There's a lot of editing to get it to this level. If you check out this live segment, you'll see he is a good amateur vocalist, but certainly it's not his forte. You may like how raw it is, but it is objectively not very in tune. th-cam.com/video/kE6oxVIccok/w-d-xo.html
I have no idea because Cruel Melody is a masterpiece. My best guess is that the subsequent albums departed too much from what they established with CM, although they were still good in their own right. That along with the fact that there hasn’t been any new material from BLB since Lotus Island.
This type of music was on its way out of radio stations, at the time. It got some play time, but it was riding the edge of some 00's ideas that had been overplayed. It's aged well today, as a 00's metal song.
This was an ABSOLUTE hidden gem of the late nu metal era. Seriously. If you've never heard Cruel Melody you would be doing yourself a favor by giving it listen.
I’m as a songwriter, both composer and lyricist I have a super high standard for what I consider great lyrics. Even though heavy music is my favorite style, most of its lyrics kinda suck. They basically just straight forward communication that rhymes. “by the time I get home you are already stoned you turn off the tv and. You scream at me. I can’t wait for the day when I leave this place”. Lie definitely stands above most in its genre. It early expresses a relatable feeling and situation but it’s done in such an intentionally brilliant way that you are only meant to relate to it if you are intelligent enough to understand. Genius.
I like what Wes is doing here, and I know people may not agree with me, but he is a good guitar player. So he could be playing the guitar too and create more power .
I gotta be honest, I always thought Wes kinda created this super creepy character in Limp Bizkit m because he was super self aware about his kinda goofy, not super handsome looks. And in the early 2000s, as 15 year old a round faced fat kid, with a big clump of clay for a nose I honestly really respected for it… but holy hell, this performance, I mean I’ve never given it to a guy before but I would definitely give it to him. He is just so sexy in this. I love girls but I’ve always suspected that my fence may not have one way hinge but watching and listening to Wes just grabbed my fence and gave it a hard push in the other direction. So Wes thank you for opening up my mind with your unique approach to music, your incredibly emotionally intelligent lyric and your hot bod and face. (This is not a joke. Really learned something about myself.)
I completely agree, it's also crossed my mind. Wes's voice over Trent's genius!? ( not taking anything from Wes, Cruel Melody was a catalyst for me and still continues to be.
Gotta love Wes letting out his Trent Reznor influence . Didn't expect a great song but that industrial metal vibe on this hits hard than anything he does in the latest albums of Limps.
in the style of NIN we need bands like this back that died out n Wes needs to bring this back. not annoying like Freds voice in LB. played the hell out of this album back in 07!! Loved others than Lie. Coward, Mesopothamia, etc
Honestly Wes has more of a chance of success through female audiences than male seeing as he wore the mask of many women's fantasies throughout his limp Bizkit career. Hell, I am partial to his many faces myself! Wishing you the best of luck fortune and fame, Wes!
Sounds like Korn trying to make a NIN song and Marilyn Manson’s wardrobe people were available for the shoot... which is awesome 😎 LOVE YOU WES! Idc what you say, I’m totally Limpin’ with the Bizkit!
i wish all the modern metal bands recorded with this production technique, it would actually sound killer. modern music is so processed and messed with it all sounds like little clicks and white noise, this music actually sounds like a band, like a pissed off harley taking off from a red light, not like R2-D2 working a cash register
Can we highlight the fact that this is even industrial rock/metal, which is supposed to have electronic elements? There's a way to make music sound sound human, even industrial metal. The human touch is one of the largest factors in making most music sound good. When you start auto tuning and quantizing, that human touch is gone, and its "perfection" sounds boring. Take Killing Joke for example. They're credited with inventing most industrial rock and metal, and their music at the same time is so tribal and raw.
Man I have to fight in my band to keep the soul in it. My guitarist is hellbent on making everything sound "perfect", where I feel like it should sound like us playing music.
Could have seen this in a soundtrack for matrix or girl with the dragon tattoo or underworld... deffo puscifer and nin would have also been on that fictitious soundtrack. Rad!
Wish this had taken off a bit more. Hes a better singer then Fred Durst. Or i wish hed do this and Limp Bizkit. Mark Tremonti makes solo albums, is in Alter bridge and creed still comes around once in a while.

Josh Freese. He is amazing. I saw him play live with Nine Inch Nails and he was phenomenal. His drumming on Judith by A Perfect Circle is unbelievable.
I think this song is pretty interesting from a lyrical point of view. I wonder if Wes was referring to himself when he wrote the lyrics or if he was telling the story of a fictional character. I think he's an underrated lyricist, as well as being a great guitar player and riff-writer.
@@MsRedbelly You're right. "Coward" is another interesting track from this record. I just listened to it again today. Wes doesn't really seem like a narcissist to me though. Fred Durst surely could be one.
I’d love to know the story behind his lyrics. I played ‘Coward’ recently & my narcissistic ex partner said ‘I heard the song & I get what you are saying’ ..he meant by playing it right after he’d said something messed up to me. I really like the intensity of emotion in both songs vocals.
Actually, Wes wrote and played everything himself then gave the demo to Trent Reznor and was told "You're singing like you're afraid of waking the neighbours". So it's all Wes but after he quit NIN.
Wes Borland is one helluva vocalist for being known as guitarist!!! We all love you Wes!!!

What a great song, I love it! I put it into my "Shellshocked Radio - Recommendations" List: th-cam.com/video/DN9JeTQdMKg/w-d-xo.html Very well done!
Wes was easily the best part of Limp Bizkit. The guy is definitely talented
He holds more talent in one finger than Durst possessed at all.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Fred was the voice of the band and also has one of the best voices in metal.
In my opinion John and Sam are equaly good. Bizkit has great musicians.
I thought Otto was descent
True I can hear his influence in limp bizkit now I heard the legend doing his own thing
Black Light Burns was so criminally underrated
The bridge and outro riff is completely fantastic. One of my all time favorites. Wes is such a unique riff writer.
I just wish he were playing them. Man I've loved watching him play.
Still listening in '24 this album was an absolute masterpiece in my eyes. One of my favorites.
SHIIIT! a decade to find this song FINALLY!
Good song by a underrated band
I didn't know Wes sings, he's got a great voice
He did backing vocals in Limp Bizkit
I wrote a model composition for Wes with Groove Pad using Techno Serum sound kit
Yeah he is really talented
He did a lot of the backing unclean vocals in Limp Bizkit
Should've done lead vocals.
This is fucking brutal. How wasn't this more well known?

its my favourite part in the song. it’s so expected but then your like woah there’s no way that just happened
Wes Borland is way more than just Limp Bizkit. This man is very creative with his rhythms and usage of unique sound textures on the guitar.
This sounds like if NIN and Stabbing Westward had a baby.
Jason Hamilton more like a miscarriage
I absolutely love BOTH of those bands I hope they are still doing things I would love to hear some more stuff from them
Tt Tt Sounds like you need your diaper changed. Better call your Mother.
Reminds me of Gravity kills

feels like 90's manson, NIN and few others! I love it!!
Hint of Korn too
Love that bass in the chorus. So gritty and just diggin it!
This is one of the greatest rock songs of the last 25 years. And the rest of the album is fantastic. How was this album not a massive hit?

I'm living a lie
And it's not the best thing for me
But anyone and everyone is gonna hear another story
I'm building a house
Of murderous intention
To keep it all from coming down
I've gotta focus my attention
'cause confidence is key
When violating trust
I'm making sure that I believe
I'm doing what I must
Which is attempting to kill
The little boy inside
But as hard as I try...
The child will not die
Now I'm burning alive, just like you
I'm irrelevant
And I'm living down in the shit
I follow these pigs around
But I never get used to it
'cause they keep building and building
Their feculent franchise
I wish I could see this filth
Through someone else's eyes
'cause ignorance was bliss
But now I must adjust
These animals, they operate
On jealousy and lust
I'm taking back what was lost
And I will not be denied
I'm crawling my way to the surface outside
Now I'm burning alive, just like you
