What is the Book of Enoch?

  • The book of Enoch, often called 1 Enoch, is an apocryphal scripture that has had a profound impact on Second Temple Judaism and Early Christian theology. The book of Enoch tells the tails of the many visionary and apocalyptic visions that the biblical figure Enoch experiences as he travels through the glories of heaven and the terrors of the underworld.
Enoch, a character that can be found in the book of Genesis in the Old Testament, is the star of this ancient non-canonical text. Enoch encounters the evil Watchers and the frightening giants called Nephilim. The book of 1 Enoch is quoted by Jude in the New Testament, was found among the Dead Sea Scrolls, and is still considered scripture and is part of the Bible in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. 1 Enoch even references many sayings often associated with Jesus, like the "Son of Man" and "The pre-existent Savior." The book of Enoch is one of the most fascinating works in all of ancient literature.

...¶...AND those men took me and led me up on to the second heaven, and showed me darkness, greater than earthly darkness, and there I saw prisoners hanging, watched, awaiting the great and boundless judgement, and these angels were dark-looking, more than earthly darkness, and incessantly making weeping through all hours.
2 And I said to the men who were with me: 'Wherefore are these incessantly tortured?' they answered me: 'These are God's apostates, who obeyed not God's commands, but took counsel with their own will, and turned away with their prince, who also is fastened on the fifth heaven
3 And I felt great pity for them, and they saluted me, and said to me: 'Man of God, pray for us to the Lord'; and I answered to them: 'Who am I, a mortal man, that I should pray for angels? who knoweth whither I go, or what will befall me? or who will pray for me?"...from the "Forgotten Books of Eden" Collection...'The Secrets of Enoch'...Peace on Firm Earth & Flat Water -the apostle john

I love the different dream visions. I think part of it is it feels like something that can be closely related to things we may have today. Often time, the miracles or visits (like Paul/Saul) seems like such distant events, but dreams are things we all do. So, I always find the dream meanings and such so interesting! Enoch was heavily taught in the denomination that I grew up in. It scared the crap out of me as a child. It’s definitely not an obscure book; charismatic protestants will use it to affirm certain doctrine in the New Testament. I enjoyed learning about Enoch but I have to say I am happy to be out of the religion I was so heavily influenced by.

I am actually impressed by the book of Enoch, and believe that while it is Not Canonized, it is a real account of Enoch's dealings with those who were the offspring of the fallen, and human women.
If it is mentioned in the New Testament, it's fair game. These are things not to be taken lightly, and a lot of foundational knowledge has to be exercised while piecing things together, and referencing this body of writings. One takeaway that keeps getting my attention is how some of the offspring of the fallen, "Monsters", actually expressed a lot of regret over how things went down. They had genuine fear of their futures, and what punishment was in store for them. They knew God very well.
They understood that their fallen angel fathers were to blame.
They share the same emotions as us.
There are many answers to vexing questions in this book. It's like all of the connective tissue in the Bible comes together right here.
Really being sure as to why the flood had to be, along with other things that get answered as you read..( probably the best thing about the Bible, the more you read the more you learn!)
What's really interesting is how Enoch's writing's explain why the Israelites had to go into the promised land and kill off it's inhabitants. Because the nephilim were still in the land at that time, and they are genetically corrupted, Not because my Father is a genocidal maniac! To this day they inhabit the most powerful positions on the planet; but in the end God Wins!
Regardless of your position, this is definitely worth reading and praying over!

    • @rickbrock20
      @rickbrock20 ปีที่แล้ว

I fully agree, Enoch has many things that explain a lot, not covered, not only the fallen, or why they had to kill all people, mother and children, and all their animals, they were corrupted. Also gives an excellent account on how the Sun, Moon work. Unfortunately it matches up perfectly with a flat earth theory.

2 And I saw all the sweet-flowering trees and beheld their fruits, which were sweet-smelling, and all the foods borne by them bubbling with fragrant exhalation.
3 And in the midst of the trees that of life, in that place whereon the Lord rests, when he goes up into paradise; and this tree is of ineffable goodness and fragrance, and adorned more than every existing thing; and on all sides it is in form gold-looking and vermilion and fire-like and covers all, and it has produce from all fruits.
4 Its root is in the garden at the earth's end.
5 And paradise is between corruptibility and incorruptibility.
6 And two springs come out which send forth honey and milk, and their springs send forth oil and wine, and they separate into four parts, and go round with quiet course, and go down into the PARADISE OF
    p. 84
[paragraph continues] EDEN, between corruptibility and in corruptibility.
7 And thence they go forth along the earth, and have a revolution to their circle even as other elements.
8 And here there is no unfruitful tree, and every place is blessed.
9 And there are three hundred angels very bright, who keep the garden, and with incessant sweet singing and never-silent voices serve the Lord throughout all days and hours.

There is not such thing as a "Jew" in scripture. Judah was the fourth son of Jacob and an "Israelite". Jew was the "mocking" name given to TMH's Nation of affluent Negro descendants of Shem, the progenitor of the Negro Nation of Jacob and the Israelites living in the Southern Kingdom of Judah by the surrounding envious, impoverished nations of Edom, Moab, and Ammon, and that was "mistakenly" believed by the Japhethite Israelite identity thieves who came down from the North, and who are still in existence today as "Jews". Israelites are still scattered and waiting to be "gathered" and placed back in our land just as our Father TMH Ahayah, the LORD of hosts, GOD of Israel says he will do. Ref. Having read the comments, there really is a problem here. CE stands for 'common era' but it really is no such thing - it is only the common era for Christian or those who are in the Christian derived culture. Certainly, I am not aware of any other culture agreeing that it should be 'common'. AD and BC are open in being Christian and not implying that other cultures - religious or otherwise - endorse this dating. I think one could argue that it is less inclusive to imply that other cultures accept the 'Christian' timing which is rapidly becoming the norm at the moment.

@@junkmail7780 I’ll refer you to Inspiring Philosophies channel. There are many contradictions and errors in the Book of Enoch. They referenced Enoch the person, in the Bible, not the Book. There were also two different Enochs as well. Buddy, if you wanna believe some fan fiction then so be it. More power to ya. I get it, the book is an amazing read, and stirs the imagination, but it is still a work of fiction.
Also, humans do not ever become Angels in the Bible. There is NO reference saying when we die, or if taken to Heaven, we become an Angel. Metatron is also fiction, and his name is never mentioned. There are only two angels that have names. Michael and Gabriel. Even the humanoid Angels of Lot did not give Lot their names. You’re all believing in deception and fiction.

Which is why he says the book of 1 Enoch is basically just fan fiction. He is literally saying its made up by someone who is pretending to be Enoch.

Enoch was Noah's great grandfather. I think there is very good possibility he took all of the written texts with him in the ark. Whether the full book of Enoch was included we'll never know. The info was definitely passed down for generations.

You are pushing a False Theology.
The book of Enoch has no value or say in Hebrew or Christian Bible Teachings.
It is also a very good possibly it was a work of fiction. Much like a Steven King Book of today. Entertainment probably a very popular one. Yes these people way back then HAD ENTERTAINMENT!!!
They did not sit around all the time praying to Heven. They Worked very hard an had Relaxing times Games, Books an Music, Plays.
Telling Theological Fables about the Book of Enoch. Is a bad idea there are far to many of us Biblical Theologians out here for that to fly
😳Careful one thing we Theologians really know an Fully understand is Gods Warth. Far more Evidence of THAT THAN THE BOOK OF Enoch.

He didn't push any theology. He was just explaining what the book of 1 Enoch is. The book of Jude in the New Testament quotes 1 Enoch directly, btw.

As for Theology , Theological or Theologians. By your response you dont have a Clear Knowledge of the term.
This podcast started with, the Book of Enoch. Is used widely an has cast a great Deal of knowledge for Biblical Teachings. That is totaly False. It is almost never Spoken of an if it is. It's only when discussing those trying to use it as Spiritual Guidance. It did NOT make the Hebrew Cannon. It did Not make the Protestant Cannon. There is no reference in Jude to Enoch any similarities to the Book of Enoch.
      Carry no Validation.
The Dead Sea Scrolls there is no Enoch or even scraps there of. All the Old Testament as we have it is account for Except Esther. This makes think wonder Why.
🤔 Hmmm when an individual runs with any ideas Directly impacting Biblical Knowledge. It falls under Theology.

@@sirenscalllntothedeep6306 Jude, in the New Testament, does quote 1 Enoch. It's clear as day. And 1 Enoch is found in the Dead Sea Scrolls. He even shows proof with references in the video. I don't have to prove it to you, just look it up. I'm a Christian by the way. I just don't see what's wrong with learning more about books that didn't make it into the canon. As for Jude it's a small Book in the New Testament. A very quick read. It mentions nothing pertaining to Enoch. As for the Dead Sea Scrolls it must be a Very recent Development. How much of Enoch was found.
