We can either take control of our own health or we can become victims of the food-medical-industrial-complex. The choice is ours. Thanks Dr. Westman.

I found it helpful having a motivator. For me it was learning that diabetes can cause blindness and kidney damage. When I took my own lunch to work for our Christmas lunch a couple of people noticed (who are T2 diabetics, one on insulin, the other metformin) and I said My health doesn't take a holiday.

Dr. Westman, I want to thank you for taking the time to post these videos so that we can be educated and heal unnecessary diseases. I am making sure to post this on every single doctor I have listened to that has aided in my journey in one way or another. I reversed my diabetes in 3 months. A1C went from 12.6 to 4.9 on keto, then 4.9 to 4.5 on carnivore. Without you and some of the other doctors, I would not have found this knowledge and would still be sick and dying with diabetes. I am truly thankful and I do not have enough money to give you all for what i think your information is worth so the only thing I can think to do is make my own channel and join you and the others efforts to getting the message out. Thank you again!

I learned of your video's almost a year ago now thru a friend. My wife and I have followed your advice for about 11 months now and I have lost 110 pounds and my wife about 65 pounds. I am fortunate to have a Dr. who agrees with your approach. With his guidance I am off all blood pressure medications and one for Barrett's esophagus that lowered stomach acid. My wife has a different Dr. and is struggling with getting her to comprehend and lower her medications even though her BP is below normal ranges and pre diabetic condition has improved.
Thank You for your words of wisdom.

I started the food plan you instructed my joint pain is gone, my fatigue has been replaced with energy and I am able to sleep through the night. I have been diagnosed with Lupus but the medication prescribed for the Lupus gabapentin, Methotrexate made me dizzy and caused GI distress. I started researching the internet and found your videos. I don’t eat quite 20 carbs a day I have gone from 167lbs to 154lbs
Some days I don’t eat any carbs.
This lifestyle change has given me a new lease on life. I am a 73 yr old retired nurse. I had never taken medication until the Rheumatologist tried to prescribe meds for Lupus. I have not been a smoker or drinker my normal b/p is 116/68 I am not a diabetic.
I will follow page 9 because your advice has been the only thing that has helped me.

This was very informative. It is easy to get confused by all the different philosophies and information online. I have been working into "dirty keto" for just over a week now and, after spending the last 4 years so inflamed with chronic pain in my joints and muscles, I can finally wake up feeling good. I can't believe the change. It took only a couple of days, and the pain was virtually gone. That's what motivates me more so than anything else. I never thought this was possible. I thought I would be in chronic pain forever. Thank you for sharing this valuable information.

Thank you so much for this video. I’ve been on the keto path for more than 6 months now and have reaped the benefits of weight loss and turning my A1c from 7.6 to 6.0. Of course my rapid victories have slowed a bit and I’ve been seeking out lots of information and ideas for food with hours and hours of watching keto TH-cam videos. This video is so grounding for me. I’ve decided I need to watch it whenever I’m feeling stalled and to guide me on this less traveled path.

So grateful Dr. Westman shares this life-changing info!
I would love to see a caveat added regarding reduction of hunger and cravings - if I thought 2 days was expected and ‘normal’ I would’ve given up thinking something was wrong!!
I did carnivore for a month then switched to Rx-strength Keto. It was a solid 2-3 weeks for the carb cravings to lower (still not totally gone after 3 months) and it took a couple months for the hunger start to dwindle. I’ve been consistently losing 2-3# per week - down 30# so far and feeling SO much better.
Just want to make sure people understand the cravings and hunger can persist a bit - hang in there!! It is absolutely worth it!!

Thank you so much for your videos.
You are so informative and I appreciate the way you explain things simple.
I’ve just recently found your videos, thanks to a talk you had with Dr. Ken Berry (an other MD I have great respect for) and I am so glad I’ve started following you as well. I am so impressed and appreciative for the information you provide.
    Again thank you so much.
I started my ketogenic journey about 10 months ago (thanks to a book written by a Dr named Robert Atkins and some internet research) and I will NEVER returning to the lifestyle I had before. Not a chance. I’ve never felt better. My body is lighter (I’ve lost weight) but my body and especially my stomach is even happier. I’ve more or less have had problems with heartburn, gastritis and ulcers all my adult life especially during autumn and winter season, these last month NONE. Winter is not over but nor is my ketogenic journey.
Your videos help me go from clarity to clarity. I felt in my heart and body I’m doing something right (that works for me) but your videos help me understand why. So THANK YOU MUCH.

Migrainfree, not sensitive to any trigger, focused. stopping doing them at all has literally worsen my whole life those past years. 😢I stopped during c*****9 period even if I've done it on and off with carnivore~ I think I was a bit depressed to cook in general cuz I have a very very high self-discipline and can easily dry fast and water fast for long periods of time. now that I discovered I am pre-diabetic I have the experience of those wonderful years and hope it will help my mood too

I know the lack of knowledge by "egg spurts" ... I was declared a T2D yet only having an hbA1C of 5.6 there was no cure, and I would be forever. Well, I have not had even a drop of exogenous insulin since April 9, 2018. While under their treatment (?) I was taking 60 units of 24-hour insulin and 10 units of fast-acting insulin 3x per day. I was having to snack on carbs just to keep my blood sugar up ... I saw for myself how stupid ... so I weaned myself off insulin ... WO doctor's supervision. I will need to give kudos to Dr Westman and Dr. Berry for the inspiration.

Lack of energy, trouble sleeping, is this normal adaptive symptoms? My dad, in his late 70s, has been a severe diabetic for decades but after I started doing keto last year, he saw my progress he started trying it. As of Today he is off all insulin and all medications - and his doctor was so impressed he gave a prescription for NOT being a diabetic and told him to talk to a nutritionist before he left his office.
They prescribed him pioglitazone - which I assume is to prevent ketoacidosis now that he is no longer on insulin. But, that prevents the body from making ketones from what I saw. He doesn’t want to take these meds. What do you know about this drug and how does it work or not work for severe diabetics who reverse their condition with keto?

    • @ruthmartinez1861
      @ruthmartinez1861 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Find a Doctor that does keto prescription lifestyle but everything that I have watched online says he doesn’t need the drugs. Sign up to the academy and they might tell you yes or no. Also Dr Barry has answered such questions in his private group. But yes it’s advised that you seek Medical counseling before stopping any medication. I personally start calling Doctors who take my insurance and understand what the ketogenic diet does to the body.

Unfortunately there are no keto doctors anywhere near us taking patients and with my dad being on Medicare he is limited with his choices. His doctor took him off all his meds due to his success with low carb diet but then gave this new prescription to block ketones. So he succeeded in getting off meds under doctors supervision but now that he is off, he prescribed a new med for being off his meds.
      Ironic.

He is type 2. I agree. I’m not a doctor but logically we don’t think it makes sense to go on this med. most likely he will refuse it and just go keto and meet with his diabetes doctor again in 3 months to see how successful he was at maintaining his sugar.

Dr. Westman, if a patient is on 20mg of blood pressure medicine and they have been taking their blood pressure in the morning when they wake up and their readings range from 118/79 - 130/74 - would that patient be ok to, as a trial, stop their medication to see what their blood pressure does with out it or would you say they are not quiet ready to stop taking it yet? Hypothetical situation ofc. This patient has not took their medication for two days already and this mornings ready was 118/74.

But seeing the numbers early on definitely gave me a sense of “being on the right track.” It also gave me a sense of how the concentrations vary over the course of a few days with multiple tests per day. Required? By no means. Interesting? Very. (The tests cost about $1 apiece; the monitor about $50)

I'm wearing a continuous ketone monitoring system and I find it very revealing. Coming back to a clean keto diet after several months of occasional cheating, I'm back into ketone mode, but, I see that I'm only entering ketosis during the day, especially after dinner. I know you are not strict about ketones, macros, etc, but I work better with fewer carbs and I need a certain control.
I follow an intermittent fasting protocol of a 16-hour fast, not more than 20 grams of net carbs, and my ketone level drops around 2 am and goes up and down during my sleep, usually under 0.5. All older women in my family are type 1 diabetics, not me... and the keto diet worked very well before. Any explanation about low ketones during sleep?
    Thank you.

    • @ketolomics
      @ketolomics 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Are you wearing a continuous glucose monitor? Hypothetically, if the ketone level falls, glucose would rise. This would happen, for example, if your blood sugar dropped low enough in the night to trigger release of glucose from your liver. You have a lot of factors in play - recent re-entry into keto, extended fasting between meals, family history f T1D. You might want to run it by a keto-experienced practitioner. If you are feeling well and just curious, you might try eating a keto meal in the evening just to see if that affects the pattern. The nice thing about having a keto-aware physician is having a PARTNER you can trust along your healthcare journey.

@racegrubb2152 plenty of lean people maintain their weight on keto - me included. It takes some getting used to, but definitely not a big challenge. The other health concerns you raise should be evaluated and monitored by a qualified, keto-knowledgeable practitioner. A lot of IBS sufferers have reported relief in keto/carnivore. The heart disease risk, though, could be due to a wide variety of causes that can only be sorted out via a competent evaluation - and the IBS symptoms could be wrapped up in it.
If you don’t have a local keto- experienced practitioner, check the keto websites for references to telemedicine practitioners out there (they would order your lab work for you at a local lab and then do the consultation over Zoom). Best wishes for success!!

Is it just me or is Dr westman's hair getting thicker as he gets older? I've been watching some of his earlier videos from years ago and his hair was thinning. Now his hair looks so thick and healthy like Brad Pitt in an army movie. Lol

I've been low carb for 2y 2m and cut my own hair. I have noticed that whereas what ended up on the plastic sheet used to be very light, now it is a lot darker. Another commented said that hers has gone darker and that her husband's chest hair has gone darker too. Prior to low carb my hair was starting to get thin (I'm female) and I'm hoping that it will start to thicken now I'm metabolically healthy. I'm 66.

@@jobrown8146 I take 10,000 IUDs of biotin everyday. It really helps. And yes my hair has gotten darker too. Weird as a blonde person. But I throw some bleach in there about once every 3 months.

So if carbs are bad, why then do humans have the digestive enzyme mylase that breaks down starch into glucose? True carnivore animals (not domesticated dogs) don't have this.

Not strictly on Keto. Carbs around 50 to 60g per day, so have not achieved ketosis, but fine with that. Macronutrients roughly 20% carbs, 60% fat, 20% protein. No sugar. Carbs only vegetables, so because of fibre not blood sugar spikes. Sugar down from 5.7 (inside diabetes 2 range) to 4.5. Joint pains and inflamation gone, energy way up, and mind crystal clear. Walk 7km each morning. Feel great. So I guess their is a place for "lower carbs" too. Lost 7kg. On ideal weight and weight don't hump all over the place anymore😊

Search Dr Westman page 4. It's just one sheet of paper. Basically meat as much as you want and no more than 2 cups green veg a day. Limit added fats. Zero calorie drinks (including pop) is fine
