Holy crap dude I was spending a long time looking at why my air blower motor wasn’t working and I came across forums saying it could be a faulty ignition switch. Then I jump on TH-cam to find a video on how to replace it, and your video with the exact same car pops up. Thank you so much!! Also the reason your wires in the ignition are all spliced up is because previous owners most likely had a remote start hooked up. When installing a remote start system, you need to connect to the ignition wires.
My son's 2003 Grand Prix. Heat didn't work on any speed, his auto headlights would turn off whenever you turned on the switch at any speed. Would occasionally work on 5 but would soon quit. I replaced the blower motor, and the resistor. Still didn't work. Next I replaced the ignition wiring he shows in this video. All problems were fixed. What a terrible design. Well at least every thing is new so, hopefully it last for the rest of the cars life. Great video.
Thank you. It’s tough but the temperature was giving me the idea the car thought it was off, which is totally an ignition switch issue. Glad it worked out!
I'm late to the party here, but I wonder if this is what my issue is. Have had the sticky key for a couple years or so...use a small screwdriver when it won't come out. I had noticed a couple times in the past, the key seemed really hot when I took it out. Today, out of the blue, we went to start it and it was COMPLETELY dead...not even a click. Interior lights and dashlights were flickering and going crazy. Tried to jump it, and after leaving it connected for a few minutes, it DID slowly start. Ran it down the highway and got it home. Tried to start it and once again dead as a doornail. It's got a good AC Delco battery in it, but I know it's over 6 years old, so checked that and as old as it is, still showed 12.75V, so that would seem good. Checked fuses, all seemed good. I'm leaning toward tracking down a new ignition switch at this point, but welcome thoughts! Thanks.
When the ignition switch didn't work did it make the lights in the stereo go out . Cause my heater hardly works and the air conditioner well that's not a good thing either and it all started with the ignition 😩
Very good video.i have a quick question, if someone could answer it that would be great. I have a 2002 grandprix Se. I lost the key to it .& had to replace the battery.can I do what was done in the video. & get a key? Or is the sercuity system going to stop my car from starting?.will I have to reprogram a key or the car. Or it's brain if it has one? Please someone answer.thank you
Yikes...that I don't know. I think you need a functional key to make another key, but you would need to search that exactly out on the internet to be sure. My understanding is the security system keeps the fuel pump from running.
@@Turbo231 my problem is the new ignition switch key is not aligning with the pin. I tried to turn the pin with pliers it's not moving. My old ignition switch is sitting in the slot where it's held with the inverted torx screws. It's the new switch I have problem with, the other end of the new switch sits in the bottom connector fine. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
This looks like a job. I was quoted $368 by a shop to do the repair. The car is only worth like $2500. You never talked about the key relearning process? Doesn't the car have to relearn something?

That is a great point, thanks. And thank you for the comment!

My new ignition switch is not aligning with the pin. How do I make the new ignition switch sit on the pin?
Are you able to turn the key? It may have moved since it was disconnected?

The bigger torx bit comes out with a 4mm socket, and I ended up just using a t-25 screw with a Vice grips for the smaller one

I didn’t change the module or the key, so no learning required. Just changed the cable, still working great to this day!
My key would get stuck in the ignition switch, what do I do to resolve this fault?
I have heard of that. I think it’s a power fault, same way you can’t remove the key when the battery is dead.
@@Turbo231 thank you
