't say i have it fully thought out lol. i need to do a speech and i also need get the drone to work the way i want it so that i don't have to have the the gear right by us for the shot. i've been wanting to buy a 6400, but i keep getting told to stick with the 5100. my thought process is that since i have the sigma 16mm 1.4 that it should work better with the 6400 than the 5100.

Hello Arron, thanks for your video, it is very helpful. Can you please give me your advice ? I am looking for an audio recorder, for an old person that wants to record his memories. The idea is that he will narrate and I will transcribe them on my Mac. Do you think that this device will be suitable ? Many thanks
This may sound a bit silly but Iam new to this I would like to know when you are recording with the mic on the recorder how do you get it to match up with the video Thanks Ken
Not a silly question at all! You'll need to sync up the audio in your video editor. Some have an audio auto-sync option. But it's also achievable by lining up the audio waveforms manually. Hope this helps!
When recording your audio on a different device from your video camera, a simple, old-school trick is to begin recording and before the action begins, slap two boards together or do something else that makes a sudden, loud noise. You will be able to line up the video of that action with the big spike in your recorded signal, and should be pretty close to sync.
My mother in law is getting very old and she's telling wonderful stories from her lifetime and we want to record them, the only problem is that because of the virus we are only talking on the phone for now so how do you think it would be with picking up a voice that's on phone speaker (indoors), I'm not expecting great sound, it's not that great anyway with speaker on anyway I just want it clear enough to hear her stories? Also when you transfer to your computer, is it possible to add a comment or note as well as date for each individual recording? I'd really appreciate your help thanks.
Hi, I have used this device for recording phone calls which were on speakerphone. (Making recordings of interviews). As long as the recorder is positioned close to the phones speaker and you're in a quiet environment then the recording quality will be good. Of course if the phone line isn't clear the recording will only be as clear as that. You can rename the files to include the date and a note. Hope that helps!
It's Sony so you know youre good AF. Been having this for years, 370 is a beast. Doesn't feel flimsy, rugged indeed an i like that. Also like the fact the microphone is internal n protected vs my experience with fancy exterior microphone records, bad. Surprisingly the 470 doesn't pick far voices like the 370 does, tho not perfectly but it does. The 470 is slight fancier but the voice quality is clearer vs the 370. The 470 is more for indoor or closed door recordings with a 1 on 1 type setting, now don't get me wrong it should serve a class or meeting perfectly where multiple people speak, indoors tho. Sony has always brought excellence in the simple usage of things, would you agree? So if were to choose one id without hesitation would choose the 370 over the 470 and above models. Especially over the discontinued model that has an internal battery, i can't trust that simply bc i need to be able to control battery issue if i have any. 370 has about 50 hours of internal recording time, and with Chip you'll be looking at arguing 2,000 hours recording time. Definitely a better choice over phone recordings bc of many factors. I love the file tags we can put on these two prime models after the recording is done too. Each setting affects the recording storage, but barely noticable. No complaint still. Absolutely not. Great for special occasions and family stories to keep and upload to other devices with it's USB port n Cable entries. Do not hesitate using it for anything and everything, these has that much storage to show for. They slap, and they slap hard. Sony 370 all the way, till the end of world! You might find me so crispy grasping the 370 in the apocalypse, and if you do, press play. LOL Let me know y'all's experiences..
Do you use a digital audio device? Or happy with your cameras on board mic?

How was it?
I want to use this to record my motorcycle rides, device itself will record the ambient sound and the engine sound in my backpack and additional mic will record my voice inside the helmet? do you think it will be helpful?
the device will not record from two inputs simultaneosly. If you do not mind doing separate recordings, no problem. OF course when you record with the external mic it will pick up the engine, wind and traffic noise as well to some degree, as well as your voice.
the canvas behind you looks so dope
I think I should try this for Sony A5100. Thanks
Does it continue recording up to 10 hours nonstop?
I have a aux microphone to plug in the recorder but it isn’t picking up my voice and can’t find the correct setting to change
There are aux microphones (lavaliers) for cellphones and they are the most populars for this kind of recorders you need a special one
where can i take my px333 sony voice reorder to get it repaired.I have files that i want to get off it.What's the names of the companies and what's they addresses so i can mail the voice recorders that has to be repaired to them ??
If you have 100 files or whatever on this, how can anyone go back to the exact file to relisten to it later? I don’t have a computer! Thanks
What does it mean by T-Mark button?
what’s transcription mode😊
Wish you had recorded outside without mic because I’ll be doing an interview outside
Is it good for TH-cam vlogs?
I want to use my iphone's voice memo app but since i hardly have any space i want to buy a recorder
hi can I ask you something. can I attached internal mic here like rode mic?
can I fast forward or rewind a voice reconding file
is there an option to adjust the recording volume/gain/sensitivity when using an external mic?
Hello, can you hear the what is being recorded through the headphone simultaneously. Also, would it be possible to connect two microphones into the single input using a splitter?
1. Yes you can 2. Don't know.
Is there an mic on the thingy itself? Or do ineed a mic for it ro record?
Yes there is a stereo mic built into the device, but also a jack input for one as well.
@@ArronPrescott thank you ! good to know and thanks for for fast reply !

can u recover files mistakenly deleted from the device
Hello Arron, thanks for your video, it is very helpful.
Can you please give me your advice ? I am looking for an audio recorder, for an old person that wants to record his memories. The idea is that he will narrate and I will transcribe them on my Mac.
Do you think that this device will be suitable ?
Many thanks
This device would be perfect for that. It is very simple to use, and delivers a very clear sound.
Hello Arron, is the mic input stereo?
Yes. Works well with a stereo mic.
This may sound a bit silly but Iam new to this I would like to know when you are recording with the mic on the recorder how do you get it to match up with the video
Thanks
Ken
Not a silly question at all! You'll need to sync up the audio in your video editor. Some have an audio auto-sync option. But it's also achievable by lining up the audio waveforms manually. Hope this helps!
@@ArronPrescott Thanks Arron I understand that Cheers
Great! thanks for your quick reply very much appreciated 👍
I am using this unit to record for radio program and facebook.
Perfect fit.
Does this have a feature for voice activated? meaning it only records when someone is talking?
Yes it does.
LOL
Let me know y'all's experiences..
Sony ICDPX370 what you thing about this one ....
can you monitor the audio in real time through the headphone jack?
Yes you can.
Does this recorder have the feature for voice activated??
