Nico van der Meulen Architects: A new house where the architects worked with the clients for about twelve years before they started building. The 1200sq.m. home is situated on a 4000sq.m. east sloping/facing stand though the house itself is north facing with the major rooms having the view to the east.
Extensive folding aluminum screens were used both for privacy and sun control. The north and east elevations are totally glazed, as well as parts of the southern elevation.
The main entrance is situated between two water features, with a larger water feature and the pool immediately visible through the transparent hall...

Why did it take 12 years of consultation before building started? How long did it take to build? So many questions could've been answered with a narrator or captions.

Imagine you are 50 and you are retiring at 60. You work in Cape Town but you decide you want to retire in Johannesburg where you were born and most of your family is. You find the perfect piece of land and already have your favourite architect that you want to build that home you retire to (that you probably have already built other houses with so you have a relationship of some sort) so you collaboratively work on the ideas of this home as something that you will eventually build when that time comes.
That's one example of why a house can take that long to build. A house like this would take two years tops if the aim was to build it immediately.
