    I have reduced my plant collection around the time when I gave birth to my son, so I mostly have hoyas. (the ones that are not finicky...) Watching your alocacia collection makes me miss my old plants😂❤

    I just purchased a alocasia dragon's breathe, and I am just blown away! Silver, elongated leaves. So beautiful. 😍 it's my favorite alocasia rn, and also have frydeck, red cuprea, platinum, silver dragon, and black velvet too.

    As far as I know, I don't believe you can prop alocasias from anything but corms? You can probably just strap up that micholitziana with some velcro or something, that's what I end up doing to mine that go every which way lol.
    Your plants are GORGEOUS! alocasia are my favorites!

    Great video Emma...the Polly is so underrated I love mine even though she is teeny, also recently replaced my black velvet am definitely going to get some corms to expand my collection asap I adore that pink passion, never seen an Alocasia like it anywhere. So cool...🌱

      I'd be happy to send you some corms come springtime if I have any!!

    Emma love the alocasias. Of course I picked them as my favourite collectible with a home that has 30% humidity. But pebble trays and daily attention seem to keep them growing even in winter with supplemental light and I spray them down every morning. And I mean drench!, love the plantmas series ❤❤

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  ปีที่แล้ว

      oh wow yeah that must be tough with such a dry home! Glad you're on top of it though! Your alocasias must be loving it!

    Awesome content, Emma, as usual. I have a lot if the same Alocasia as you! I am particularly proud of the 5 corms I propagated from my silver dragon, that suddenly decided it didn't want to live, lol, back in July. I harvested the corms and started them in a perlite prop box and they all rooted and are now about 2 inches tall. They have multiple growth points and are so cute! The polly was my first Alocasia as well and I now I have two, plus a bambino. My cuprea just gave me a new leaf last week, and it sized up quick; its enormous. I also have a new little azlanii; it is kind of iridescent, like the cuprea, but the leaf shape is a bit different. Alocasia, with all their shapes and textures, are the most interesting plants, I am captivated by them!

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah I defo think they're one of the most underrated genera!

    Awesome collection of Alocasias! Also almost the same as my own collection 😍
    Your Polly story is exactly the same as mine except it's one plant and no babies. But the journey for it is exactly the same hahaha! Also, didn't know an Alocasia can have leaves like the Brancifolia. That's pretty cool! Had a Jacklyn like yours. Small like that, was very pricey. Had an incident when I placed it under a huge leaf, and that huge leaf moved away due to it still growing, hence exposing the jacklyn to full blast evening sun. It got roasted in 2 hours 🥲

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      oh no!! I would cry if that happened to my jacklyn!

    Alocasia definitely one i struggle with. But i am getting much better since i started off at the beginning. My first one is Alocasia Dragon Scale which i fell in love with. Is the strongest one in my collection which had its ups and down. That Alocasia Longiloba grandis look like my new one the Alocasia Watsoniana which the back side is also purple and waxy looking and kinda same looking. There leaves stay small they don’t grow big leaves I don’t think. Alocasia Jacklyn looks so pretty would love to have one that fuzzy texture looking. I always find baby Alocasia are harder to stay alive since they aren’t fully matured. The Alocasia Melo looks pretty too. I thought you had an Alocasia Pink Dragon too. That one i only like the pink stem but not so much on the leave. The other Alocasia you should add is the Azlanii which i prefer than the Cuprea. Also nobody is getting the Scalprum i think you should add also that one is amazing.

    • @GoodGrowing

      I gave my pink dragon to Claire back in the summer. Ooh I'll have to add the Azlanii and Scalprum to my wishlist! Thanks

    Please don´t cut your Micholiziana, just wrap 1 or 2 pieces of twine or something around the petioles to keep them upright and make the whole plant looking bushyer. Also, I don´t think it´s possible to propage Alocasias through cuttings, so first do your research before starting that experiment.

    I've had so many alocasia fails... mostly from pests or overwatering.
    I currently have 3 alocasias in my collection, black velvet, frydek and a bisma and they're all doing ok so I'm proud :D Hopefully it stays that way.

    I planted my Micholiziana deeper like you said about a month ago and it’s rooting up the stem where it was bare before.
    Also your polly looks massively different to mine, I find that so interesting

    Air layer that Micholiziana if it doesn't work then you know that you can't chop n prop. If it does then you can pray the mother survives but know that the top chop will root.

  • @renatecormick7399
    @renatecormick7399 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh I just love my Polly! Probably because it’s the only Alocasia I own and was given to us when we lost our grandson. So it has sentimental value and as it lives on our dining table we pretty much are seeing it all day. I was watching the newest leaf coming up for the last week and keep staring at it and wondering if there are any corms down in the pot. I’m not sure whether this would be the best time to repot it or wait until the new leaf has fully matured. Also I’m considering transferring it to leca and putting it in a S/H system. When I was researching it I read that it doesn’t like to be overwatered (which I’m so guilty of). Seeing as you have your mother plant in Pon I’m thinking that leca is fairly similar so it should be ok. Any thoughts on it would be very much appreciated.

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah tbh I think they would be fine in leca. I've found you can't really overwater with semi-hydro because it's just always in water... might take a moment to adjust but once it settles it should be fine! I would wait until the newest leaf is all the way out though

  • @lizmarie6989
    @lizmarie6989 ปีที่แล้ว

    Move the mich to higher light and the new leaves will come in shorter eventually the long petiole will die back. No need to cut her
