Holy crap ... this one's a real tearjerker ... a real sad but awesome tribute to a railroad that had crappy management which ran it into the mud! Quite a tragedy if you ask me.
My Dad, Jay Vaughan was Section Forman on a stretch of this line at Kadoka, SD His section of track was between Belvideer and Interior, SD, Great memories, He retired in the early "60's..
This is Great! I miss the ol' Milwaukee road. I live in SW Minnesota and had the Milwaukee railroad literally on my back yard, 100 ft. from the house I grew up in.
Driven to Rapid City many times and to think there was an active RR right next to I-90 is mind boggling. Between Sioux Falls and Chamberlain there's nothing.
It was a very sad day when the Milwaukee pulled ot of Tacoma, Wa & the west. I have ticked stub's & time tables. As a child my parent's & I had some nice trip's & it brings back a lot of good memories & it's sad that management was a bunch of dick head's & it's even worse today when they only think of them self
I MEAN, C&NW & BURLINGTON NORTHER HAD A BRANCH LINE IN HOPKINS MINNESOTA AND MILWAUKEE ROAD HAD A MAIN LINE THRU HOPIKINS SO DID C&NW SO, C&NW& BN HAD A RED OWL BRANCH LINE TO THE FACTORY! IT TURNED INTO SUPER VALU. WHEN SUPER VALU CLOSED THE RED OWL, BN HAD TO LEAVE! ALSO C&NW LEFT! C&NW MAINLINE GONE WHATS LEFT OF IT IS SOO LINE TOOK OVER MILWAUKEE, THEN THE TWINCITIES&WESTERN CAME AND TOOK THE LINE FROM SOO>
Great show , the MILWAUKEE ROAD was the best of the best !
Loved the badlands route shots 👍
Look at those cars with no graffiti. Love it!

I used to be a Conductor for the Sooline. The Austin line ended at Jackson wye. Line used to go all the way west of Madison South Dakota.

Maybe gone but not forgotten.
They're all great photos. Thanks for your work on this.
At the 4 minute mark--- who was that lucky young man????
Great tribute !!!
The Milwaukee pulled out of Tacoma,Wa . in 1980 & took up all the track & over head lines
Anyone have pictures of the line going through Grand Meadow Mn? My family had a farm in the SE corner of town just one block south of the tracks.

Any chance you have any pictures going through the Snoqualmie tunnel in Washington State I've searched and I haven't found any
Burlington Northern should've used that line from Chamberlain to Rapid City!
That track was so bad the DS wouldn't even use it.
the line from chamberlain to presho going to be repaired!
IT DIDN't HAVE TOO BE THIS WAY! BN DIED SOO DIED MILW DIED! ALSO C&NW! BN DIDn'T NEED ATSF!
Cn NW = UP
you can still commonly see the BN on the BNSF..
FNBS Stobe the Hobo!
Well, I did hear that the state of South Dakota was railbanking the line for future use - possibly for ownership of the line by successor BNSF.
I MISS MY YOUTH!
