Hey folks. Wes B here. To answer your questions about my guitar looking like crap, well, the fact of the matter is that I am rough on my equipment. This is a touring guitar. I want there to be an obvious cover over the neck position because I like that it looks modified and one day may want to drop a PU back in. Some of the hardware is rusty, yes, but we clean it off every couple of days. That happens with the amount of water being thrown around on stage.
I also really enjoyed having the empty pot holes filled with a different material because it's a left handed guitar that I was proud to convert and I want the footprint of those cavities to remain visible like scars. I like used and modified looking guitars. And no James Coleman. I'm not kidding. Pristine guitars are not my thing. I like them to have character. Thanks for the kind words from some of you others. It's still not the best guitar in the world, but it's one of my favorites in my "collection" just because I worked on it. oh shit, I didn't know the floyd rose pins were supposed to be off center. I analysed the frequencies during a bend and saw that the notes didn't bend in unison with the other strings (notes detuned as the bend increased) so I tried to compensate by changing the bridge settings, but that just fucked up the intonation. so I figured that floyd roses just suck and never bought another one. I'm much happier with my Gretsch floating bridge. I've played some Jacksons with floating bridges that didn't have the detuning problem, but instead would never go back to the home position. My Gretsch works flawlessly and I like the tone I get from the hollow body even when playing with heavy distortion.
Anyone else find it weird when watching this video, you have to understand that he plays for limp bizkit? Its just a weird contrast looking at him and imagining fred durst as his vocalist.
+AxHakker fred isn't an asshole, he really isn't-at all-what people have negatively hyped him up to be. he's a man's man in a world where the general population is getting wimpier and wimpier. thanks to fluroridated drinking water, smartphones, social media, and the pro drug movement.
Goes to show how little Jackson thought of Wes Borland. "Here Wes. Here's a throwaway guitar somebody didn't want, so it's either you or we burn it, because it's not worth our time and effort to build you a custom guitar from scratch."
***** You say he doesn't know what he is talking about...Clearly he knows exactly what hes talking. It's a lot of work and takes a lot of fucking around. I dont like Jackson guitars personally. But in what part of this video does he "not know what hes talking about". And this "cheap artist" is pretty fucking successful.
***** I didnt tell you you couldnt say anything. I responded to your comment saying he doesnt even know what hes talking about in this video..Which he clearly does if you know anything about about setting up guitars.
I was going to say this is like what someone that has not made it would have to do... After reading your explanation, complete new respect and understanding. A true artist you are my friend... I love that guitar too, and all you put in it made it your work of art.
I was born in 96, grew up a young kid listening to limp bizkit - my way. when I was 4 and 5 it was my favorite song. I’m 27 now and I appreciate you for everything you guys have done on my young impressionable mind. Rock on forever Wes!
I dig it. I love guitars with obvious modifications that are clearly for playing. One of my favorite personal guitars is a mutt Jackson Kelly I pieced together from eBay parts and stuff I had lying around. Ended up re-routing the Floyd Rose cavity with a hand chisel to fit an old 80’s Kahler trem system, recessed kinda like the one on Jerry Cantrell’s G&L. This reminds me of that one.
if anything the fact he had to work on it is even better. this shows his true love for guitar and making it his own and instead of just buying another 3000 dollar guitar he took a cheap one and made it his own. true passion for the craft and his music and thats what makes it awsome.
Yeah, it's definitely a Seymour Duncan Invader, I swap out all the bridge pups on my guitars for 'em. They're awesome and make your harmonics sound great!
Don't get an invader. Worst pickup I ever owned. There's little to nothing you can't do with a SD JB. From blues to Grind, there's nothing it can't play. The invader I don't know what it's good for, it's just muddy and super compressed...
I am a big fan of you Wes. Searching for your other projects I discover this video. Now I find you're an engineer and a painter too. A genius artist is an understatement for you.
Cool to watch/read Wes just being his kid self exploring with his guitar. Passion is key. But some people gotta hate. Guess it's just one of those days......
Wes you are 100 percent right i agree. I have a huge collection of guitars. My favorite is a Paoletti da vinnci . Made from 200 year old wine barrels. Roasted ample neck. all enlays are olive wood.
there are artists with way worse lyrical content then lb and they dont get half the shit lb does. and whats annoying about the singer? most of the hate i see about him is realy just because he's rapping and they dont like rap.
Fred is what killed limp bizkit. Haven't you noticed hotdog flavored water was mostly hijacked lyrics from nine inch nails and others? He has no talent and just sounds whiney now. I was into them up till significant other then he just became too whiney for me stealing other people lines.
It just shows you; art is about fun not work. If you've got the passion, energy, soul, imagination, confidence, charisma and originality, you make art that lots of ppl enjoy.
I can’t tell how many times I’ve watched this video. I love how Wes modifies his guitars and explaining what he did and why. Most people mod their guitars, either when they get them or during it’s life
One of the coolest and most talented guys in music…hoping your album Crystal Machete gets released on vinyl at some point…your song The Cliffs gives me the chills every time I hear it…such a brilliant track
I completely agree with wanting a project over the finished article. I feel a bit like that with my bonsai trees or anythong that talkes time and effort. The journey and satisfaction you get maoing these things yourself is pure joy and i couldn't hwve it another way. I love you wes! Legend
I agree with Wes when you build or modify a guitar yourself. It becomes one of your favorites. I build a sunburst starcaster fender into a super strat with locking machine head tuners, full block vintage tremolo, Double rail humbucker in the bridge position. And a roasted maple neck with bone nut. Play it over all my other much more expensive guitars. It was a gifted to me guitar from a friend as well. The neck had horrible fret buzz and seemed like a smaller scale size. Had to be switched cause it seemed as though the truss rod was broken or not responding to adjustments. Has some minor body scratches here and there. It polished out nicely! Love the sunburst old look with the roasted maple neck on it. Strats arent my usual style. I have two Jacksons. One is a japanese Dinky pro series from 92. Reverse headstock, shark tooth inlays, 24 fret schaller branded jackson floyd rose made in germany tremolo. Also have a Randy V in natural without locking tremolo, Just tune o matic bridge. Love them both.
Mr. Borland, your guitar does not look like crap. It is an extension of who you are and you also re-did it to your specifications. I have a King V Pro that I modified and to me it does not look like crap. I really love the look and also admire the heart and soul you put into this guitar that was rejected. Your king V is not only your own personalized, but it is a work of art in my opinion. It shows the genius that you are. Keep doing what your doing.
Great video. TotalGuitar doesn't always have to be about showing off the coolest guitar. Thumbs up for showing a guitar player's love for his guitar. =]
Wes you engineer your own solutions ,a rare quality thanks for the video , its encouraging to see people thinking and using their own electronics solutions again ! excellent !!
Love what he said at the end, I am exactly the same with my B.C.Rich, been my first electric guitar and had it over 12 years...Still love it and just did a complete hardware change and electronics.. Look after your instruments boys and girls and they will look after you.:)
I don't see why you'd put so much work into that guitar when you can just get a properly made model. The steel eye-hooks is a unique idea, I hope he drilled a pilot hole though. If you're Wes Borland, I would assume that you'd be able to own more than one strap!
Well its like people who do home improvement or rebuilding a computer. Its what they enjoy doing instead of watching tv or going to a party. Its true most people will just go buy a factory made new model, but some people enjoy the time rebuilding. Its a way to kill time and see what you can do.
I feel like me and wes would have a sick jam. What a great player. I have tons of bangs and scratches on my guitar. It comes with ACTUALLY playing it. Keep up the good work ! You're a very inspiring player.
I have that guitar, and it's had a lot of work done with the truss rod and neck. Since I started playing it through a Silver Jubilee, I knew it was the ultimate guitar that I had the guy get the pickups changed to a Dimebucker and a JB 59.
There is a difference between randomly giving out a flawed guitar to anyone, and giving a flawed guitar to someone that endorses/and is endorsed by Jackson. That means he plays their guitars, and they pay him. Purposely giving a musician who works for you a flawed instrument, that would been thrown away, is far beyond rude, it's a slap in the face.
And we have come full circle. You went from responding to my comment, to a different topic all together. Don't waste my time or your time and reposed, because I won't.
And lastly, I don't want Jackson to build anything I want. Part of the fun of what I do is getting to experiment. A lot of guitarists don't understand me because I'm a visual artist first and I don't approach the guitar in the same way that traditional players do. Wes reminds me of the dude from “no country for Old men” and I like that.
Love the eyehole screw idea.. fkn hate standard straplocks for just the reason he explained..
I personally liked his signature Yamaha. js. Very classy looking guitar
Very interesting to see a pro-level guitarist heavily modding a guitar (changing a lefty to a righty). Very unique video :-)
Mr Borland you are one of my favorite guitarist you rock!
oh shit, I didn't know the floyd rose pins were supposed to be off center.
The pins aren't off centre on a Floyd. I think he was referring to the routed cavity because the sustain block is off centre.
Anyone else find it weird when watching this video, you have to understand that he plays for limp bizkit? Its just a weird contrast looking at him and imagining fred durst as his vocalist.
+AxHakker fred isn't an asshole, he really isn't-at all-what people have negatively hyped him up to be. he's a man's man in a world where the general population is getting wimpier and wimpier. thanks to fluroridated drinking water, smartphones, social media, and the pro drug movement.
he plays in other bands too ya know, check out his other works,he's a great guitarist
I couldn't give a shit who he plays for.
@Dylan Gruenloh Why are you even reasoning with "milfpatrol69" tho
Dylan Gruenloh Smart phones and social media are 100% making a negative impact on people and society.
Goes to show how little Jackson thought of Wes Borland. "Here Wes. Here's a throwaway guitar somebody didn't want, so it's either you or we burn it, because it's not worth our time and effort to build you a custom guitar from scratch."
+6672rock Apparently Jackson aren't great to their endorsed artists. They're quite cheap.
+Luis Avila Have you ever flipped a floyd rose? Fucking idiot.
+Narf if you dont like limp bizkit why are you watching this
Wes throwing his faulty Jackson V to the Lollapalooza 2021 audience brought me here.
It was this one?
@@djpotassium nope this was the main guitar and IMO was superior to the one he chucked to the crowd.
@@dodjiegarcia2320 ahh ok yeah the one he played after sounded great!
I was going to say this is like what someone that has not made it would have to do... After reading your explanation, complete new respect and understanding. A true artist you are my friend... I love that guitar too, and all you put in it made it your work of art.
nice to see a dude real serious about his music. you can tell how into it he is, it's real rad.
I was born in 96, grew up a young kid listening to limp bizkit - my way. when I was 4 and 5 it was my favorite song. I’m 27 now and I appreciate you for everything you guys have done on my young impressionable mind. Rock on forever Wes!
this guitar has so much soul in it..
His voice sounds like Ben stiller with a slight cold.
if anything the fact he had to work on it is even better. this shows his true love for guitar and making it his own and instead of just buying another 3000 dollar guitar he took a cheap one and made it his own. true passion for the craft and his music and thats what makes it awsome.
LOL why does Wes get 2nd hand, B-stock returned Jacksons??? You would think since he's sponsored by them he would get any kind he wants right ?
Because the rep knows him and the fact that he likes to tinker with stuff like that
That bad boy went airborne in Chicago a few weeks ago. Rumor has it that 4 guys went home with pieces of it.
Les is the coolest part of Limp Bizkit.
Stockton Native Gotta love Les
RFSA180 He's way cooler than Ned Durst.
Stockton Native 😂 fummiest connent all day!
I'm going to see the mighty Pilm Biscuit next week. love Sam Waters too
and Jeff Otto
That pickup looks like a Duncan - Invader.
I have one in my Charvel. Love that pickup!
He didn't talk bout the pickup I think it's an invader which I'm thinking bout getting
+austin cutty get them, theyr're amazing. put one in my strat, sounds great
Yeah, it's definitely a Seymour Duncan Invader, I swap out all the bridge pups on my guitars for 'em. They're awesome and make your harmonics sound great!
+austin cutty It is indeed an Invader. I had one and it actually grabbed the strings on dive bombs because the magnets are so strong.
great pick ups :)
It’s just sad how someone as big and famous as Wes Borland has to give explanations to the internet warriors
Dude, you are bad ass. A real professional who takes his craft very serious. Thank you!!!
Damn you Mr. Borland for stealing the dreams of left-handed players!
It's okay, I did that to a right handed Jackson so I guess we are even :P
i am left handed since birth but somehow translated into left handed drummer and right handed bass/guitar player - go figure
Cool to watch/read Wes just being his kid self exploring with his guitar. Passion is key. But some people gotta hate. Guess it's just one of those days......
Wes Borland from big dumb face, I love there only album aged better than Limp Bizkit.
open springed hook attachment, ( its called a bridal snap)
Limp Bizkit are fucking great man. I feel bad for people that don’t get where they’re coming from. I like them even more bc people hate them lol
Wes you are 100 percent right i agree. I have a huge collection of guitars. My favorite is a Paoletti da vinnci . Made from 200 year old wine barrels. Roasted ample neck. all enlays are olive wood.
I don't know why people hate LB. Great fucking band, Fred Durst is a great front man as well...
there are artists with way worse lyrical content then lb and they dont get half the shit lb does. and whats annoying about the singer? most of the hate i see about him is realy just because he's rapping and they dont like rap.
Ridiculous hater comments
I can’t tell how many times I’ve watched this video. I love how Wes modifies his guitars and explaining what he did and why. Most people mod their guitars, either when they get them or during it’s life
Such an underrated guitarist.
Wes is such a great musician, I believe he proved he can re-arrange anything and make it work
awesome guitarist with great passion.
One of the coolest and most talented guys in music…hoping your album Crystal Machete gets released on vinyl at some point…your song The Cliffs gives me the chills every time I hear it…such a brilliant track
Crystal Machete is available on Vinyl, at least it was
That's what I call a guitar with personality
I completely agree with wanting a project over the finished article. I feel a bit like that with my bonsai trees or anythong that talkes time and effort. The journey and satisfaction you get maoing these things yourself is pure joy and i couldn't hwve it another way. I love you wes! Legend
How do I make/get one of those pickup cavity covers?
Serious question. Thanks :)
FaceInTheWindow lel virgin 4 life right here folks
A shout out for Loog! Awesome. My 5 and 7 year olds both have one.... perhaps they’ll be in Wes Borland’s shoes one day!
jeff goldblum
Lol he does sound like him. But he can't touch jeff in his prime.
+EGGJAZZ with talent
"I don't know why some people are so crazy" oohhh wes the irony in that is lost on you
Shaun Luxon He meant "Why throw away a perfectly good guitar?"
Great video. TotalGuitar doesn't always have to be about showing off the coolest guitar. Thumbs up for showing a guitar player's love for his guitar. =]
What pickups are those? Invaders?
+Wei Xian Ng i thought that too
Wes you engineer your own solutions ,a rare quality thanks for the video , its encouraging to see people thinking and using their own electronics solutions again ! excellent !!
he is supprisingly not an asshole
he is a asshole to his fans, check his instagram
Love what he said at the end, I am exactly the same with my B.C.Rich, been my first electric guitar and had it over 12 years...Still love it and just did a complete hardware change and electronics.. Look after your instruments boys and girls and they will look after you.:)
Good on him, but the whole time the only word rattling around in my head is "WHY?"
ghostdog2041 too much time
So dope, someone returned that
I don't see why you'd put so much work into that guitar when you can just get a properly made model.
This is sick. My favorite guitar he’s played is the super rare orange Ibanez RG7, but I appreciate taking what’s in front of you and making it work.
I want to see Wes and Buckethead playing together in their costumes
Would be a Odd couple...
One playing Riffs like hell and the other One shredding like hell...
I feel like me and wes would have a sick jam. What a great player. I have tons of bangs and scratches on my guitar. It comes with ACTUALLY playing it. Keep up the good work ! You're a very inspiring player.
kool i dig Frankenstein guitars
What way to go! I love you it. Give the guitar life and will sing to you.
Weird seeing him without his unusual costumes or being painted black from head to toe.
I always knew Wes was an amazing guitarist now I know he's a all around awesome guy!!!
No guitarist, ever, has managed in inject "feel" to high gain/high compression tone like Wes.
I don't know what you're talking about. Can you explain?
This guys fashion is slick. A gentleman at heart.
We need to protect this man at all costs. Wes is amazing
Gay comment.. Add that he's underrated and a national treasure.
His creativity makes his guitar unique. No one can buy anything like it.
Gotta luv that guy =D
I have that guitar, and it's had a lot of work done with the truss rod and neck. Since I started playing it through a Silver Jubilee, I knew it was the ultimate guitar that I had the guy get the pickups changed to a Dimebucker and a JB 59.
I find it kind of rude that Jackson offered him a "flawed" guitars.
Greencheese333 I thought I was the only one!
I just took it as Jackson saying they were going to throw them away or you can take them on the road and beat the sh*t out of them.
It may have been that.
The soul of LB right there ! I am building a custom one off baritone right now . I love experimenting with my axes !
