    I have been cruising since 2001. I have only paid full price for 2 of my cruises. My first cruise I spent $300 on gambling. During Covid, cruise lines were really hurting for money and bookings. So they made the cruise deals impossible to turn down, especially if you live near a cruise port. I have six cruises booked from now till December of next year. One cruise in April is 16 days through the Panama Canal. I put down my $200 deposit, which is given back in on board credit, and I pay the port fees. My free cruises started with interior cabins,now I stay mostly in balcony cabins and twice a year I get a suite! I get $500 and even $1,000 in free play! I also receive a free drink package and sometimes my cabin mate gets one too! I usually get some specialty dining or a bottle of wine. I feel if I don’t take these cruises, I am loosing money. The most of my own money I spent gambling on a cruise ship is $1,000. Most people spend that to take a cruise!

      If you can play the games that have the lowest house edge you can really get very good perks from the cruise lines.
      It’s even a better deal since you live near the ports!

    I've seen some videos that point out that land casinos are required to pay out over 95% on slots but most cruise slots pay in the 85% range. I have also heard that cruise casinos limit the odds bet on craps to double odds whereas land based usually allow 3-4-5 times odds depending upon the point.

    FYI fellow travellers, if you've gambled in Las Vegas before, keep in mind that Nevada State Gaming has regulations for Las Vegas casino slot machines to have a theoretical minimum payout limit of 75% (Regulation #14). It makes sure all Las Vegas slot machines actually pay out a minimum average of 75%. It prevents casinos from setting up their machines to pay out less than 75% or none at all. These cruise ship casinos dont have any regulations to follow or abide by since you are essentially gambling in international waters. Im sure they wouldn't, but the cruise ship could set up their slot machines to never pay out (or barely at all) since there are no regulations stopping them from doing so. If you want to gamble (and win), stick to the tables on cruise ships.

    A lot of the ships we've been on recently have added a third green to their roulette wheels. The payoffs are what you would expect, but the third green changes the house advantage from 5.5% to 8.3%. Just be aware.

    • @CruiseSeakers
      @CruiseSeakers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Another cut to the house. 5.5% is just not enough. Lol. But 8.3% is probably a lot better than the house cut on the slots.

    Cruise ship slots are looser than land based, not tighter. Also, what you call a swing seat is known as 3rd Base. FYI

    • @CruiseSeakers
      @CruiseSeakers  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I really wish slots were looser. I have heard maybe on the first night. But from my wife’s math vs land based slots. We are averaging around a 75-82% payback. If you factor in comp cruises you might be getting close to even with land based.
      I always called it the swing seat. Swings the deck. I also have heard third base. But not as often. I use to play blackjack mostly in Atlantic City since I grew up in NY. Maybe an east coast thing?

      A rake is really not a house advantage but more like a service fee to run the game. But yes, it is exorbitant and abusive. When I play poker on the ship I pick one to two players that I spy to be poor players to target. And the. Get off the table. Can’t fool around with that rake. It will eventually bankrupt everyone if you dabble in lots of pots. Pick your hands and push to win those hands at all costs.

    I agree with you, don't gamble any money you can't afford to lose!
    Its entertainment like an excursion, drinking package, etc.!
    Your comment with payouts not so much, because all casinos have to make a profit after what they give back as comp!
    I was a big land based gambler years ago, got free trips to Vegas including flights from the east coast, and my comps are better from cruise lines than land-based casinos!
    Personally when I played machines I didn't see much difference between the Vegas Strip and Cruise Casinos!
    Carnival and RCL partner with land based casino companies last I knew so the payouts are likely close!
    Another consideration, you get noticed and get more comps while on the ship like free steak house, free excursions, free spa, etc if you're 'not' on a gambling cruise, cause those cruises have a lot of big gamblers you compete with for a limited amount of comps the casino has to hand out!
    Some of those gambling cruises I'm talking about are Carnivals tournament cruises, Elite and Ultra cruises! Forget the RCL ones by name, but they give out comps like free cruises on the maiden voyages of their new ships with all the top RCL brass!

    I tend to take a bath when gambling on cruise ships. I always move my vacation money into my checking account and only take my debit card and some cash. I leave credit cards at home so, I do only lose what I can afford to lose but, those losses tend happen rather quickly.

    • @CruiseSeakers
      @CruiseSeakers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cruise ships have the worst odds for the player so a bank roll can go fast. I go knowing that the odds are I will lose the bank roll and just hope to play with it long enough to gain a significant amount of casino loyalty points to compensate the loss with a free cruise over time.
      I think of it like pre paying. Lol

    • @CruiseSeakers
      @CruiseSeakers  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They are all pretty abusive. Even Royal. The standard is 10% with Royal being the least abusive because they have a cap of 15.00. Which is still to dang high. Way to much money funneled to the casino every hand never to be seen again as potential winnings.

    • @MC-gj8fg
      @MC-gj8fg ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CruiseSeakers While $15 is basically double any live casino, someone was telling me that there was no cap which I simply couldn't believe. Glad to hear that isn't true. Still, unless they're spreading 5-10 and up it'll be a hard rake to stay ahead of.

    • @CruiseSeakers

      @@MC-gj8fg Royal was the only line that had a cap. All electric tables have no cap. Which is impossible to deal with.
      Still on ships, there are not many players. Easy marks are tapped out quick. I actually root for them to give some one a bad beat when I’m not against them so money becomes more available lol.
      That leaves good players and a rake that’s hard to keep ahead of. I love playing poker. On ships I usually keep to the tournaments. Mainly to get my fix and stay away from the abuse from the rakes.

      When on a Celebrity cruise I watched a Hold 'Em table for awhile, considering whether or not to play. After a $250 pot the dealer raked $25. Standing by the table, I just blurted out, "You rake 10%?!?!" The dealer said, "Yes..." and started to say something else, but I was already walking away. That is just ludicrous and there is no reason for it. I'll go to Vegas when I want to gamble and on a cruise when I want to cruise. Never will they cross over to each other!!!
