Jack, I notice when you're improvising, you switch your pickups a lot through your phrasing. So in your mind, you're also thinking "Hey this line should be played with the neck...then this next line with the bridge."?

I'm genuinely curious .. how much of your spontaneous thought is comprised of music theory vs fly by night when it comes to note choice? Improv is the magic for us guitarists but I think I'd be asking the question that's on all of our minds. If one doesn't have instinct, is studying modes and music theory just a dead end / rabbit hole?
