I find the furore around the smell of the meat quite interesting. I would personally never have considered trying to get rid of the meat smell, part of the appeal is in that. I've also seen this in quite a few korean shows, I remember seeing one which used coffee to get rid of the pork smell.

Some types of pork meat really does have a strong smell which can be difficult to take. Maybe Korean pork does have a strong smell
