I used to go to land-based casinos five times a week. Not anymore. I only play on cruise ships, they give me free cabins, sometimes inside and sometimes suites and everything in between. The also give me from $200 to $2000 in free play. Having said that let me add that I win as much on the ship as I did on the land-based casino. They all take my money, but at least I get a free cruise, and I don't lose any more on water as I did on land.

On my Caribbean cruise on the Royal Princess,I played craps each night on the 7 day cruise from Ft. Lauderdale. I brought about $200.00/ night play money but I ended up winning between $200-300.00/night in winnings. So, each night, I went to the pursers office and paid any costs charged to my cruise account. I could get all my drinks, excursions and any other charges all paid for and at the end of my cruise, I owed nothing and still went home with all my spending cash I brought with me for the cruise and I got essentially anything I wanted when I was on that vacation. I bought my specially hand rolled cigars I like, I had all my souvenirs paid for, jewelry covered and son on. It made my trip with no financial stress.

I can vouch for the players club on Royal Caribbean. I won 5 grand on a 25c video poker machine a couple of years ago and then the casino host gave my wife and I a free cruise. It was a Super Times Pay game. We did 2 free cruises in 2019 and had 2 cancelled in 2020. We are planning to use our free cruise in 2021. Now, the cruise fare is free but we have to pay taxes, gratuities, and drink packages, but I'll take a free balcony stateroom any time.

FYI fellow travellers, if you've gambled in Las Vegas before, keep in mind that Nevada State Gaming has regulations for Las Vegas casino slot machines to have a theoretical minimum payout limit of 75% (Regulation #14). It makes sure all Las Vegas slot machines actually pay out a minimum 75% of players' bets (theoretically). It prevents casinos from setting up their machines to pay out less than 75% or none at all. These cruise ship casinos dont have any regulations to follow or abide by since you are essentially gambling in international waters. Im sure they wouldn't, but the cruise ship could set up their slot machines to never pay out (or barely at all) since there are no regulations stopping them from doing so. If you want to gamble (and win), stick to the tables on cruise ships.

If you have non-refundable cruise credit, you can spend it at the casino rather than on excursions, etc. If you win anything, you get the cash. A hack to try: add some or all of your nonrefundable credit on to a slot machine, then cash out. You'll get a ticket that you can turn to cash. Or, place one small bet, then cash out. Either way, you win.

I only worked on a cruise ship (NCL) for 2 weeks as a musical entertainer (crew is definitely not allowed to gamble) and I met a lady on the second day who told me she and her husband lived close to Miami and were on an emailing list for last minute cruises to fill up the ship at a discounted rate. @@wildestcowboy2668 Not true, Wildestcowboy. I was on the NCL Bliss to Alaska last July. I won over $10,500. I never expect to win at ANY casino. I take what I want to gamble with and what I'm comfortable in spending on my entertainment. If I end up with more than I brought, that's a bonus. I remember once being in a casino and hearing (behind me) a gal begging her guy NOT to put the money in the slot he was playing because it was the rent money. People who can't afford to play should stay out of a casino. I certainly wouldn't play if I didn't have extra spending money.

Another point on casino placement in a ship is that they are often located in a location which has the least movement. Feeling seasick during a rough sea day, head over to the casino and you may very well feel a bit better.

My next cruise, they cut my fare by $1,000 compared to normal pricing and even invited me for a free interior room [for a different cruise] to participate in a slot and blackjack tournament. I'm no hardcore gambler, but do appreciate when I can get a good bargain for a trip.

People like you are exactly what the cruise liners want (as a guest). Give you comped deals, and in return, you end up paying for it all on the back end, from things like gambling, and upcharges/any purchases made during trip. NOT a knock on you at all! I don't see a thing wrong with getting a great deal, then turning around and enjoying yourself with your savings!!!
It's a win-win. The company isn't getting the type of people on board who WON'T spend anything extra, and the people who get the nice offers feel appreciated, therefore, are more willing to shell out the dough for extras and amenities. I call this a good business model!!!!!!!!

The next day he visited my table again but he went inside the cordoned area and gave me a back hug... Saying i was his lucky charm( crazy bastard!) ...had to shout for security to rescue me... I've seen age 21 minimums on Alaska itineraries, though. There are NO regulatory bodies that govern cruise casinos. They are in international waters. The one thing that governs them is competition based on the market. If it gets out that cruise line "a" is paying out at 50% and cruise line "b" is paying out at 93% where will the demographic interested in gambling go? As a professional gambler the last place I would go to earn a living is a cruise ship. I would go there to have fun and burn comps from programs where I earned those free trips based on land based play.

Seven years ago, I was on a cruise and playing Craps, and I noticed something interesting. They kept changing dice for no discernible reason. Then I noticed that the dice went "cold" when there were a bunch of players playing Pass, and "warmed up" some when there were few players. So I played Don't Pass (which I do about 1% of the time usually) when the table had more players, and Pass when there were only one or two other than myself. The dealers were trying not to smile, and the pit critters were glaring at me. I smiled back. I took my decent but not huge winnings, cashed out, and played blackjack the rest of my time in the casino, which I limited intentionally.
I'm not saying they were using funny dice, but with no regulation, how was I to know?

@@andrescullen4703 I completely agree. I believe the roulette wheels are totally rigged, but I’ve still been able to slowly win, especially when you’re at a full table.

@@WilfBond55 doubt they are using funny dice. The thing is simple: as a casino, if you keep throwing more variables into a random game, the more likely you will see "expected" outcomes. dice changes to keep rhythm down. all kinds of stuff a casino can do to not cheat...but also help themselves in long term EV. dealer changes outta nowhere when it isn't their break. changing cards when they just got changed a couple hours previously. all kinds of legal but shady stuff...all to get every dollar they can.

Not on European cruises. And, in my experience, lines catering to many European customers do not have large casinos and are often deserted. The last few cruises I took, the casino was one roulette table, one blackjack and about 20 machines of varying types. The bingo events in the bar across the walkway are much more popular. For years, the UK only permitted casinos if they were private members only clubs, rules have slackened in the last couple of decades but it’s just not part of the culture for the vast majority (especially of the older travellers).

I can manage to break even playing the single deck 6/5 BJ by counter cards. Druing my last free 12 day cruise to Hawaii, I broke even playing the whole trip. They don't care if players raise bet from $10 to $150. I only raise 5 times, from $10 to $60. I got barred from a few casinos in Vegas doing just that.
I am not trying making money in the casino. I just want to break even. With my gambling actions on cruise ship, I have been taking five or six 12-15 days cruises for free all over the world. They are $5,000 to $7,000 for me and my wife, if I have to pay for them. I am basically "winning" close to $30,000 every year, if I don't loose.
It is almost imposible to win at casino on cruise ships, unless you are lucky. Just play and have fun using a gambling budget. BJ and Craps have the best odds.
6/5 BJ and Craps are about 1.5% negative odds against the players. By counting cards on BJ, I can reduce it to under 1%. Craps is different. Normally you get 7 once every 6 roll. I have a table at home that I practice certain dice set and my toss. My 7 out average is 1 out of 10 times average. That's why I can manage to break even at the craps table on the ship.
