[HOW TO] Upgrade Dash Cluster & Steering Wheel in a 2019-2022 Silverado LTD Custom

  • READ THIS: This upgrade requires the cluster, the added wire and the new steering wheel for all functions to work. You cannot add a new wheel with radio controls and expect the controls to work. All the new functions get routed through the new cluster. You cannot do one without the other.
This process should be similar on 2019-2022 Chevy Silverado & GMC Sierra LTD models. The new 2022.5 "refresh" models may not be compatible because they have some new wiring that may not line up with the previous year trucks. Best to check with WAMS (link below) to see if your truck is compatible.
Big thanks to White Automotive & Media Services (WAMS) for providing the dash cluster for this video. Visit their website here:

Also thanks to Harness Dr. I purchased the harness from them that is required to connect the new cluster to the new steering wheel. They provide excellent directions on how to install the wire and it comes labeled, terminated, and clothe taped for an easy OEM looking install.

I purchased my steering wheel from eBay. It's a genuine GM. The part number is: 84946341

I have a question. is it possible to swap the hvac controls for the digital hvac controls. It’s GM part # 84692242. I searched the forums and I’ve seen people do it in their 14-18. Wondering if it’s possible. Looks like it just pops in.

did you ever figure out the heated wheel? or just didn't worry about it? Also does this work on the 4 cylinder? I was curious if it actually reads the Turbo Boost pressure. I was hoping you would pop the throttle to see if it would.

What stocked radio do you have? I noticed in description is says “In order to Utilize the Music, Navigation (if Equipped) and Phone menus you will need to have an IOS or IOT radio; the IOR does not have the capability to drive those menus.” Mine looks like yours. 7” basic. Is that where the Harness Dr harness comes in play? Harness lets the IOR radio talk to steering wheel?

    • @fondupot

I have the IOR radio. But my new high country DIC screen doesn’t have the “music, navigation and phone” sub menus. Because the IOR doesn’t support those menus. But the harness doctor enables the steering wheel controls to work.

There is a way to bypass it but involves cutting and splicing some wires on the clock spring and inside the steering wheel. And an aftermarket controller and switch would need to be used. I suggest you read the WAMS product page. It tells you everything you need to know. Mileage is stored outside of the dash cluster so it transfers over. But a new cluster will still require programming specific to your VIN for all the options to work. WAMS does this for you.
