Beautiful music and great lyrics Supertramp are one of the all time great bands. Roger Hodgson sings with such feeling and emotion truly a great musician and song writer. Not forgetting the late great Rik Davies a band of many talents and adversity.
A shout-out! Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the song. That clarinet solo gets me every time - John A Helliwell's saxophone and clarinet work adds an extra dimension to Supertramp's music.
Hi Cinthia and Chris, I'm almost 65, and my musical world completely changed in the early 70's when I heard Pink Floyd and Genesis. I also fell in love with this Supertramp album in 1974, every track is great. I hope you will one day react to "Rudy" who is my absolute favorite. Their next 2 albums ("Crisis? What Crisis" and "Even In The Quietest Moments" also contain gems. Have a nice day.
EVERYTHING from this album... to the next "CRISIS, WHAT CRISIS?"... to the next ("EVEN IN THE QUIETEST MOMENTS") is SUPERB. Then came their great "BREAKFAST IN AMERICA"... so that's a hell of a run. Love this song. I'd highly recommend "A SOAPBOX OPERA," "FOOL'S OVERTURE," and "THE MEANING," for a listen... they are all magical. Cheers!
I've been a fan of Supertramp since 1973, and by far Crime Of The Century is their best work, I have seen them and Roger Hodgson since they broke up several times. I have all their music. You have to give a listen to Fools Overture from Even In The Quiest Moments Album, or Soapbox Opera from Crisi What Crisis album. I'll be watching.
To me, Crime of the century is this incredibly talented bands best album, the production by Ken Scott is immaculate, much social commentary, all the worlds a stage and we are all players and portrayers
Imagine sticking around for 4 years, and 3 major line-up changes, to get to your third album still believing in yourselves....? Rick Davies, and Roger Hodgson had a self-titled album "Supertramp", then "Indelibly Stamped" (interesting album cover) and finally success with this album
I’m a fan of Roger not so much Supertramp , logical song is in my top 50 of all time - never heard this before and I’m happy to leave it at just one listen as it’s a bit of a dirge to my ears . 👍🏴
I sent an email with a picture of The Black Sorrows attached, if ever you decide to do them. Pictures of the band taken around the time of ''Chained To The Wheel'' are hard to find.
I’m not a Lebron fan but he is a legend. Ok stuff? Show some goddamn respect just because you’re not a fan doesn’t make them any less. Hey bud the world doesn’t revolve around you maybe you will figure that out someday

I think this song could have been better by taking out the drums, bass and possibly strings - simply leaving the vocals, keys and the clarinet. I just feel the other instruments are superfluous and detract from the sound.
My dad made this request. He says thank you.
Well it would be a Crime Not to !!
@@ghichens3418 A Crime of the century!
One of the best songs ever!

Great band, Supertramp, they have their own sound and can't really be mistaken for anyone else, great reaction.
I think that Supertramp are fantastic, and yet this song is so dire, that I wouldn't have believed it was Supertramp
I know right ? Exactly my response SC 🤷♂️

Supertramp had their own unique identity as a band & it was hard not to like such well written music performed with perfect precision. Good stuff 👍
Amazing Song.. Thank you.♥️🌹👍

I knew Supertramp through their singles but it took me a while to really appreciate them. I really like this. Cheers

SuperTramp! Are they in The RRHOF? They should be!
Agreed.

Supertramp dared to be different and they always stood out. A great band, but I'm not sure about this song. I'll need to listen again later on.
We're thinking it may work better as a piece of the album. Perhaps it makes more sense that way.
I think it's about politicians
This song almost sounds like Puccini
?
I'm not a huge fan but they did some ok stuff.

This album was written during the cold war, when a nuclear holocaust was a possibility.
