The locals consider them “indestructible.” But the law-in the form of a corrupt special deputy (Guy Pearce)-wants a cut of their action, at any cost. When youngest brother Jack (LaBeouf) gets a taste of power with a deadly gangster (Gary Oldman) the whole business blows sky high. Based on the astonishing true story, the Bondurant brotherhood is the stuff of legend.

Foot washing is big in rural southern churches. Jesus washed the feet of his disciples, it teaches humility.
It's also in the Catholic faith only once a year on Holy Thursday preceding Easter. The priest is the one doing it.
This music was also in the movie Cold Mountain.

In 42 years as a Christian I have never experienced or heard of a foot washing ceremony anywhere in any city I've lived in.
I'm not a Christian nor have I read the bible but doesn't it say at some point Jesus washed someones feet? I'm guessing this is why they're doing it

Jesus washed his disciples feet, I believe that Mary Magdalene washed Jesus' feet with her hair and perfume, and I think it was standard practice among dinner guests back then because they only wore sandals. My point was that in today's society (American) nobody would even consider this practice.

Anyone know what religion they are practicing?? Because I've read some answers say it's Mennonite and then some answers said it was German Baptist brethren.
It’s supposed to be German baptist or dunkard brethren, it’s not a realistic representation though. Just cool for the movie. They would be very similar to Mennonite or Amish of the same time period.
looks like Quakers to me..... they sing without instruments and sit together in that way and live quiet, modest lives.
