In this video, I will demonstrate to you, how to build IKEA furniture to make it last forever! If you utilize my special techniques and use Bob Smith Industries (BSI) "Insta-cure", water thin CA glue and Insta-Set accelerator, during your IKEA furniture assembly, it will never fail. Most IKEA furniture is made with laminated particle board, which is very fragile, especially when you are screwing in posts and dowels with nothing to hold them in. No other type of glue will soak into particle board or other woods as deeply as water-thin Cyanoacrylate, it binds the wood fibers into an incredibly strong matrix, at least ten-times deeper and stronger! This type of glue is also known as: Crazy Glue, Krazy Glue, Cyanoacrylate or CA glue. I will be showing you every step in assembling the Alex drawer Unit (or any other IKEA furniture) using CA to make it extremely strong and last forever. This video clearly demonstrates the weaknesses in IKEA "shipped-flat" furniture connections and every step required to make it strong, not flimsy, and make it survive under daily use and high stresses. Using CA and my unique techniques, will fix all of the problems that are inherent with IKEA furniture, except maybe the dismal instructions!

I have used super glue for many years to glue small things but never thought about it soaking in and reinforcing wood fibers etc. Thanks for the educational video.

Hi! New sub here! Very interesting and informative video!
But how many CA (and activator) bottles did you used for that entire drawer?
It is still wort it compared to the standard wood glue?
    Greetings from Italy!

I am in Australia and purchasing the products you use from the USA is expensive. Do you have any suggestions for what I need to search for CA glue and the fast setting product. I have subscribed.

Thank you for your comment and question, I've only been able find water-thin CA from BSI and that's the only type I use, along with the BSI accelerator. David Riddle

Hi Dave. Have you ever used petroleum jelly on the nozzle tip to prevent glue build up?

    • @HowToHomeLife
      @HowToHomeLife  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Thank you for comment and question, no, I have not tried your suggestion, I would be concerned with contaminating the glue joint with the petroleum jelly. I simply flex the tip of the Teflon tube and the CA breaks away, nothing sticks to Teflon! David Riddle

Great technique, Iwould love to know the percentage of people that are able to put together an Ikea draw without any damage, It would have to be under %50, and some are simply not able to. I do this with epoxy, it also helps when putting it together, due to the bad quality wood just getting chewed if you really want to tighten it. epoxy its abit overkill, doesnt set as fast and doesnt soak into wood as CA. I will def give it a go, great idea. If I can make one recommendation, yes we love ideas that work, but people watch videos alot more that show how and why the alternative fails and breaks, they want to see those joints fail. Like on project Farms for example, if it didnt show the failures of products they wont be viewed as much. By hanging a certain amount of weight to the tabs or screws and later the total draw. Think of myth busters, if every myth was concluded with a success, why watch. We love drama, give it to us pls :)

Dave, another reason that IKEA furniture is weak is because people use a Phillips head screwdriver to assemble it.
IKEA does NOT use Phillips head screws on anything. They use almost exclusively pozi-drive.
If you use a pozi-drive screwdriver instead of a Phillips, you’ll find that you can tighten the fasteners better without camming or stripping out.

Thank you for your comment and suggestion to utilize the proper tools, but adding water-thin cyanoacrylate to lock the fragile wood fibers of particle board into an extremely ridged piece of furniture. David Riddle

Great work and concept. The only issue is that most people are WAY too busy to spend the time to do this. With all of the things vying for our time, this is something we will promise ourselves we will do, only to repeatedly relegate to the back burner.

I think most people would want to spend a little extra time and have a long lasting piece of furniture. Most people who buy IKEA items want a solid piece of furniture but cannot afford it. This method makes the IKEA many times stronger.

The superglue technique demonstrated here is obviously superior, but if you are lazy like me, you can do like me and just glue in the wood dowels with wood glue. I have 10 dining room chairs and two kitchens I have done like this, which is still solid and wobble free after 13 years.

Nothing can make ikea furniture last forever. Except leaving it on the store shelf maybe…
