@@pippadawg7037 I'm not judging people for wanting this, I'm just stating facts. I personally like having quality things but I don't have them for their status, more their intrinsic worth.
If you have quality clothes and style it is a lifestyle investment, it means you want to enjoy that and look a certain way. If I slob around the house in an oodie and tracksuit pants it's ok but many realise what a difference it makes to look good. I wore a new dress today and gave a bit of thought to what I wore with it and it really made the event I went to, so much more enjoyable. You can't be afraid to enjoy playing with your clothes and bags to get the most out of your own looks and to give yourself a lift. There's nothing wrong with this and I think we're tending to be way too judgemental about the issues.
I got a lot of compliments in my dress. It's a great thing having a new outfit to wear and enjoying it. There's no shame in it whatsoever. At no time was I pretending to be someone else, but because how I presented myself was exuding confidence that lead to more positive responses. I made a few new friends too. I'm not saying doors opened only because of my dress but it helped. It's all about personal style and knowing what works for you. Like Jessie I'm a high contrast person so I am more bold with my choices, instead of looking apologetic I look confident and you ARE more confident. That's a value.

This is one of the reasons I’m gravitating to made to order custom bags directly from a leather artisan. I get exactly what I want, size, color, leather, hardware. Straps can be made longer or shorter. I know the artisan and his working conditions. Quality and authenticity issues don’t exist. I’m not fueling a greedy multinational. Gucci would be using contractors and subcontractors, they don't own all the factories. They used to subcontract to artisans in Italy who worked in their own ateliers but many died off from old age or from Covid19, so we're in a new era. A lot of the contractors have Chinese-owned factories rather than using individual artisans, and they used to bus workers in from China, so there's nothing to stop the contractors from making dupes on the side, using the same materials and techniques. This is how the super fakes exist there's hardly any indication they aren't real.
The same used to be the case for Hermès scarves, you once could buy them on the streets of Rome, same manufacturers but they'd just leave out the relevant logo. This was in the mid 1990s, I'm sure it's been happening a long time. The reason it's happening more is that it's more economic for the conglomerates to subcontract out, than having everyone an employee of the company. LVMH is one of the absolute worst for this but it seems Gucci is not far behind.

    LV is pushing their luck.
They try so hard, to be seen as same level of luxury, as Hermes or Chanel, but they are not.
Every time, I go past my local LV store, it is not only far from, the finically elite standing in line to enter, but the complete upper site! People from low social class, living several generations in what is normally considered as a one family home. 4-5 incomes/pensions vs only 1 rent, means the they have spare cash for cars and LV, but NOT that they are rich and the fool nobody.
But because of the lower class buying LV, the wealthy choose NOT to shop there, meaning the brand is not luxury at all, but lower and lower middle class, pretending to be wealthy.
And that LV now turns out, new meaningless collections every month, only means pay a lot today, have no resell or cloud value next week… something I think people will get fed up with real fast.
LV in london, picks up middle to high tear clients, in luxury cars with drivers and free champagne, just to get them to turn up for store events.
Hermes in London, actually turns clients who turn up, in their own rolls Royce with driver, away at the door at store events, if they are not on the guest list!
That’s true luxury, vs luxury wanna be for you!
One thing is sure, LV is not and with current marketing plan, never going to be top level luxury, which is fine too, but stop pretending to be what you are not LV!

I also think that the future of luxury hands bags will change but in a different way.
Rising crime, in many of the worlds big cities, people being hell up in the street or cars, smash and grab or be forced, to hand over luxury items, in bright daylight, will eventually result in RICH women, buying replicates of their most expensive bags, let’s say a Himalaya to wear in public, just like the RICH women, already do with their most expensive pieces of jewellery, of which the jeweller, either has a window fake version (copy) or makes a fake copy for his clients. Theses extreme expensive originals are ONLY worn under top security such as private or red carpet events, while the fakes are worn often in public or when travelling, as they have no value, but ALL people of that class, know it’s a fake yet a copy of what’s in the safe at home.
I think the same will eventually happen to luxury watches, too much crime and the police can’t keep us safe anymore.
People are held up right outside their own front doors, followed home from somewhere, found showing off via social media or similar.
Luxury is getting more and more dangerous. Hence why even TH-camrs these days have to ensure not so even show the view from a window not to disclose where they live with is understandable but makes our world a sad place where crime more often then not pays off.

When the bags I have get old or worn I’ll probably buy one just one Gucci bag and carry it until it falls apart.

You’re right, luxury shopping isn’t particularly luxurious any more. Cosette has always given me an odd vibe so I’ve never used them but I use Cettire for buying Longchamp nylon and they have been genuine… I can’t see any difference between my boutique ones and what they’ve sent. The discount on those is great but they are so much cheaper in Europe than Aus anyway so it makes sense. If buying 2nd hand I always ask myself if I am comfortable paying this price even if it turns out to not be the real deal? For that reason I usually only buy small items 2nd hand, otherwise I’m boutique only… but they can be rubbish too sometimes 😕.

You raised a really interesting question/theory that I had not thought of! The luxury brands may be willing to turn a blind eye if they get a secret cut of the proceeds from the fake bags! I had wondered why Prada, Channel etc were not as furious or invested in not letting fake bags be sold.
You had me thinking how different it is in the writing/playwriting world. Estates of famous playwrights are really good at going after theatre productions that did not get permission to stage the play. For example, the Estate of Samuel Beckett was infamous for shutting down any production of Waiting for Godot that did not get permission-they even shut down high school productions I heard! I don’t know how true that is but I do now it is imperative to get permission or you can get into legal trouble.
So if playwrights with one tenth of the money that a luxury brand does can protect their intellectual property, why can’t Channel, Prada, LV sic an entire law firm on any and all places that sell fake bags!
This is a very interesting topic! ❤
    Edit- you looked stunning 💕💕

Here’s my take on all of this, just as somebody who’s been shopping for her whole entire life OK when it comes to designer fashion, that’s completely different from quality. You have to ask yourself why are you buying something? Are you buying it because it’s gonna make you feel richer more fashionable or are you buying something because you like it because you personally like it I think that all of the mine blipping that you’re doing speaks to a deeper issue as to why you’re purchasing something in my opinion these are the questions that I’ve asked myself on why I particularly used to buy you know, designer only as opposed to what looks good on you the quality how long this is going to hold up when it comes to you know your wardrobe what do you want it to look like 10 years 1520 years down the road. I think that if you’re buying something as a status symbol, and you only feel like your outfits pulled together because you’re wearing something that announces to the whole world that you can afford this then you’re already wrong it’s not a true purchase you’ve been captured by a societal I can’t think of the word, but you get what I mean I’ve recently switched a lot of what I purchase to The Row. Now let’s go back 40 years ago. I have an absolute love for amazing wall that drapes I don’t like anything that synthetic on my body. I like to look casual yet elegant. I want to invest in something that I know that I can grab a blazer in my closet in 10 years and it’s not gonna look dated, when I decided to retire and sell all of my Chanel, and as much as I love Hermès Kelly, the reason why I wouldn’t purchase Hermès is simply for the fact that most of the women I see wearing them have no fashion sense there’s no elegance in their outfit they’re just throwing on that bag as though that is supposed to complete the outfit I don’t know that’s just my thought it it’s not a charge against anybody buying anything it’s just kind of my evolution process and it’s come to the fact that I’m gonna wear whatever I want. It’s truly a state of mind that comes from inside of you before you ever put anything on you.

To be honest I don't trust authenticators from most popular selling platforms ( very often very young people 🤯 ) I do understand training ect...but let's be honest you can't be expert in 50 luxury brands including new and vintage ( I seen lots of fakes pass authentication 😬 ) I do agree ! You can be expert in one luxury brand but this takes lot's of time... you need to know brand history , logo evolution , lots of small details ect. it's a real DETECTIVE job 😅 experience comes with time ( if you are luxury collector and you know your favourite brand you can probably authenticate items that you are willing to buy / preloved ) For items from new collections I do recommend Certilogo and NFC microchip authentication ( applies to lots of brands )

Some leading economic commentators are saying we are on the verge of another banking crisis like the GFC 2008, and liquidity is going to be very tight because the banking sector is squeezed by high interest rates having to pay that out to depositors but tight lending criteria and risk of defaults is increasing.
How that plays out for luxury handbags is' to be continued'...but I would think that's why so many collectors are trimming their collections and battening down the hatches as this will play out in the next 4-6 months.
If there isn't enough money in the system, then luxury bags are a lower priority. On the upside maybe bargains are to be had?

I recently purchased a certain Khaite bag that has been discontinued from their line from The Real Real given the they are known to carry fake designer handbags and other items. This khaite bag and re/done shoes I’ve purchase were very much real. In my opinion I think the least risk to not be scammed through preowned venues is to avoid very well known luxury brands (ie. Hermes, Chanel, Bottega Veneta, Loewe, Gucci, Saint Laurent, Prada). I think the people behind super fake items pay more attention to popular luxury brands bc everyone knows and wants brands like Hermes and Bottega. They go where the demand is. If I do purchase another luxury brand like Loewe I feel safer to purchase at their official boutique at this point.

Over 10 years ago I sold a ***real**** H 90scarf to some woman here in NZ, who then (so she claimed) had it 'authenticated' as a fake, - allegedly by some woman she re-sold it to in Paris!!! Then she raised a dispute with me (long story)
The thing is, I bought the scarf in Collins St at Hardy Bros (Melbourne) in the 1980s. Almost a months salary for me then!! NO way it was fake; it came in an orange envelope (not a box) and they threw in two massive thick glossy catalogues from H as well. Anyway the whole experience was unpleasant but it showed that some ppl 'authenticating' H items are full of shite, frankly.
As for the bags, I only buy H Dupes. They are sold as real leather but I think they are compounded leather, made of pulverised leather scraps re-formed into sheets. SO the fact the original material is derived mainly from actual animal protein (leather) they can sell them as 'real leather' without being sanctioned. ( I would never touch PU with a ten foot pole FWIW ) When looking into Compounded leather at the time i began buying the bag dupes, I saw one study that said a basketball made of the compounded lasted longer than a real skin one, so I guess the bags are gonna hold up OK over time in terms of wear and tear.

I think people always misunderstand that the big portion of money we spend on luxury handbags is for the brands, not necessarily the quality of the handbag itself. If your argument is right, then imagine if LV or Chanel are shutdown and no longer exist in the market, do you think people are willing to spend few hundred dollars to buy the super fake of these brands, knowing those are absolutely not produced from the brands, even without an professional authenticator proof?
Even though the super fake quality is surpassing the boutique bag, without the brand designing new bags, investing a lot of money to marketing and branding, I don't think the super fake has a market at all if those brands are no longer exist in the market.
To be honest, if you appreciate much more of the quality of a handbag than its brand and history behind it, I think you better get a hand-crafted real leather bag from those small Italian store. They are truly high quality but much more affordable. And why they cannot charge the price as high as those big brands? Again, it's the lacking power and resources issue of establishing a brand with a history that makes everyone buys in.
And that is why big brands spend our money every year to make runway shows with their new designs, hiring a design director with million dollars a year, paying celebrity to wear their goods, making ad campaigns and open those fancy stores worldwide. Can those super fake do the same? No, they are earning money without putting any effort but from stealing the influence of brands and the resources those big brands invest in.

I honestly love luxury handbags from famous designers but I am trying to buy less and less from very well known brands because I am realizing that what I pay is not just quality but mainly I am paying for their massive marketing campaigns...furthermore the quality is going down recently despite prices going up...and it is not luxury anymore if a bag is not handmade but mass-produced and everyone now days can own one. Recently I am buying a lot from websites that can put you in contact whit artisans in Italy (most of them produce for big names as well....) and have the same quality, if not even better quality, at a fraction of the price and exclusive designs. It's not common to see other people carrying the same bag when an artisan produces is it just for you, this is real luxury to me!

Some authenticators are fine with authenticating outlet quality bags. I had a 'made for outlet' Prada bag that I bought from the outlet in Bicester Village (UK). I sent it for consignment. I know the woman who runs it (and sent it for authentication) and I had warned her that it might not pass as it didn't have a date stamp and there was a flaw on the Prada logo. The authenticator was happy to say it was the real deal so they must know the features of the outlet bags too. As an aside, the leather wore really well and someone got a great bag at a good price!

Pretty much all of the bags are made for outlet at Prada and have design differences to any bags sold at the regular Prada store. I never saw the sense in trying to invest in apparel for resale purposes. The only investment value an item of clothing can have for me is how long I’m able to keep it due to quality craftsmanship. So then it has to be asked, is there a rigid line or a grey area for when we should be idolising a brand who isn’t hiring the best of the best? Are people investing in the name only or does anyone really care about tue quality? I’ve never thought seriously about buying fake intentionally, but I’m finding I care a bit less knowing these brands can’t or won’t ensure theirs is better in every way. At that point I feel a fool to give them money simply because of who they are if I don’t 1000% believe in what they make.
