How new church policies make trans members invisible and could push them to leave

- The occasional updates to the online General Handbook of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are often routine, addressing relatively mundane policies, practices and procedures within the global faith of 17.2 million members.
Not so this week.
The new guidelines spelled out for local lay leaders and their approach to transgender individuals have created a firestorm among LGBTQ members and their allies not seen, perhaps, since the hotly disputed - and now-discarded - exclusion policy of November 2015 against same-sex couples.
The new rules state, for instance, that members who have transitioned in any way - whether surgically, medically or socially - cannot receive a temple recommend, work with children, serve as teachers in their congregations or fill any gender-specific assignments, such as president of the women’s Relief Society.
They cannot stay at most youth camps overnight. And they are urged to use single-occupancy restrooms at church meetinghouses or station a “trusted person” outside to keep others from entering when they use a restroom that aligns with their personal gender identity.
Discussing these new policies and their potential impact on members are religion scholar Taylor Petrey, editor-in-chief of Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought and author of “Tabernacles of Clay: Sexuality and Gender in Modern Mormonism,” and Michael Soto, a transgender and queer man who grew up in the church and now serves as president of Equality Arizona.
After the 2015 child baptism exclusion policy for children of same sex couples combined with this latest trans policy, this is feeling less and less like Christ's church.
Its not gods way or his church. This political organization is less than 200 yrs old. NewAge CULT-ures fade fast !! The Masons were all about politics. JoeSmith copied so much from them. I know more resigning than joining
😂😂😂😂
@@Dave-if5qj In Africa if a child is born Albino they are executed- not a lot to laugh about. The rest of us are rising to higher vibrations of love Dave
My favorite part was when asked 5:30 mins in, what did the church do well with these changes.... crickets...long pause. Then follows...it could have been worse...how low do we set the bar for religions of the world?
Turn to Jesus Christ as your Lord, so that all of your sins will be forgiven, and you will be saved❤️ He is the only way to heaven, and he wants you to be saved❤️
17 mill members is a joke!! Most have left. Millions are in the process of having that LD$ number removed
It’s best for individuals to leave if it’s not working for them. Find what does. God bless
@@darlenemartim9972 I wish anyone would have warned me what was to come. We think we know until after the fact.
Trans woman here, & yeah, I don’t regret removing my records. If anything, this just fuels my bias that I made the right choice in not keeping my name on their list 😂
Sucks for any trans person who’s still believing & in the church tho, so my heart goes out to them, regardless if they decide to leave or try to stay in the church
I study and listen to all Mormon to defend my transsexual reality. I am surrounded by we want to help you when it is control. Unless told they think I need a husband and have children, I find it funny they just don't know,.Bathroom issues I have never scene or experienced a problem, am I lucky or is it all BS?
Thank you leaving on your own accord
It’s best to be where you are comfortable. If Jesus is not for you, no problem.
😂😂😂
The results of Jacob Hansen's activism.
Do you mean Jacob Hansen's support of intolerance? Reminds me of the parable of when Christ leaves the 99 and goes after the 1...until Christ finds out the 1 was a Transgender Lamb...and determines to returns to the 99. (New Testament - Jacob Hansen Edition)
Are they still required to pay there tithes ?
If one wants to go to their childs wedding, dress their momma for a funeral, maintain political stance in western USA, maintain social acceptance, get help from a "particular" bishop, the loop holes are endless
No one is required. The lord never forces. It’s based on ones faith in Jesus Christ
@@darlenemartim9972 Thats right and for hundreds of years during the Christian Crusades people had choices. Follow christ or burn at the stake. . . Ya so many burned and were slaughtered
Im ni longer LDS but fully support
This policy , don't like it leave
Sumple as that gender is sacred
Every church and organization priority is keeping kids/people safe. If you are just an activist plz leave and find where you are most comfortable. We love you. If you love God turn to him and gain a testimony. These things will not affect you
Christ lives and loves us
If only the Church understood love as Christ did...
If only the entire world could love like Christ.
@@danak8782 The world seems to be doing better than the Church when it comes to love in this situation
@@haroldwhite5761And how did Christ love exactly?
