"Nobody knows for sure"....The bottom debris is the remains of the scaffolding structure that lined the silo walls and surrounded the missile for the launch/lift system.

Hello Abilene , TX. Yea my Dad retired USAF ,also Happy Birthday USAF . We lived at Dyess AFB for 3 years before my Dad retired in 1973 I believe and moved to Texarkana, Texas in 1974 . Yea I remember during that time me and some friends went and visited a Missile Silo out on San Angelo highway from what I remember , I believe we had to climb a fence and then we went down a ventilation shaft . Seems like we went down 3 or 4 stories until we came to water , man this place was HUGE , but it was a pretty cool experience , of course my Dad never new about this . I was probably 16 or 17 and i'm now 58 . Loved it Abilene .

Great video! I dove that silo many years ago. The T shirt doesn’t fit anymore but I still have it, lol. (Divers who have made this dive know what T shirt I’m referring to.)
