However things are generally more expensive in Somaliland as it's not an industrialized country and almost everything gets imported.

Somaliland is a beautiful, safe and democratic country.. Hargeisa is the capital and largest city and Berbera is the most prominent coastal city. Do not forget to visit it.. 1 dollar equals 8,850 shillings
Welcome man ❤
It's not democratic any more. The election in Somaliland should have been held in November 2023 and a new president is supposed to take command, but the old president Muse that should have been ousted is still in power. Somaliland has it's elections every 5 years . Now Muse is demanding 2 additional years as president. Muse want to be a dictator because because he served is 5 years term as president Muse and still wants 2 additional years in total he demanding 7 years but this position he's taking is leading Somaliland to be a dictatorship. Once he gets that 7 years he's gone demand more even by force. Somaliland is done for if Muse gets what he wants, but the people are good and welcome individuals.
@@Kenya-Kikuyu
But still better than a no election countries like Eritrea
Democratic !!!!! 😂😂😂😂 why is the president still stuck to the chair and not leaving 😂😂 he got you’ll by the throat hushhhh boy
Democratic 😂😂😂😂
@@mekhonetay Its not that fact that is better than Eritrea but the fact to which Somaliland boast its Democratic. When it failed to have an election during its election season in 2023. While the resident in Somaliland are requesting an election but the late residing president is some how hold Somaliland hostage and requesting 2 more additional years while he already had a 5 year term as an president. There people now deciding to flee Somaliland before it get to the point of war.

Eritrea was a disappointment, I hope you guys do something to improve the situation in your country.
@@mekhonetayNever going to happen. Eritrea should not even exist. Its just a arbitrary legacy of Italian colonialism. Thats all Eritrea ever have amounted to. You cannot build a nation on the basis of false foundations layed out by your conquerors. Eritrea is better of uniting with northern Ethiopia on the basis of their people's common national identity.

Compared to Eritrea, a country under a repressive regime for more than 30 years, Somali land is doing by far better in terms of economic development, infrastructure, trade, and living standards. But Eritrea is a country recognized by UN member countries, whereas Somaliland is aspiring to be a country and is not recognized as a country by a single UN member country.
As an Eritrean, i sometime ask myself, what is a greater curse. Having to be under a ruthlessly despotic and criminal regime, or having to share my country with regime supporting chearleaders.
@@heruy8274you are agame just lieb him you guys should care for the starving people in Tigray instead of talking about Eritrea here deki sharamut 🤫

Eritrea had a lot more grounds for recognition than Northwest Somalia. Same with South Sudan. You have to be a whole Nother ethnicity to have a valid reason to separate and you guys don’t have that.

Somaliland isn't even an internationally recognised sovereign country, yet looks far better than Eritrea🤷♀️.
have u even been too Eritrea too make that statement?
Most of your comments are negative. Get a job
@eritreashikor1991 Just pointing out the differences in the leadership (or, lack of it in Eritrea's case).
Eritrea: an internationally recognised country, and yet zero progress. In fact, regressed 100 years. Eritrea hasn't had an election in almost 35 years.
The government refused to issue passports to the citizens, thereby forced to flee their country illegally through dangerous seas😔.
Somaliland: internationally unrecognised as a sovereign country but had 5 elections in 34 years, has own currency, and issues own passport💁♀️.
While Somaliland is progressing forward, Eritrea is regressing backwards. While high-rise buildings going up in Somaliland cities, Eritrean building are crumbling down, looking like an ancient ruins site.

CAIRO: The League of Arab States and the Arab Parliament have voiced support for the Somali government in condemning a controversial deal between Ethiopia and Somaliland. The Arab League said that the memorandum of understanding violated Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He said that the Arab League supports the decision of the Somali Cabinet, which rejected the memorandum of understanding signed on Jan. 1, between Ethiopia and Somaliland as “null and void and unacceptable.”

Even though Somali land is not a recognised country it is by far better than Eritrea in many respects,
You are literally all over the comment section comparing Eritrea and Somaliland when no one has asked you for your opinion. There was even an Eritrean giving compliments to somaliland and you still felt the need to give hate comments to Eritrea. We are not even neighboring countries and you are so dependent on Eritrea. We already know people from Somaliland hate Eritreans but calm down
@@Aaa-iz2bh
First of all I don’t need anyone to invite me to put a silly comment, your insecurities are prevalent instead take care of your country and have a shame trying to defend the indefensible, Eritrea is a disappointment even to its citizens have nothing to offer but misery and shame, so you have a lot to do to make your country a normal country like any other country.
@@mekhonetay The fact that you say that my eritrean people have nothing to offer but misery and shame just proves my previous comment correct. The people from Somaliland are evil and racists that hate Eritreans.
@@mekhonetay Are you Ethiopian or Somali?

Love your videos
Yo, You in Hargeisa, I am from ATL, visiting Hargeisa as well doing some NGO work. hit me up with where you at will come and meet up !!!
Last year 1 US dollar was about 8500 Somaliland shilling. It was around that for the last 4 years at least. It doesn't change much. I think the Somalia shilling value online is false. It's worth less than Somaliland's shilling. I remember couple of years ago it hit 1 US dollar= 40,000 Somali shilling. The country basically just trades in dollars for anything greater than 10 dollars.
Maamus hotel is nice , and you should visit Golden hotel its right next door they make good indian food.
I suggest their veggie curry
FYI 1 USD is equal to 8,600 Shillings I believe they sell it at 8,700 but buy it at 8,600.
Anyways $10 should get you 86,000 $20 should get you 172,000. Just take the dollar amount and multiply by 8600. Try to pay in shillings if you can
It used to be 10000 SLSH for dollar 😂
@@GuNa-z3uThat means it’s going in the right direction, right? Am I missing something?
Just for the Record. Hargeysa is a Northwestren region in Somalia . The whole country called The Land of Somalis = Somali land.
You are dreaming 😂
Currently the exchage rate is: 1 = 8750 slsh. So the price of the floss was about almost 0.7 USD
SOMALILAND IS OPENED TO ALL ALSO TOURISM IS ON THE UP HAVE A GREAT STAY BROTHER 💚⚪️❤️
Hey Sly. Do you collect currencies?
I do. I buy some at every airport.
I definitely want to buy some of that somaliland currency
Rubbish notes that only work in Northwest Somalia.
Any Somali-lander in your community can give you some Somaliland shillings. They usually have some lying around the house after returning from visits to their relatives. The diaspora is spread across Europe and North America.
And the note money doesn't work anywhere ouside side of the region . Not even rest of somalia and neighboring countries like ethiopia, Jibouti and virtually anywhere else.
That’s how money usually works, genius 😂
@@Hayesaxib what works are you nuts or what? It doesn't work anywhere. It's worthless and fake money circulating in the region in poor population which they collect their dollars. If I have an ethiopia birr money or Djiboutu franc and go to Nairobi or anywhere else in the world , their banks will change on the spot and same thing to Kenyan Shilling if I go to Addis Or Jibouti or anywhere.in the world. But if have your papers I have to put the garapage asa I cross to Ethiopian, Keyan Jiboutian boders because nobody will accept it is has no value and worhless fake money .

why did you name Somaliland an invisible country

@@munahaybe6749 No he stated that "Somaliland had there own passports different then Somalia passport" and that needed clarification.

Judging from the comments, either the receipt is wrong or you got over charged? Apparently 6000 shillings is less than a dollar which would make sense for little pack of floss.
No it's not apparently 500 shilling is a dollar in Somalia's currency. Where's a dollar is 200 in Somaliland's currency. $6000 is about $11 dollars in Somali shilling but idk how much it is equivalent in Somaliland shilling. (Since I haven't been to Somaliland since 2015) My mom's side of the family lives in Khatumo State which used to be part of Somaliland until they kicked them out last year and declared their own separate autonomous government, seeking unity with Somalia. (That was the war the guy was talking about in his video) but in Khatumo they don't use Somalia or Somaliland currency anymore. You either pay digitally or have to use American dollars
