Yup you can watch the making of on here and all the monsters are practical. The choreographer was also Pyramid Head and the back of his apron was open during filming so everyone on set could see his ass cheeks haha
The movie, just like the game, doesn't spell everything out for us, but rather imply. So Alessa was a victim of witch hunt because her mom had her out of wedlock and those religious freaks were like "she a demon" because of that. So it started with bullying and then escalated. She was nearly killed, her soul got split into two physical representations: good Sharon and dark Alessa. And her anger created "the darkness" and the monsters in it as well as Silent Hill as this separate dimension, like dark Alessa's personal playground to trap those religious dipshits in. The crawling janitor monster who's corpse was in the girl's bathroom stall, for instance, was the same janitor that they implied SA-d her when she was still a human. So dark Alessa killed him and made him into what he is inside. Honestly dark Alessa is completely justified in my mind. So anyway, the only person who's immune to "the darkness" monsters is her mom, the clump of stale hair from the drain. Because she has always loved her. "Dark" part of Alessa went into "the good" part - Sharon effectively making Alessa whole again. In my mind dark Alessa didn't possess Sharon, but kind of "completed" her. The reason why she had those nightmares is because in a way she was without her second half. That's how I see it at least. Now that dark vengeful part of Alessa was able to penetrate the church and kill those bitches, she has no other reason to exist separately or do bad things of this extreme kind. But yeah, Rose and Sharon are stuck in this dimension and I honestly don't know if it means they died or just unable to leave... But the investigator guy said that when this happened, they couldn't find all the bodies as a result of the fire, which implies that all the religious freaks were transported into this dimension. So Silent Hill dimension might not equal death.
so im pretty sure that the reason that Rose and Alessa are still in the dimension at the end is because Alessa has everything she wanted there. All she needed was her mother, and that look she gives Dalia implies a sense of disappointment and disowning. Alessa can now be loved by Rose for all of eternity. It's pretty dark, but I think it's quite fitting for Silent Hill.
The story was changed because my guess is they didn't wanna get a rated R sign on the movie. Because in the video game the girl was immolated in a poorly done ritual by Dalia to impregnate Alessa with a fire god which would incinerate the world and give the Order a new haven on earth to live on. So they took the fact that in the game Alessa had no father (because Alessa was conceived via another ritual which is why Alessa has powerful psionics powers) to turn it into what you see. It feels like maybe it's left not terribly explained so the ones who played the games could go "Oh the Order is suspicious that Dalia conceived Dalia to birth the fire god", and vague enough that the average movie goer could say "Oh yeah witch burnings happened, so these are like those guys right?" That doesn't sit with me because most cults like that just throw out people like them for Apostasy if they have children out of wedlock. But you can make any lore you want. This movie is its own thing but used the wonderful music, visuals, and atmosphere of the games.
First move I saw where Sean Bean didn’t die I was SHOCKED! I always figured the burned girl made a deal with a demon type thing 43:47 to take revenge on the people who hurt her and that’s the creepy girl in the purple dress. Also the mom got stabbed so possibly she died, sacrificing herself to stay with her daughter
Two things to utterly love about this movie? They used actual music from the games which is AMAZING, and secondly, Sean Bean somehow survived this slaughterfest! It's a Christmas miracle!
I really love the horror concept that to defile and harm something innocent and pure like a child, it doesn’t make the child evil when their pain warps and destroys the world - it’s just the ultimate evil of harming a child that causes that destruction.
I believe in the end Dark Alessa and Sharon merge, making Alessa whole again and reborn. She then uses her power to let her and Rose go home, but keeps them in the fog dimension so she can be alone with Rose forever, finally with a mother who will take care of her. Loved the reaction!

I've noticed a lot of people don't seem to understand why Rose speeds off from the cop, which is kind of an inciting incident for the movie. Her husband already cut off her credit cards to try and force her to stop what she's doing and bring their daughter back. It would be reasonable for Rose to assume that he then told the cops that she basically kidnapped their child and is putting her in danger. Cybil (the cop) was already visibly suspicious of her at the gas station and then comes to pull her over shortly afterwards. Hopefully this helps explain that plot point a bit.
One of the best video game movie adaptations ever. Such a shame the sequels weren't made with this much care. They even used the same producer to keep the same creepy feeling the original score kept on the game. They tried to be as faithful as possible instead of being showboaty. I wish the resident evil films were also made like this one. This is truly an underrated film. Will always be one of my favorite horror films ever. The game was respected. Still recommending Penny Dreadful watch as well!
I think this was an amazing adaptation. Losing of items. The way she has to solve some of the puzzles with logic. And while the Cult aspect is a bit different than the game it for the most part retells the first games story very well. A parent trying to find their daughter in a mysterious hellish town.
There's a theory that Dahlia controls the creatures, which is why they never attack her. You can notice it when she points to Anna and Pyramid Head manifests himself behind her. Dahlia had Alessa out of wedlock so the others thought she was the daughter of the devil. Also, the ending was that Rose and Sharon either died in the accident or from the ash inhalation so when they get back home, it's their ghosts that the husband can sense but he can't see
Huh? Sorry try again. She’s not some demon, she’s not attacked cuz ITS HER MOTHER she loves her mother! Maybe when you’re older and not like 14 or whatever age you seem to be you’ll get symbolism and whatnot better.
@@6Haunted-Days Honey... You are WAY too passionate about this. I'm a 30 year old man commenting on a movie that I've been watching for almost 2 decades now. I'm only going by what I've seen and read others say. It's a THEORY. Not a fact. You can take that attitude and shove it up your "they/them" hole
Christophe Gans is currently in post-production on the sequel called 'Return to Silent Hill' based upon on the second game! (The silly 3D flick He had nothing to do with doesn't count now) and hope you'll react to it when it comes out either late this year or early next!😁💖
"Only the Dark One opens and closes the door to Silent Hill." The musical score, the imagery, and the set are 100% from the video games. Laurie Holden in this movie. I was obsessed with her. The haircut. The attitude. ❤
Very few react to the Silent Hill films thank you for doing so.🙌 I always guessed that Sharon was the child of Alessa and the Janitor but I'm not sure. 😂🤷♂️
I don’t think he gets it, but what is trying to explain with the whole clip from the darkness is that Alyssa was sexually abused from the janitor and became pregnant she was burned, but survived the baby she gave birth to is Sharon, the good part or the darkness likes to say what’s left of her goodness
Babyy, I grew up in Wheeling and Bluefield WV and my mama just LOVED to remind me every time we watch this and The Hills Have Eyes😭😂 loved seeing your reaction! 💕🦋
when alessa became whole after the church scene she decided to keep rose as her mom in the other dimension. its really not that complicated imo but idk ive watched this movie about a hundred time lol literally everything is spelled out for us
YAS KWEEN! This is one of my favorite films of all time, absolutely love it to death. I was working at a Movie Theater when it came out. Anyway... thank you for your reaction, so glad you finally got to watch it. Now, they are remaking SILENT HILL 2 (the game) a long with a NEW game called SILENT HILL f. There is also a NEW film that is in the works... not sure as to when that will be coming out. But I think it's currently titled: Return to SILENT HILL. Take care Nick, stay warm and stay sassy!
remember watching this on a sleepover when i was a teen, never finished it, i'm 28 now and yet it kinda still haunts me sometimes when i'm trying to sleep 😪
Lmao @ 15:00 "...What is that, the symbol for Prince? 🧐" 🤣🤣 Just one of many commentary moments that had me laughin my ass off. Great reaction, loved it all! So yeah, the "demon" lookin Sharon is (at least implied heavily) is the Grim Reaper, I believe. It's never really implied that she's Satan or proven she's an actual demon so it's very likely it's actually Grim Reaper. So, the Grim Reaper hovers over Alessa as she's near death and offers her a deal...why? What's in it for the Grim Reaper? That is never really answered...idk, I guess he got more deaths to meet his death quota by her accepting the deal lol.
Sorry I know I've commented a lot but one more thing, Silent Hill is based on a town in PA named Centralia, which still has embers burning to this day, I think you used to be able to go there to like 'tour' it but now its completely off limits.
It was the inspiration for the film adaptation, but not the series as a whole. You can still technically go there, but there's not really anything to see anymore. They covered up the graphitti'd road leading into town that was so iconic to the location, and was one of the reasons I wanted to go there. Still ended up going. Didn't see any steam rising at the time, but did see some of the stovepipe-like vents and wandered my way to a steep incline with a bunch of shale dumped from inside the mines. Brought home some fossil impressions.
If you're interested in dash cams through scenery, I can strongly recommend train dash cam channels, they'll often have videos that are just an entire uncut journey of a given train line, shot from a camera mounted at the front. Perfect to have on in the background while reading or something, super chill.
This was great. Loved the games. Such a great time for survival horror back then... Resident Evil, Clock Tower, Parasite Eve, Galerians, Alone in the Dark. I loved this one but the second not so much, even with Kit Harrington.
Glad you're reacting to this one! I've always had a soft spot for this movie, of course it doesn't compare to the games (imo), especially the first 3 but I still think it's a good film! Definitely better than most video game movies 😂
Pyramid head is one of the scariest video game characters ever. The Silent Hill universe is so insane. I wish the movies were more game accurate tho this first one is okay. The second one is not great. But if there is one thing about The Silent Hill verse, you will get some crazy visuals Also that is not just the man from the hitcher . That is THE NED STARK THE WARDEN OF THE NORTH AND THE LORD OF WINTERFELL 😭😭
Enjoy the reaction this is one of the best video game adaptations in a movie but even if you didn't understand what was going on entirelyou you did good trying to piece it along the way.
Freaking love that game. It’s scared the 💩 out of me once you have to start using the flashlight. I even tried replaying in my 40s and still was too chicken 💩
I also love that the names on the map of all the avenues and streets in Silent Hill are named after sci fi and horror writers like Bachman Street Bradbury lane and Madison avenue the Bachman being the pen name for Stephen King also Nick I think you hit the nail on the head when you said the monster in this film are gorgeous but disturbing in reference to pyramid head/Red Triangle Thing The point of the flashback scene was to show that Alyssa was once good but when she was burned she was consumed with hate and the demon even says that the hate grows in people until it changes the world think Candyman but without the murdering of innocent people kind of thing great video as always all the best 😊👍
In the ending it looks like Sharon and rose are dead but what happened was that Rose found a portal, only one was allowed to pass through, so she let Sharon go, that’s why Sharon’s in the second one with the dad and rose is still stuck in silent hill
i've watched this movie so many times, i kinda forget how wild the gore gets. seeing someone experience the movie for the first time and react appropriately to all of....everything...reminds me that holy shit they went HARD with this one. a lot of the set pieces and general imagery were lifted straight from the first few games, but tbh the plot is a lot more straightforward in the first game: your adopted daughter is a quasi-reincarnation of a little girl who had magical powers and was burned by her mother in an attempt to birth her cult's god and usher in the apocalypse/paradise. you don't know any of that when you agree to go on vacation to silent hill with her (which in the games is an actual resort town that may or may not be abandoned) and she goes missing after you crash your car. you spend the game trying to find her and stop the cult from attempting a do-over on the whole god-birthing thing.
Silent Hill town is based off a real location, located in Eastern area of Pennsylvania known as Centralia. In Real life once in a while the town does get snow looking ash falling from the sky due to the still burning underground Coal fires that start a chain reaction of explosions into new areas of the mine pushing ash and debris up an out into the sky. The coal Fires have been burning since 1962 and still burning to this day, the roads have buckled and falling apart over the years. In 2020 only 5 residents were still living in the town as of 2023 there is only 1 family still living in town. When this last family goes No more people will be allowed to live in the area as the land has been classified abandon due to its unsafe conditions. Many fans of the movie will tell you the Church is in Montpellier, France Notre-Dame-des-Victoires which may be true, but the Real-Life church still stands today in Centralia PA on Summit Hill Rd which is (Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church), many of the town houses and building have all been bulldozed and removed just an empty shell of what once was stands the test of time.
I live by the town that inspired the video game: Centralia Pennsylvania. There's not much to see now. Graffiti Highway was pretty cool, but was covered with dirt during covid because so many people were trespassing and leaving tons of garbage everywhere. If you go during the cooler months, like now, there's some areas that you can see the steam coming up from the ground. The fire is still burning.
The REAL silent hill is Centralia Pennsylvania. The mine fires have been burning under the town since 1962 and is expected to burn for another 250 years.
Do you mean the THIRD one? The second one, which it doesn't seem like you know about, is garbage. The new one coming out should be good with the director from this one returning to direct.

Love this movie, classic horror movie IMHO. The acting, FX, cinematography, set design, and sound design are awesome. My gods, what a dark ending though. 11:04 "Something you pull out of a lint trap." Had to chuckle out loud at that. Laurie Holden is awesome as the cop, actually she's my favorite character in this movie because she has good sense and isn't insane. Was so happy when I heard she was going to be in The Walking Dead (which again, she was awesome in). Also love Alice Krige as Christobel, if you haven't seen the horror Ghost Story from the 80s, you should as she's in it.
I randomly watched this on cable 10 or so years ago lol. I'd never played the game but the movie was weird/intriguing enough that I watched the whole thing. Also the cop was hot lol
You have no idea how much my heart leaped when i heard you said "Dark Matter." Literally NO ONE I know, online or IRL has heard or seen of "Dark Matter"
Visually it's impressive. I think people didn't understand it. This director here has just wrapped up a new film based on Silent Hill 2 the second game. It should be out this year.
This and Stay Alive came out around the same time. This movie scared the hell out of me then and I didn’t watch it again until last year lol. Stay Alive though is one of my all time favorites. You should check it out too
ONE OF MY FAVOURTIE MOVIES OF ALL TIME EVERYBODY CHEERED Also, Rose doing nothing but shaking crying screaming? she's kinda like me because I would be USELESS as hell Following game lore, the town of Silent Hill is built on an ancient Native burial ground and the area has ALWAYS had some freaky energy surrounding it. It calls to and when it wants, traps people in different 'worlds'. Christopher was in 'the real world', the one with all the ash is 'Nowhere/the Fog World' (its fog/mist in the games) and the one all bloody and rusty is 'the Otherworld'. Alessa was born with telepathic powers, was bullied and after being assaulted at school by the janitor, she was burned by her aunt's cult and has lived in constant pain for YEARS. The town saw her suffering and helped her get revenge on those that harmed her by boosting said abilities and trapping the cult members in Nowhere and the Otherworld, Silent Hill is BIIIIIG on 'justice.' Sharon, 'dark Alessa' and that burned woman are all Alessa, just her soul split into numerous parts and 'Dark Alessa' and Sharon rejoined into one body at the end. Sharon and Rose are stuck in the Fog world meaning, for some reason, the town doesn't want to let them go
Just wanting to say that your glasses & T-shirt look was 🔥 🥵. Also the dad is Boromir (“one does not simply walk into Mordor”) in Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring and Eddard Stark in Game of Thrones. Great actor! Love every review video you do!!! Thank you! 😊

Thank you! I didn't even realize that's why her card didn't work
There's a sequel coming out this year called Return to Silent Hill based on the second game! It's going to be by the same director too!
Loved this game. Scared the 💩 out of me.
I think this was an amazing adaptation. Losing of items. The way she has to solve some of the puzzles with logic. And while the Cult aspect is a bit different than the game it for the most part retells the first games story very well. A parent trying to find their daughter in a mysterious hellish town.
"This feels like a fever dream."
You pretty much summed up the entire Silent Hill franchise in six words.
😂😂"but do you regret coming here?" She certainly ought to.
"This was a movie." I think that might be nicksaysboo's version of "Bless your heart." 🤣
😂😂😂 X flashbacks!
There's a theory that Dahlia controls the creatures, which is why they never attack her. You can notice it when she points to Anna and Pyramid Head manifests himself behind her. Dahlia had Alessa out of wedlock so the others thought she was the daughter of the devil.
Also, the ending was that Rose and Sharon either died in the accident or from the ash inhalation so when they get back home, it's their ghosts that the husband can sense but he can't see
Not really the reason they don't attack her it's because she's alessas mother
@@artaquino6388 Don't do that. I don't need some rando on the internet going "Well, actually 🤓" to me over a goddamn THEORY
@@6Haunted-Days Aw did a 30 year old MAN offend the they/them creature?
Christophe Gans is currently in post-production on the sequel called 'Return to Silent Hill' based upon on the second game! (The silly 3D flick He had nothing to do with doesn't count now) and hope you'll react to it when it comes out either late this year or early next!😁💖
I love this film ❤ Cybil deserved so much better. All she wanted was to protect a little girl and she died horribly for it.
"Only the Dark One opens and closes the door to Silent Hill."
The musical score, the imagery, and the set are 100% from the video games. Laurie Holden in this movie. I was obsessed with her. The haircut. The attitude. ❤
Glad he got it while editing. The one major difference between the movie and the game is that the father is the one looking for the girl not the mom.
Very few react to the Silent Hill films thank you for doing so.🙌 I always guessed that Sharon was the child of Alessa and the Janitor but I'm not sure. 😂🤷♂️
I hadn't seen the movie since theaters but the church scene at the end still stays with me
I don’t think he gets it, but what is trying to explain with the whole clip from the darkness is that Alyssa was sexually abused from the janitor and became pregnant she was burned, but survived the baby she gave birth to is Sharon, the good part or the darkness likes to say what’s left of her goodness
"You also lost your access to shampoo" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Babyy, I grew up in Wheeling and Bluefield WV and my mama just LOVED to remind me every time we watch this and The Hills Have Eyes😭😂 loved seeing your reaction! 💕🦋
Not you knowing SEAN BEAN from hitcher and not LORD OF THE RINGS or GAME OF THRONES. girl, I revoke your nerd card immediately!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
"...One does not simply forget that Sean Bean was in Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring as Boromir. 👌" 🤣
"What is that the symbol for Prince?" damn that was funny!
And the MCR comment too that was great man!
when alessa became whole after the church scene she decided to keep rose as her mom in the other dimension. its really not that complicated imo but idk ive watched this movie about a hundred time lol literally everything is spelled out for us
I loved this adaptation. I also get a kick out of Alessa's smile when she protected Rose by snapping that guy in half
11:36 "SHAAAROOON!" I thought the same thing lol
I’ve been waiting for somebody to react to this lovely movie, great watch !💕
Oh those are my jam too 🍻
I remember going to a haunted asylum for Halloween and they had the nurses from this movie in there. I loved it though, but I still ran 😂
If you didn’t know, Pyramid head is Alessa’s angel/guardian
Most of the monsters were portrayed by dancers! I always thought that was so cool
Omgggg I made it on the Patreon list in a video 😫😫 why am I so excited about this ahhaha
This was great. Loved the games. Such a great time for survival horror back then... Resident Evil, Clock Tower, Parasite Eve, Galerians, Alone in the Dark. I loved this one but the second not so much, even with Kit Harrington.
Love Kit Harington but not even his pretty face could save that garbage fire.
We don't talk about the second movie 😹
It's cold here in Tennesse too, not as cold as Denver though. So much ice here!
But if there is one thing about The Silent Hill verse, you will get some crazy visuals
Also that is not just the man from the hitcher . That is THE NED STARK THE WARDEN OF THE NORTH AND THE LORD OF WINTERFELL 😭😭
The stuff of nightmares!
You nailed it with your comment about the music. The music is comprised of the music from the first 3 games in the series.
I am confusion!!
Great reaction Nick. 💛
I also love that the names on the map of all the avenues and streets in Silent Hill are named after sci fi and horror writers like Bachman Street Bradbury lane and Madison avenue the Bachman being the pen name for Stephen King also Nick I think you hit the nail on the head when you said the monster in this film are gorgeous but disturbing in reference to pyramid head/Red Triangle Thing
The point of the flashback scene was to show that Alyssa was once good but when she was burned she was consumed with hate and the demon even says that the hate grows in people until it changes the world think Candyman but without the murdering of innocent people kind of thing
great video as always all the best 😊👍
In the ending it looks like Sharon and rose are dead but what happened was that Rose found a portal, only one was allowed to pass through, so she let Sharon go, that’s why Sharon’s in the second one with the dad and rose is still stuck in silent hill
you make this funny lol btw loveeee how you react to this Silent hill will always be my favorite!!!!
i've watched this movie so many times, i kinda forget how wild the gore gets. seeing someone experience the movie for the first time and react appropriately to all of....everything...reminds me that holy shit they went HARD with this one.
a lot of the set pieces and general imagery were lifted straight from the first few games, but tbh the plot is a lot more straightforward in the first game: your adopted daughter is a quasi-reincarnation of a little girl who had magical powers and was burned by her mother in an attempt to birth her cult's god and usher in the apocalypse/paradise. you don't know any of that when you agree to go on vacation to silent hill with her (which in the games is an actual resort town that may or may not be abandoned) and she goes missing after you crash your car. you spend the game trying to find her and stop the cult from attempting a do-over on the whole god-birthing thing.
Ooooh I’m here for the Dark Matter love!
I like that they add a backstory to the fog. In the game the fog was really a clever way to hide the polygon limitations of the PSX.
Thanks for the reaction. This is definitely one of the best video game movie adaptions, really captures the spirit of the first game
Glad nick reacted to this not many do and they are missing out this movie is brilliant
The jokes and quips you come up with are hilarious 🤣🤭
First time watching? Are kidding me? It's the best horror movie based on a video game. Waiting for the 2nd one! ;) Hugs!
The 2nd movie is not nearly as good and definitely the writers were struggling to be coherent with the plot but it was just a mess.
Do you mean the THIRD one? The second one, which it doesn't seem like you know about, is garbage. The new one coming out should be good with the director from this one returning to direct.
@@Sab_MJsMama The 3rd Silent Hill movie came out VERY recently so most ppl still probably don't know about it. Haven't seen it myself yet but will soon. Not expecting anything good but like to find out for myself.
This little girl was so good in the movie Case 39. So creepy you would love it ❤❤❤
That’s actually on my agenda to do at some point soon!
I saw this when I was 16, for me this movie is 10/10
I love Silent Hill ❤ I've played 1-4 video games. You're reaction was amazing 😍🤩
Freaking love that game. It’s scared the 💩 out of me once you have to start using the flashlight. I even tried replaying in my 40s and still was too chicken 💩
I love you, Nick! It's so cold in Chicago that I don't want to leave my apartment.
I also jumped at her bumping into the barrels when I saw this at the cinema in 06.
The screen was so dark that I couldn't actually see them, so when she bumped into them I almost died of a heart attack
I live in fort collins, about 30 minutes away from you, and it was -22 a few days before you posted this! Thought we were all gonne freeze 😂
I love this movie man since I was a child
I randomly watched this on cable 10 or so years ago lol. I'd never played the game but the movie was weird/intriguing enough that I watched the whole thing. Also the cop was hot lol
27:50 Sleepwalkers does not get enough love. I lost count of how many times I watched that vhs
I've never seen a movie nail a video game adaptation so much while still fumbling the ball constantly.
It's whiplash inducing.
I couldn't sleep for days after watching this movie when I was younger. Can you say TRAUMATIZING!
Yeah and some of the deaths are some of the most brutal I've EVER seen, especially Cristabella's death. 😯
The Pyramid head and the creature with no arms that shoots acid out of it's body was creepy as hell.
Omfg the Halloween 4 prayer 🤣💀 perfection 👏👏👏👏
😂😂😂 You know this brain stays in Haddonfield
@@nicksaysboo17 Everyday is Halloween at Nicky’s House 👌
"Mostly because she looks like something you pull out of a lint trap" That really got me girl, I just about died of laughter.
This and Stay Alive came out around the same time. This movie scared the hell out of me then and I didn’t watch it again until last year lol. Stay Alive though is one of my all time favorites. You should check it out too
I, too, am still bitter about Dark Matter getting canceled.
I'm so glad you watched this movie, Nick. Excellent video game, excellent movie.
ONE OF MY FAVOURTIE MOVIES OF ALL TIME EVERYBODY CHEERED
Also, Rose doing nothing but shaking crying screaming? she's kinda like me because I would be USELESS as hell
Following game lore, the town of Silent Hill is built on an ancient Native burial ground and the area has ALWAYS had some freaky energy surrounding it.
The town saw her suffering and helped her get revenge on those that harmed her by boosting said abilities and trapping the cult members in Nowhere and the Otherworld, Silent Hill is BIIIIIG on 'justice.'
Sharon, 'dark Alessa' and that burned woman are all Alessa, just her soul split into numerous parts and 'Dark Alessa' and Sharon rejoined into one body at the end.
Sharon and Rose are stuck in the Fog world meaning, for some reason, the town doesn't want to let them go
when playing Pyramid Head, wore 15-inch heels to make him close to seven feet tall.
Thank you! 😊
One thing I remember fondly about this traumatizing movie, is how hot the lady cop was.
And nurses too
