      @@susank580 You bet! Once you get the fat level right, the absence of hunger is pretty immediate. My brain does try to make me think it NEEDS food in the morning, but the truth is, my blood sugar level is stable and I have no physical signs of hunger, just a desire to eat. Learning that they aren't the same thing has been one of the biggest hurdles.

    Something that’s helped me tremendously and that I continue to incorporate is having one whole large mashed avocado mixed with a tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder and a few drops of liquid stevia (I use NOW brand organic non GMO liquid stevia). This “dessert bowl” as I call it is the very last thing I consume in the day, and not only does it taste delicious and provide awesome nutrients, it is totally satisfying to my senses and also sustains me well into the following day; I don’t feel hungry until around 4PM. Unless she is worried that you are too thin already, or are in danger of getting an eating disorder. I don't know you, of course, it's just a wild guess of her motives: everybody who fasts must surely know that it is exactly when body goes into ketosis: we burn first fat stores during (In this case, simulated) fat storage and then the body starts eating muscle. That's why too restricted diet is harmful. Yo-yo diets are usually like that. They also cause you to put on MORE weight once you start eating appropriate amount of calories.

    Started 2017 with KETO. Then added IF (2 KETO meals daily) after 4 months.
    Went through intense keto adaptation.
    But I made it through 2017.
    Decided to start 2018 with Keto + OMAD(one keto meal a day)
    KETO + IF or KETO + OMAD does wonders for our attention span, focus, rationality, stamina and self confidence.

    • @chiranjeevic8384
      @chiranjeevic8384 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am on OMAD since a month but not keto,i am curious to know what you include in your ketogenic diet.

    • @drananth
      @drananth 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chiranjeevi C Try getting used to an OMAD first. It must be fasting 23 hours daily with nothing in between. Black coffee/tea is allowed. Try OMAD for at least 4 months. 120 days. Google & TH-cam to get OMAD recipes & weekly OMAD planner. Word of caution- get someone to prepare your OMAD meals. Once you are able to handle OMAD, then it's time to change your diet to Keto + OMAD.

    • @chiranjeevic8384
      @chiranjeevic8384 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ananth Arunasalam I have been following OMAD since 50 days bro

    • @drananth
      @drananth 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Chiranjeevi C that's good. It will be good to know what your OMAD consists of.
      The first step into KETO OMAD is to VERY GRADUALLY "remove" the carbs in your OMAD.
      I need to stress the VERY GRADUAL element here.
      Again, to highlight, it will be good if you have or arrange your meals to be prepared by someone.
      The easiest carbs to remove first are fruits, sugar, grains, dairy & dessert/snacks element that may currently be in your OMAD.
      After removing these elements, you need to assess if you really can maintain your OMAD with fasting of 23 hours daily. Allow your body about a week to tell you.
      Caution- if you are unable to get at least 8 hours of sleep daily, please do not attempt KETO OMAD.
      Switch back to OMAD.
      Rearrange your life priorities and look for ways on how to achieve 8 hours sleep daily.
      After a week, If you can continue to Keto OMAD & 8hours of sleep daily without fruits, sugar, grains, dairy, dessert & snacks, then you can proceed to remove one main carbohydrate portion of your meal, eg- either rice or chapati or bread.
      Rule of thumb- once you remove these elements, you may experience a new type of "early sleepiness" & daytime drowsiness.
      This will last for between 2-3 days.
      It's very important to pay attention to this and sleep ASAP.
      It is at this point that you need to start adding fat into your OMAD, like butter, nuts, sesame oil, coconut oil, ghee etc.
      As I mentioned earlier, Its very important to sleep early & get long hours of sleep during this period.
      You may even develop severe running nose, cough, plenty of phlegm etc along with the sleepiness & drowsiness. But it's ok. Just rest, plenty of clear fluids etc. After 2-3 days, you will be better.
      Do let me know after a week.
      Thank you.

    • @critter4004
      @critter4004 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      TENKARA you shouldn't fast longer than 12 hours in the beginning phase of keto. You are training the body in what to choose as fuel (fat)...you need to consume fatty food until you reach fat adaptation. THEN you can do longer fasts.
      Otherwise your body will consume lean mass (your muscles) for fuel.
      Also, you will lose hair.
      Follow a logical plan for nutritional ketosis!! Don't simply starve.

    I've JUST started a keto diet - cold turkey - and have found that MCT oil makes it really easy to fast! I'm at OMAD after three days, because MTC oil really curbs urges to eat. Before keto, I was hungry all the time, and craved sugar all day and evening! I'm astounded at my curbed appetite! However, I'm feeling a bit strange in this transition, (Keto Flu) but will power through it.

    • @kirkellis4329

      When and how much MCT oil do you take ? Straight or added to coffee, tea, or some other way ?

  • @valeriesanchez3074
    @valeriesanchez3074 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Always start my 24 hour fast around 12 noon.
    Eat OMAD for 5 days.
    Tend to break ketosis on weekends.
    Only doing this diet to help my ckd.
    Was 152 lbs.
    Now I'm 124 lbs.
    Crazy weight loss.
    But I do love the peaks in energy compares to carbs.

    The best tip I found was to drink salt water . I was really hungry under IF in spite of everything listed. However, I did a 3 day fast (the 2nd day was hard) and I don't know why but it killed my insane cravings. I start the day with electrolytes, a cup of coffee and then have one meal in the late afternoon. (unless I visit my parents.) I exercise a lot as well - that is no problem either

    Hi doctor Berg, I started Keto diet one week before, now my body is in ketosis with current reading of ketones ~8.0 (purple) strip. I am still facing keto adaptation with fatiuge and headaches. If you can upload a video which tell about how much of ketone reading is good at different stages of keto diet, that will be very helpful to track my progress. I have hypothyroidism so it was very difficult for me to loose weight. Your videos have inspired and helped me understand my condition better. I find keto diet perfect for me. Thank you.

    I don't know if Dr. Berg agrees, but in my experience, if you increase protein in the beginning, the body will push the lower limit of glucose levels up a bit.
    Conversion of protein into glucose doesn't happen right after you eat. It takes many hours before that starts and it lasts many hours as well, maintaining glucose levels a bit higher, easily untill you first meal after 18 hours of fasting. This helps a lot in not feeling hungry.
    Ofcource , once you're through the transition and are fully fat adapted, you need to reduce protein intake to the correct level.

    • @blkbbw8295
      @blkbbw8295 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Peter Faber Totally agree! When the goal is to get into ketosis, it's better to eat a good amount of protein for the first 4 days, once in ketosis that can then be lowered.
      Unless one is also trying to achieve Autophagy, in which case it's better to just live with the hunger the first few days. As autophagy doesn't work after 4 days, but only seems to work best if cycling in & out of ketosis every week.
      Also when in ketosis, if using ketostix & they stop work it means you are now fully Keto adapted!!

    • @Ry_ooK
      @Ry_ooK 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also if I buy like a 500g / a lb of ground beef mince & fry it in some oil with a tsp of spices. Then blend it up into a soup with a can of chopped tomatoes, I can eat that in the morning for breakfast and not desire to eat again until the next day!!! And the Macros are like just under 100g of protein, 13g of net carbs & just about 100g of fat.

    Excellent advice, i'm doing this for a few years now.
    if i want te get adapted back after recarb.
    i drink ACV + lemon, fat cheese and sausage combined with multi vitamin and chicken broth. This works for me every time and i'm in keto after 4 days. (check with ketostix + bloodtest)
    Then i change my diet to eggs 'nd bacon w. cheese in the morning and BBQ(all meats and a lot of fatty mayo) + non starchy vegatables as a second meal with a tablespoon of MCT, MV, ACV + lemon.
    Great to see others are taking this more serious, while not describing it as a diet from hell.

    I find that when you do clean healthy keto from the beginning, I noticed that after a month and half.. my appetite decreased drastically and I automatically went on IF without even noticing it because im not hungry. And when I do eat.. I eat like normal but not as much as I used to when I first started.. my meals always consist of high fat food, vege.. then im full.. i went from 4 coffees a day to 2 coffees a day and sometimes 1... and again it wasnt planned like this at all as i just dont feel like having it. But i do have around 11am or 12pm braggs ACV, wheat grass, salmon oil, selenium and potassium citrate with water and coffee.. maybe i have a small breakfast/lunch.. and then i dont eat till 9pm.. and then the next day.. around the same time.. its almost like a routine..

    I'm on my second round of Keto. I lost 50 pounds. Stopped doing Keto around the holidays, but still did IF. I gained a few pounds back, trying to make it to my goal weight. I counted calories 1200-1400 while doing keto and IF. I am wondering if I should not count calories this go around. I hit a plateau, which was discouraging. My highest weight was 209, currently at 163, lowest weight is was 157, goal weight is 155-150. Height 5'1. Can't really go lower in calories to break plateau. I started off just walking, now I am going to the gym 3 times a week.

      They say chocolate helps with menstrual cycle gravings, so try adding pure cocoa powder into the thickest cream you can get or Bulgarian live yoghurt (good for gut bacteria) I also find cinnamon, mint and liquorice root tea helps. But liquorice is naturally sweet, even though your cuppa contains zero camories:I believe that at initial stage mere sweet taste can increase insulin in some people, which is why even zero calorie sweeteners are iffy. It's better to slowly reduce the sweetness altogether.
      Warnings:
      1. Liquorice raises blood pressure so watch out if you already have a high blood pressure.
      2. Cinnamon does lower blood pressure but it is also a neurotoxin so should be used in moderation. Normal use is harmless for most people; I used to put quite a lot of it into my porridge as well as drinking a 2 - 6 cups of tea several days in the row.
