  • Steam trains, electric trains, diesel trains, getting married and... Getting married? What's that got to do with trains? I'll be in the Isle of Wight when you listen to this episode. Fingers crossed the weather is good!

Hi Ray, this is a podcast covering one of my favourite interests. Trains and trams are always a great subject to discuss. When I was a child in Sydney, all the interstate and regional trains had steam engines. Our suburban trains were single deck electric. So9me had steel carriages and others had wooden carriages, which were older than the steel carriages. Sydney only started getting double deck carriage trains in the 1960s. Actually, listening to your voice, you don't sound like you are at the Isle of Wight, you still have your Worthing accent!!! Seriously though, The Isle of Wight sounds like a great place or a holiday. I remember riding steam trains from Sydney to Nowra south and also to Newcastle north of Sydney. Where do your trains go from Worthing these days? According to a video that I have just watched, the train carriages going through Worthing station are green in colour. We had a lot of train lines disappear here in Australia as well, though in some situations, they have had to bring them back. We still have street telegraph poles with lights here, though only to carry the electric, Internet and phone cables. We had trains carrying cars until recent years, though not sure if they still run these days. My wife and I were married in a house way back in 1979. We knew a minister, who was a friend of the family and all went very well. Anyway, take care. Rob in Melbourne Australia.

Interesting. Here in Melbourne, it is possible to take return one day train trips to a number of regional areas including Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo and Traralgon. In yeaes gone by, Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong all had separate tram systems. Bendigo still runs the remainder of their tram system as a tourist tram line.
