Another hint that instantly comes to my mind is: Explore everywhere during both day and night, especially towns, because some NPCs are not present during both time periods.
Start with Hikari for the best time, Ochette is another good choice. Make sure to explore the area outside of new Delsta, it will unlock a new job class for you. It has a passive skill called “A step ahead”, it’s stupidly good, allowing you to begin battle with an extra turn before the enemies. Recruit Partitio early and use his hire ability to get an NPC that gives discounts while buying or bonus while selling, always have Partitio in the party when buying or selling, it will save you a ton of leaves in the long run.
Big grinding tip: all accessories stack and abilities with different names will stack. Extra Exp (scholar), Hard Worker (dancer), Life in the Shadows (thief) will stack together for huge EXP and JP growth. Stick them on your overleveled main character with an EXP Booster and Cait accessory and you'll have your B team outpacing your A team in no time.
"Despite its name it does not grow on trees" got a good laugh out of me. There's actually a quest with in game lore on why are called leaves! A perfect example of the depth of OT2s world.
Named after silver leaf. I don't know why they didn't just say silvers or simply coins. EDIT: The silver leaf as currency was mentioned by Roque in Partitio's chapter 1 flashback. However if you do the Scent of Commerce sidequest in Sai you get to read a bunch of backstory lore. There was a plant called erbweed whose leaves were essential to medicine. It was being mass produced in lots of regions with volatile prices until they all decided to standardize it as a stable commodity. So the term leaf as money refers to the erbweed leaf.
Oddly enough it isn't named after silver leaf at all. Here is the ingame explanation of it: "Erbweed: a miraculous plant required to craft every variety of healing herb. Its discovery revolutionized medicine and has saved innumerable lives, earning it the epithet "the plant of the gods." Unfortunately, erbweed is notoriously difficult to cultivate, and only grows natively in a few limited regions. Because of this, as the apothecary art advanced, so too did the value and rarity of this irreplaceable ingredient. Eventually, this caused its price to spiral out of control. To curb this growing problem, various lands put ministers or lords in charge of overseeing erbweed production and trade, and soon the price of each precious leaf was fixed. This stability eventually led merchants, commoners, and nobles alike to begin using leaves in place of other currencies. Disputable though this is, it is widely believed that the origin of "leaf" as common parlance for currency originates from this time."
I actually found money easy to come by, especially if you get partition to hire an NPC that boosts your sales right before you sell all the items you got with throne or agnea
I think Hikari has the hardest hitting move early game. I think its called vengeful strike. If an enemy hits you with a melee attack, he automatically retaliates without missing his turn for like 5x normal damage.
Team Osvald! In OT 1 I was so glad I picked Alfyn, concoct was pretty useful then, but not near as useful as it is in OT2. Plus, he was good at being an all-arounder for the party, if I needed melee, heals, or magic, he could play any class well. I'm still early on in OT2, but really enjoying it. It's so beautiful
I love this game, my GOTY so far, such an amazing adventure. Some tips I have: - Make sure your B team is up to snuff with your A team. Don't let them slack. - Concoction is amazing, dare I say, broken, don't ignore using Castti - Always check NPCs to hire with Partitio, some will provide discounts with purchases, and other crazy stuff I won't spoil Thanks for the vid, David
I am near the end of the game now and I haven’t used concoction once. What’s so special about it other than it looks like it heals health and sp? I was hoping for some damage concoctions.
I’m glad that I started with Hikari because having him always present on the team means he’s a much higher level than the rest of the team whom I’m sharing quests with evenly because some on his learned skills are deadly. Add to that that warrior has break damage limit and it’s a win win always using him. I’m about to the point where I have to do all of their last chapters and I’ve explored areas below danger level 40s and so far the game is fun and a worthwhile adventure that any classic JRPG fan should play.
Hmm started with Throne because I love stealing from the npcs. I guess it's sort of the same with entreat. Also Throne can get the Inventor class very early which allows for really really really fast xp grinding with the large aoe attack that is available early.
I don't care what anyone says, but Tenemos is such an amaing support with his healing. Take the dancer' divine skill with his cleric abilities and he just pretty much saves your team from dying(Like Saving Grace). Yeah, he's my main that I chose and I don't regret it one bit. Not even 70 hours in, and I still keep finding things to do.
Tenemos was easily my favourite story out of all the characters. Just such a very witty and not your typical religious figure that we usually see in RPGs. I love that he questions everything.
I like to make him a scholar as his side job because he’s so investigative. In OPI I made my cleric take warrior as her side job bc she felt like more of a Paladin. I love how unique the characters are in this one. The stories feel more interesting so far.
I recommend that everyone takes advantage of Ochettes skills, especially before reaching the bigger levels, the monsters she can capture can be more powerful than your entire team.
I picked Ochette as my main simply because I thought she looked the coolest. Turns out I picked the strongest character. Her exclusive skill provoke beasts is absolutely insane. With Double shot / Double Cleave ect she could single handedly break the shields of super bosses with 10 shield points.
@@warpuppy4528 she is S tier but the strongest in the game is Hikari with having the highest physical and elemental damage dealer while also being able to learn more skills than any other character
@@globalsaturation7333 Do base stats of characters make that much of a difference? I feel like everyone is fairly similar and how hard they can hit mostly depends on your equipment. Are there really more NPC abilities than monster abilities in the game?
@@warpuppy4528 na , the base stats difference is very minimal so I wouldn’t pay attention to it at all . From what I’ve seen there’s like 60-70 different learned moves , some very broken and op ones as well
I started with Hikari as my main. This worked excellently, as I'd challenge anyone who had the multi enemy targeting skills. Now at everyone's ch 4s and he's OP and can carve through bosses. I love using his counterattack move when he gets hit (and he almost always gets hit) and "returns your wrath twofold" for big dmg + shield breaking regardless of weakness.
Picked castti for my main character. Before playing octopath traveler 2, I played triangle strategy and took great interest in Medina as an apothecary, then picked castti knowing they are the same. Currently on the first chapters of the characters, will try to explore first due to your suggestions and exploit more the townspeople. 😁 Thank you.
Ochette is a great way to make money early. Her Capture ability allows you to catch and cook monsters for food that sell for quite a bit of money. Boosted Mercy Strike makes it easier to catch them.
I started with Merchant and loved him! You start off really close to Agnea so you get access to her skills very early in your story! Awesome video btw :)
Ochette is BROKEN. She carried me from early to late game for my starting party. Capture/Beast Lore is so powerful before you can glitch it with her EX skill. Get a Salamander from her starting area and build from there. I'm 80+ hours in and I'm torn because I don't want it to be over but I desperately want to see the ending.
I keep looking for “early game” videos… I’m 40 hours in and I’m barely through everyone’s chapter 2. The “early game” videos are talking about stuff I’m no where near yet lol. And if it was any other game I’d be intimidated but I am SO excited that I still have so much to look forward to. This is game of the year so far, I can’t put it down and even when I have to, I’m thinking about it and what I’ll do next and where I’ll go next and new strats. Which is great for me, not so great for me job but that’s fine lol. Even the grinding is fun and addictive.
Olberic was an amazing first choice in the first game because you could fearlessly fight NPCs and rest at the inn for free. Once he got strong, I added Therion and next Cyrus to get access to loads of free stuff that could be sold eliminating $ from ever mattering. About to start the 2nd game and I think I might try this formula again.
You and me, we think the same. About to start with Hikari, get Throné and Osvald to borrow things both at day and night and then add either healer. Considering the other teammembers, probably better Temenos. Despite Castti being individually a better character than him, she wouldn't really fit with the rest of the party if you look at overlapping path actions. Also consider this: Throné passively buffs the party at the start of battles during nighttime and Temenos debuffs enemies at night. Perfect synergy.
Point 4 makes me wanna say Hikari is my second favorite Blue Mage (just behind MegaMan.exe from the Mega Man Battle Battle Network series). My general problem with Blue Mages was how they felt too random or guide reliant to unlock their abilities, which sucks because copying monster abilities sounds awesome. Hikari just needing to win a 1v1 sounds a lot better for me, plus the idea of learning moves on sight sounds cooler than just using magic.
I also started with Agnea! She can get pretty early on an npc that lets her heal hp and sp with her dances!! So she can be both a healer, an sp battery AND a stat booster all at once!!
With Agnea and Ochette working together using provoke beasts and I think it was called windy refrain, you could keep any boss stun locked forever as long as you knew their weakness.
I got a all hitting move with Hikari. Two actually, it’s also a double hit attack as well when used. One is for swords and the other is with spears. As long as I got sp, most mobs go down with little to no effort. He’s also my starting character.
Leaves are incredibly easy to get if you explore the map as you mentioned in your video. I have so much money and haven’t even sold a single item (currently have a team of level 50’s)
I started with the merchant and I really like his play style, you have to steal a lot so you can get a lot of leaves and use his action path to hire merchant so you can buy the items super cheap or sell your items a bit more expensive.
I was really critical about the game. I picked it up last friday and couldn't put it down since. The only thing I would critize that I really like a big plot instead of 8 separate stories but I still liked it a lot. I loved the article from "the creationist" tha we're in the second golden age of jrpgs
Thanks for the tips David! One of these days I'll get around to playing OPT1 and OPT2. It's tough but I am trying to knock out some of my backlog before purchasing new games.
OPT1 was a nice one for me in between games. It has chapters with pretty rounded up stories and there's a nice recap at the beginning. But the backlog is an ever growing monster, so good luck with that!
One of the strongest skills Hikari can learn is “Resting, resting.” It costs 1 SP but it heals both HP AND SP. It allows him to easily take on enemies that are above his weight class fairly easily and keep him stocked up on SP, allowing him to burn through some other of his powerful skills.
I really want to get this game I've been a little short on the funds so I haven't gotten yet but I'm happy that you did this this it really pushes me over the edge to want to get it
What an amazing game. Not quite perfect, but they're almost there in terms of perfection for these games. So I can not wait for Octopath Traveller III, which if they improve on a number of features and add even more content to future entries, we could very well be witnessing the next big franchise for Square Enix. Easily a top contender for GOTY at this moment.
Yep, this game is still my GOTY so far. There are so many combos that can make any character the best character. Hikari with Warmaster, Agnea with her latent power and Inventor class, Cassi and concoct in general, Partitio with his latent power thief's Aebers Reckoning on first turn, Ochette with provoke and her ultimate skill in general becomes Ash Ketchum's wet dream, etc. I haven't even finished it yet but can't wait to start over with a different main and see how far I can go solo. Very few games nowadays have replay value let alone make you want to play it again.
Great video! I think starting off with the demo is a good way to sample all the characters without getting too heavily invested. Agnea is a solid first draft though. 🙂
Finally finished octopath 1 and just started 2. Started off with the dancer like you suggested because bewildering grace is my favorite ability. Not even joking my first battle after unlocking bewildering grace and first try popping it at full boost and i got EXP 100x ON THE 4TH AND FINAL EFFECT! Straight to level 15.
Fantastic video. I’m a bit of a simp, so I have an all male team, which means I’ve no money problem thanks to the merchant. Also, simpness aside, the merchant is incredibly overpowered. He takes money, gives bp, produces extra Jp in battles AND can heal his own health and sp for free!!! Oh, and how could I forget, his special grants him full stacked bp! He is a monster!
Leaves kind of do grow on trees though, as soon as you get a merchant to learn their divine skill, you have access to a powerful attack that gives you money equal to the damage that you do. When I finished the game I had like 200,000 leaves and nothing to spend it on.
My big things I wish I knew were getting the inventor job for step ahead, learning where the exp/jp boosting accessories are, understanding that the elemental boosts on weapons stack also don't need to be the held weapon in battle to be active(example my osvald is a warrior with the fire boosting sword and spear but when I attack I hold the staff so I get fire boosts and the highers ele atk), and the ochette glitch.
Absolutely GOTY. 70 hrs in and I’m kind of sad it’s close to being over. Agnea though, excellent choice. A great skill for her is latent power with the merchant skill Arrow of Fortune. You can rack up some quick JP.
If you can manage to get the lvl 4 passive merchant ability with her early ish, you'll start every battle with maxed out latent power too. So you can use that every battle!
I had to start with Osvald. While all the stories seemed interesting to me, Osvald's seemed the most interesting. I'm a sucker for a good revenge story lol
For number 2, do not buy gear or sell any gear. Some gear helps later even if they are weakish (does more fire damage). Hikari can hit both caps before anyone else and near the end can do nearly 400k for about 30 mp.
I’m really glad I watched this, I literally just got my first 4 characters. And thought ok so what now? Well I guess I’ll Go do the chapter 2 of my main castti, but I really wasn’t sure if that’s what was supposed to happen. Now I know hold off and get everyone else. Thanks man! Great videos btw 😎
Just started these game and my first main is the scholar guy I pick him first because he has abilty that reveal enemy weakness, which i find it very useful I'm at chapter 2 after i beat the warden boss The first boss really hit hard but thankfully i was cautious type and grind my character and Emerald up to lvl 8 before fighting him and learn the lightning magic
Nah, this isn't a late upload, it's just that you were giving everyone a chance to go in blind. Yep, that's what it is xD Still, always appreciate these tip videos!
You can save soulstones vs caits and octopuffs by boosting hikari's crit spear attack. Use donate bp boost and kill the cait with a 100% hit/crit spear move.
Nice video, am now gonna start part 1 before I get 2 tell me something, when you choose a character to play with & recruit other characters, when you play a new story with a different character do you have to level up other characters from scratch or will they have that same level??
Agnea can steal from everyone or collect from everyone with full latent ability and 3 bp . Do they on each grind and you’ll have all the items / money you need
Agree with Agatha as starter if I can remember her name right This game shocked me by how good everything is Barely starting and already one of best games I played in long Time hitting it in every area
I was never hurting for money in the game. I grabbed and stole everything from everyone. And before you knew it I didn't know what to do with my money.
I just bought this game to practice playing crpg games. I have never ever played turn based. lol 😂I am in preparation to play baldurs gate 3…. I hope by then I will be skilled enough to play baldurs gate
Wish I knew that the level gap from chapter 1 to chapter 2 would be big & that even being the recommended level for an area, the enemies still decimate u with just 2-3 hits. I'm playing as Throne & was doing fine til I got to a lv14 area & getting destroyed, even tho I'm lv15. Are u suppose to do each character's chapter solo, or do u get another character to join? Tho, I don't see how they'd go about accounting for another character joining ur individual chapter
Any tips trying to stay alive while exploring? I keep getting into random attacks on my own with very little health. Kind of stuck as I can’t get far without keep dying.. Run out of potions.
Ok. Can anyone help me out? It's absolutely driving me nuts that there is no way to sort or organize my accessories. I feel like I could in the first octopath. But I can't remember. It really puts a damper on my mood when I reoutfit my party when I swap them around and I have to slowly go through each accessory to see what they do. I can't believe there is no way to organize them.
Agnea cna only steal at night, you need another one for day as some npc are only around at one time of day Hunters can not summon beasts, only ochette can. Most Ex skills from shrines are so bad, I never used one of im my whole playthrough. The better ones you get after completing characters final chapters.
I'm new to this game so forgive me. I completed Throne' chapter 1. How do I move on from here? The bartender isn't offering any tales and I can't seem to select another character on the map. I don't know how to continue in the game.
why does no one acknowledges the random enemy encounters is like is a big thing annoying but nobody talks about it? anyway to reduce them or eliminate them completely????

That's who I just started playing as Hikari
Specifically about Ochette, capture monsters that double hit all enemies with each of the respective weapon types and you'll be in very good shape.

I really want to get this game I've been a little short on the funds so I haven't gotten yet but I'm happy that you did this this it really pushes me over the edge to want to get it
@@punani_slayer4209 that was over a year ago I already have the game
What an amazing game. Not quite perfect, but they're almost there in terms of perfection for these games. So I can not wait for Octopath Traveller III, which if they improve on a number of features and add even more content to future entries, we could very well be witnessing the next big franchise for Square Enix.
Easily a top contender for GOTY at this moment.
What improvements do you wish for?
Took Osvald & am really enjoying it so far. He's a beast
simply the best game this year, the story and the gameplay awesome
Yep, this game is still my GOTY so far. There are so many combos that can make any character the best character. Hikari with Warmaster, Agnea with her latent power and Inventor class, Cassi and concoct in general, Partitio with his latent power thief's Aebers Reckoning on first turn, Ochette with provoke and her ultimate skill in general becomes Ash Ketchum's wet dream, etc. I haven't even finished it yet but can't wait to start over with a different main and see how far I can go solo. Very few games nowadays have replay value let alone make you want to play it again.
Good video, thanks! I’m about to start playing it.
I was just going to start the game up this weekend, thanks for the tips!
Have fun!
Starting playing this tonight after not really being able to get into the first one. Damn near 12 hours later, I think I finally get it.
My starter character with Hikari being second.
Square truly cut no corners. The whole game is a masterpiece.
@@EdreesesPieces Full power and boost start abilities. Yes. Other major stacks for her are HP Thief and Mystical Cane.
I had to start with Osvald. While all the stories seemed interesting to me, Osvald's seemed the most interesting. I'm a sucker for a good revenge story lol
60 hours into the game, I discovered that you can run/speed walk. Not a joke.
For number 2, do not buy gear or sell any gear. Some gear helps later even if they are weakish (does more fire damage).
Hikari can hit both caps before anyone else and near the end can do nearly 400k for about 30 mp.
I started with partitio and so far i am happy
I’m really glad I watched this, I literally just got my first 4 characters. And thought ok so what now? Well I guess I’ll
Go do the chapter 2 of my main castti, but I really wasn’t sure if that’s what was supposed to happen.
Now I know hold off and get everyone else. Thanks man! Great videos btw 😎
Thanks so much my friend, I appreciate it!
Just started these game and my first main is the scholar guy
I pick him first because he has abilty that reveal enemy weakness, which i find it very useful
I'm at chapter 2 after i beat the warden boss
The first boss really hit hard but thankfully i was cautious type and grind my character and Emerald up to lvl 8 before fighting him and learn the lightning magic
Pimp dat B out caught me off guard😂😭😭😭😭
Hunter in part 1. Loved her. Just got this. Not sure who to start with...
God damn the women in this game mixed with that artstyle is something else.
Nah, this isn't a late upload, it's just that you were giving everyone a chance to go in blind. Yep, that's what it is xD
Still, always appreciate these tip videos!
This game is amazing
I like Hikari as my main tank...
Vengeful + incite make healing soo easy in the lower levels
Agreed agnea is the best. Especially with her path ability
You can save soulstones vs caits and octopuffs by boosting hikari's crit spear attack. Use donate bp boost and kill the cait with a 100% hit/crit spear move.
*youtube notifies me*... I see you
@@Ghalion666 do you have to max boost that spear attack in order for it to hit them? When I've tried something similar, they almost always miss.
@@8bpianoplayer i think so. All I know is it nevet missed for me once at max boost.
I played OT2 with hikari as my main character. What a journey
I'll have to watch this one later. I'm still trying to work through Octopath 1. Is it just me or is the leveling wonky?
Nice video, am now gonna start part 1 before I get 2 tell me something, when you choose a character to play with & recruit other characters, when you play a new story with a different character do you have to level up other characters from scratch or will they have that same level??
Agnea can steal from everyone or collect from everyone with full latent ability and 3 bp . Do they on each grind and you’ll have all the items / money you need
Agree with Agatha as starter if I can remember her name right
This game shocked me by how good everything is
Barely starting and already one of best games I played in long Time hitting it in every area
How come i cant complete side quests?!?! Everyones dialogue is always red and it doesnt let me turn in!!
Capture Caits there SOOOOO GOOD
throne has BY FAR the best Story!!
the worst one was Casttie...
1 Throne
2 osvald
3 Ochette
4 HIkari
5 Agnea
6 Partitio
7 Temenos
8 Castti
Money is easy with Partitio. Hundreds of thousands from enemies
No love for Ochette? 😢 She can get access to all weapons and spells just like Hikari.
“PIMP THAT $&@!? OUT!!!” LMAO.
Very helpful. 🐒🎮
Wish I had a handheld to play this.
I found leaves very easy to get.. I could buy most things and still have lots of old stuf without selling...
I know that with partitio you cak steal from the kates if you have 5 points of pt. You'll the' have 100% chance to be able to steal from them
Any tips trying to stay alive while exploring? I keep getting into random attacks on my own with very little health. Kind of stuck as I can’t get far without keep dying.. Run out of potions.
Which one shows the enemies HP? Dayum
Yeah I had to learn to just explore the map the hard way😅
I am burming out on chrone cross, home world, another world shifting seems just to lengthen te game. But will push on.
Agnea cna only steal at night, you need another one for day as some npc are only around at one time of day
Hunters can not summon beasts, only ochette can.
Journey to their towns and you’ll access their stories. If you started with Throne, Temenos is your closest bet
Yup, just walk to the next town all the way across to get the 8 characters then hit the deeper chapters. It's exactly like the first game.
Throné is my main she's broooooken I have her with either hunter or apothecary jobs
why does no one acknowledges the random enemy encounters is like is a big thing annoying but nobody talks about it? anyway to reduce them or eliminate them completely????
Osvald has a passive skill that reduces them
