This song has nothing to do with the war...it's more about being dragged down by obsessive dark thoughts.
But "Home Back" (Official Music Video) is an incredibly powerful & creative anti-war song & video inspired by their experiences during & since the 2014 annexation of Crimea & conflict with Russian-backed separatist militias in eastern Ukraine, which is where they're from. You should definitely react to it.

I've always been a Floyd/Rush fan and never liked growl/scream metal. Jinjer was so much like Floyd and Rush that I couldn't stop listening to the instrumentals, but Tatiana's amazing quality screams and growls were so beautiful to me, I was amazed. I never thought I'd like that kind of thing, but Jinjer is truly mind altering.

The song is about intrusive thoughts. Think about laying down in bed, not able to fall asleep because your thoughts are spinning out of control, becoming this monstrosity that impacts your life in a negative way. I think there's an element of anxiety in this as well, as some of the lyrics are the equivalent of someone wearing a mask in public, which is very typical for people with mental issues, trying to look normal towards others. Their war related song is Home Back, but there's a few other ones that are related to Ukraine & Russia. Opeth is one of their many influences & one of the favorite bands of the bassist, Eugene. All their songs and albums are very different to one another and have a lot of variety, so there should be quite a bit you can get along with, often with a lot of good & meaningful lyrics.
The usual cherry popper is the live session of Pisces, which is a personal song about Tatiana, but this one works well too. Pisces itself was actually a re-recording of a slightly older song, made in order to show off their (at the time) new drummer, as his style made the song sound quite a bit differently. The explosive composition however made it go viral on reaction channels and kinda gave them the exposure they deserved, after basically touring for years, just to make ends meet, after fleeing their homes when the war in 2014 came to them (they're from the Donetsk region in Donbas). Pre covid they've had several hundred shows in the couple years before everything went down, which ended up being their longest break without touring. And just about when their tour with Slipknot was about to go live, Russia started the invasion. Tatiana is save in the US with her husband (the drummer from Suicide Silence), but the boys are still in Kyiv.
I'll drop my usual recommendations, excluding this one, if you want to check out more.
    Official video suggestions:
    Teacher, Teacher
    I Speak Astronomy
    Cloud Factory
    Retrospection
    Wallflower
No Hoard Of Value (official lyric video)
    Home Back
    Mediator
    Sit Stay Roll Over
    Live suggestions:
    Perennial live at Wacken
Who Is Gonna Be The One live
On The Top live in Kiev
Pit Of Consciousness live in Kiev
Judgement & Punishment (one take vocal performance)
Captain Clock live at Resurrection Fest

  • @jameswarner5809

Jinjer are able to incorporate a range of musical styles while still sounding uniquely Jinjer. Their songs often as not don't follow the standard verse/chorus structure and contain quiet and loud sections. Tatiana combines clean and growl vocals in all the songs, though the ratio of one to the other varies. As suggested below, I Speak Astronomy is a progressive metal epic with a killer riff in the early verses that will mess with your head, while Judgement And Punishment pulls off the seemingly impossible by blending metal with reggae. Home Back is a heart wrenching and powerful commentary on the Russian incursion into Ukraine (written a few years ago when it was just Russian military aid to the separatists in the south east of the country). Pisces is a beautiful lilting number about Tati's insecurities which explodes in the chorus. There's many more great tracks to chose from. Enjoy your new discovery.

Tatiana has said vortex is about dark thoughts. With English being one of four languages that she speaks I figured she was talking about anxiety/panic attacks. If you are fortunate enough not to know what something like that feels like the the lyrics don't make a whole lot of sense. The 2nd time I watched this video it clicked to me oh sheet I've been there and it fuk ing sux. Btw this this band has a fascinating backstory there's not a single original member in it and they work their ass off you where they are

About Roman's guitar: it's a Venus baritone from OD Guitars, customised with different pickups and the Jinjer logo engraved on the fretboard. OD stands for Omer Deutsch, an israeli industrial designer/musician who one day decided to apply his knowledge to guitar-making and became a luthier. And you're right, that guitar is gorgeous (and expensive) but the "hive" design on the body is not for aesthetic purposes, it actually plays a very important role on the way the guitar sounds.

They're amazing. On all fronts. To me, each of them is playing "lead" - even the drums. I can't think of any of their songs that have what you'd traditionally call a guitar solo (at least, not of their more recent albums).
The singer is currently in the US with her husband. The rest of the band was in Kyiv when the invasion began, and, being of military age, are not allowed to leave. Eugene (bass) and Vlad (drums) have been doing a lot of volunteer work to help refugees. They and their label released 2 different t-shirt designs, with all proceeds going to Ukrainian charities. They fled the Donbas region when the fighting broke out there in 2014 (they're originally from Donetsk), and have basically toured non-stop since that time. The tour opening for Slipknot was going to change their lives, or at least raise their visibility among metal fans. Hoping that this disastrous war will end soon, and that they will be able to continue to make music together.

you should go into that deep dive...but start out with their early stuff so you get a feel of their progression and development as a band. The energy of their early stuff is unreal, 'Outlander' as an example is just 100% free energy and not wrapped up in some predetermined vibe that you can't unpack and use for your own liking but instead just there for you to use as you wish. I think 'Cloud Factory' is another full energy free to all...yes these songs have messages, but the music isn't created from the message's vibe so much that you can't decouple it and use if for your own use. I use 'Outlander', 'Cloud Factory' and 'Ape' as my wake up get energized for the day supplement for coffee. Then you have songs like 'Just Another', and the OMV of that track is one that will leave you smiling and uplifted, empowered, even though the lyrics are more of a 'Another One Bites the Dust' type vibe, showing again the ease of decoupling of the message to enable a pure organic use of the energy and music underneath. I associate this ease of decoupling the original song meaning to the fact the instruments are wrote first and then Tatiana applies the lyrics, so you get her perspective but there is a separate entity in the instrumentals that isn't bound by just her perspective.
    My favorites
    Outlander

They are helping but to be accurate the three male members were in Ukraine before the war started. Because all of them are of "fighting age" according to the Ukrainian government they aren't allowed to leave even if they wanted to. So regardless they wouldn't have been able to be there regardless. Not a significant difference because like I said they are helping people there but fans shouldn't think that cancelling was only their decision. Tatiana is in the US currently.

Hourglass .... the word you're looking for is HOURGLASS.
... but it's not an hourglass.
As others have said, Tatiana's lyrics often revolve around the mental condition. As one who has struggled at times, Tati understands that when sometimes, anything loose or untethered in the mind can be ripped from the moorings and become crushed into a claustrophobic, dark space.
As with all struggles, those in need can benefit from funding.
Just be cautious folks... I had my CC ripped by one site that was being promoted early on (it's down now).
Check who is going to receive your funds, and be generous.
I'm up to about a grand so far, and next paycheck will see about 20% go. It's just money.

Yes they were very metal core I've been a fan 2016 here's a couple of live performancences Captain Clock at Reserecction Fest 2018. Who is gonna be be the one official live and Cloud Factory live official. Tatiana is the main lyricist and she is a fan of Lamb of God and her at the top artist is the great Amy Winehouse and a little side note she had no professional vocal lessons when she was ok earning to growl at 15 she use to go down by busy roadways and sing /scream song by Lamb of God or she would put her face in a pillow and scream and on the Ukraine thing song that was on the Macro album about 2yrs in ago or so must have been a premonition the song /video is Home Back I'm out

Jinjer is way too fiddly( trying too hard) now ! They were so much better in their earlier iteration. Slick videos do not mask this for me. Go back to the playground fellas. Go water her plants while you're at it. Three muppeteers !
