Age 11 “Promised you a miracle” was my first single purchase. Glittering prize was my 2nd. I still listen to the ‘New gold dream” album now age 49 and it never gets old. Love a bit of Tears for fears from those days too.
Whenever they get mentioned its always the mega hits that get played, but their best music was the early stuff like this. No other band sounded like them back then.
My 80s childhood was a bit horrible but it the music and awesome bands like this that made me safe and at ease. I was 11 when this cut as well as their other fantastic hits like "PROMISED YOU A MIRACLE" AND "HUNTER AND THE HUNTED" had came out. And after all of these wonderful years, they are still without a doubt timeless.
Totally empathise with you here, my childhood wasn’t too bad but we moved countries and I couldn’t settle, found solace in music like this..hope you’re feeling good now 👍
Horrible, nooo don’t say that pls. It were different great times.!! You were just enjoying your teen years like me and everybody else. All the best to you my friend.! We HAD great times, and nobody will take that away from us. Remember that. Take care.!
Easily my favourite Simple Minds song. Just gorgeous. Every sound on it from the get-go....the keyboards, the guitar, the bass, the voice....makes me ache for my youth. Even though it was a tough time for me at school I get associations from this with something happy. Summer, maybe? Only music can do that!! Well.....that and maybe girls' perfume. :)
I was a new romantic in the 80s oh such great songs brilliant era but this tops the lot!! simple minds my favourite group!! This song Still sends shivers down my spine!!
Thank you very much for posting these beautiful lyrics to this fantastic song, KilunjiKOTA. This is yet another one of those beautiful hits from the '80s I enjoyed so much, and still do to this day. It's going to be great singing the great words to this fantastic song thanks to you posting these beautiful lyrics, and I'm glad you enjoy the lovely music of Simple Minds as much as I do. Thank you very much once again, and rock on!!😀🎸😃🎸😀
Indeed. :-) I hear a lot of it in modern acts like Cindy/Palmbomen, Nite Jewel, Out Hud, Lia Mice.and Johnny Jewel's productions (Desire/Chromatics/Symmetry/Glass Candy/etc),
Shine on ,shine your light on me and all of my life so that much more I see.this song just goes hand in hand with the heady soundtracks to life, love and youth. You don’t need a simple mind to realise and appreciate that.
Years ago I played this so many times headed to work in remote mountain locations. Now I can play it and it brings me back to the golden era of working in GODS country where I could see my life flashing before my eyes only on a clear day
Michael MacNeil, Derek Forbes and Brian McGee were the substance, the backbone of Simple Minds. Their successive departure created a great void and an irreplaceable loss for the spirit of the band.
Can't help but agree with you on that - this was their golden era, regardless of how successful their later stuff was. New Gold Dream was their high water mark in my opinion.
This song will always remind me of living in New York back in the day. It wasn't a hit but what a song. It got airplay on the alternative NY radio stations.
Great year for music. Notice in those early years of the 1980s bands had their own sound and style .Unlike what was to follow, every act looking and sounding the same, following the sheep.
Saw thease guys on the sparkle in the rain tour in london.....loved it!.....encore with the American....Derek Forbes genius playing on this.....great band......still sounds fresh...
Jim Kerr looked very like Michael Myers from Halloween in 1982. just noticed that after 38 years lol. great song and takes me right back to the carefree days of my youth.

wonderful song that encapsulates all the spirit and feeling of the new wave of the 80s, songs like this are everlasting.
Brilliant, Still one of the best basslines of all time.
Oh, absolutely 👏👏
It helps with the track being recorded well..

Love Simple Minds 18 at the time in 82. Just loved the 80s. They were one of my favourite bands.... wish I could go back in time and stay in the 80s.
Well said my friend great years never forget them.
Same here sister!
Oh god, you really don't. The 80s were actually pretty grim. It was being young that was the amazing thing.
@@zeddekaGrim? Even the worst times of the 80s look like a picnic compared to today's wretched sickness and craziness.
was obsessed with this band..saw them every time they came to Toronto in the 80s still love them now
Simple Minds and The Associates were ahead of the game in the early 80’s.
RIP Billy Mackenzie never forgotten.
They were late to the party like all Scottish bands.
@@stringer-ik1pc They were late to the Party Fears II ?
They were not ahead of there time ,it was the right time ,why do people made stupid remarks like that
@@briansilver6196 because songs like country club were co written with rankine 4 years before that song was actually released. truth not stupidity. 🙄
New Gold Dream
Amazing album!
Still listen to this band today.
me too...
2019 😊❤
I will until I die!
Me too! And I'm sixty now.
☺😊
Amazing bass
emmaboulton1 - Derek Forbes, probably the best bassist to come out of Scotland.
John Smith I love Simple Minds but their recent acoustic tour seemed to lose all the elements that make them unique
Lex772 Jack Bruce would have something to say about that.
Yes and the camera never seems to capture it.

I am the same with music, perfume and flavors.
Feeling this song in the depths of my soul every time I hear it. Also longing for the great times of being youthful in the late 80's
That bassline
Oh,yes,indeed!!
Iceman90 yes yes yes and straight from the opening
Pretty much as good as it got in 1982. Glorious!
Promised You A Miracle is even better in my opinion.

Glittering Prize
Simple Minds
Shine on, shine the lights on me
In all of my life so that much more I see
In the light of his love
In the light of reflection
What a world this world
Sometimes oh so it seems
Eyes to the sky in the silver gift friendship
Glittering prize
Is the price of lost love
They can remember quiet side of midnight
They can remember attraction of fame
Like a glittering prize
I saw you up on a clear day
First taking heart
Then our last breath away
Always came a time
Time was by your side
We were spending time
We were starting out
Catch me in a dream
Captured all in heart
We were spending time
We were starting out
Could there ever be
Ever more than one
Called an act of love
Can you never stop?
Shine on, shine the light on me
In all of my life
So that much more I see
Like a glittering prize
I saw you up on a clear day
First taking hearts
Then our last breath away
Only on a clear day
Coming in on our lives
Only on a clear day
Coming in on our life
We can remember quiet side of midnight
We can remember attraction of fame
Like a glittering prize
I saw you up on a clear day
First taking hearts
Then our last breath away
See it in the eyes
Satellite sky
We were spending time
We were starting out
Take in, take in more
Endless breath away
We were starting out
Now we're staring in
Could there ever be
Ever more than one
Called an act of love
Can you never stop?
Shine on, shine the lights on me
In all of my life, so that much more I see
Like a glittering prize
I saw you up on a clear day
First taking hearts
Then our last breath away
Only on a clear day
Coming in on our life
Always on a clear day
This is the price of love
Like a glittering prize
Only on a clear day
Rushing into our life
Is like the price of love
Like a glittering prize
Only on a clear day
Rushing into our life
Like a glittering prize

I've loved Simple Minds for as long as I can remember and this gets played often when I'm driving. Takes me back to when life was more simple 😍
