About Lea Salonga, there is something special about her: the voice, the face, the body language as she performs can make me tear up no matter what the song. Not many other singers can do that. I ❤ her...

The song that she sang "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" is from the musical Evita, which tells the story of Eva Perón, the former First Lady of Argentina. The song is sung by Eva at the balcony of the Casa Rosada to the people of Argentina. It was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice and first recorded by Julie Covington in 1976. Lea Salonga performed the song in her Broadway Concert DVD in 2002 and in other live concerts. You can listen to her rendition of the song on TH-cam or on Genius. She gets to the core meaning of any song . The clarity of the emotion is just perfect. You’re right. She slows down to savor the nuances of the song . Btw, her brother was conducting the orchestra.

Such a beautiful song, but kind of sad. Gorgeous voice. Lea Salonga is a Filipina singer, actress, columnist, and producer who is known for her roles in musical theatre, for supplying the singing voices of two Disney Princesses (Jasmine and Mulan), and as a recording artist and television performer¹. She is also a Disney Legend and a recipient of numerous awards, including a Tony Award, an Olivier Award, and a Presidential Merit Award. She was born on February 22, 1971, in Manila, Philippines, to a naval rear admiral and a homemaker¹. She began her singing career at the age of ten, when she recorded her first album, Small Voice. She has performed for various dignitaries and royalty, including six Philippine presidents, three American presidents, Princess Diana, and Queen Elizabeth II.

I am really happy you appreciate Lea's talent, but please get your facts straight:
Lea's name is pronounced *LAY-ah* (not LEE-ah). She is not "basically American." She has not been living in America for a long time - she lives in the Philippines. She has worked in America a lot over the years and has lived in America for periods of time (when she has been on Broadway, her runs have lasted between a few months to almost a year), but the majority of her life she has lived in the Philippines. There are people who speak English very well who are not from America and don't live in America.
