I will update my journey of selling low end card over here. Been buying lots of basketball, star player base insert under $10 is what I looking for. Positive about my $1000 flipping challenge. #Volume,Volume, Volume
This is the catch-22 for those who are just starting out with cards. While it's certainly possible to build a nice collection starting with $20, it's much easier to do so if you have been back in the collecting game for a while. It takes time to learn about what cards sell and what they sell for and there's a learning curve. Always enjoy the content and keep producing the quality content!
Definitely a catch-22, Jeffery. When I first started out selling lower end sports cards, I had to quickly learn what cards sell and which ones don't. It was a lot of experimentation when buying lots. Now when I go into card shows, I'm more efficient at finding cards that will sell, but I still run into cards that don't sell quickly. It's constant learning when sourcing for cards, but to me that's the fun of doing this. I get to thumb through many cards and it's the thrill of the hunt that gets me excited. Thanks for the comment and support as always!
Its not just low price cards not selling. I have cards from $10 to $1000 been selling for over 20 years. I averaged 25 sales per day last year right now selling 8 cards a day. Lots of people have left the hobby and many others believe prices will drop even more in the coming months. I have lowered my prices but still very little sales.
Thanks for providing this perspective, Rudi! It would see that all card sales have been dipping across the board. My sales have taken a sight hit since February as I have not been selling the amount of volume I have been in the previous months, but that can also be the fact that we are now out of Q4 and the amount being spent has dropped. Couple that with the rise in the cost of living expenses and everything opening back up, people are choosing to spend their hard earned money on other things other than sports cards.
Thanks for the update. I will have to agree if you selling low end, your inventory will need to be larger. Luckily this is all in good fun but if doing this as a business. Phew you will be sweating bullets lol.
No problem! And thank you for your support! Even though I run a eBay store, this $20 challenge is all for fun, so I'm not really sweating bullets on this one, lol. I find it as a nice little experiment to see what I can do with just $20!
I am just finding your videos through a google search. You may have answered this already, and I will check through more videos, but the whole shipping aspect concerns me. How much are you charging? I mean, I cant imagine too many people want to buy a $1.99 card knowing it is not worth much more than that, if at all, and then pay $2 for shipping. Or raise the price of the card to cover your cost of postage, mailer, and top loader too high and they just got with the 1.99 + free shipping card 😬
Good question Brandon. I used to do $0.91 shipping as it helps cover most of the fees and the cost of shipping (usually $0.53), which helps net a small profit most times. Lately I've been going the route of free shipping and adjusting the price to take it in consideration. Most times when I sell a card for $1.99, my net profit is $0.93 per order. If a buyer buys multiple cards in one order, it helps cut the cost of fees from eBay. My hope is that I can entice buyers to buy more than one card with the free shipping applied. I made a video in regards to standard shipping and made a comment exactly as you said... most people are not willing to pay for a card in which the shipping cost is more than the card itself. That's been my line of thinking in how I try to price my cards and take into account free shipping.
I mainly sell as singles, however I am starting to lean towards posing some lots with the cards that have been sitting in my store for quite sometime. Great suggestion for the video topic! I will be looking into doing one of those videos.
Love the lesson you are sharing with this video. It’s true some lower end cards are just gonna be tough to sell even if they are good looking cards. Do you try and sell on different markets, like OfferUp, Mercari, or any other places like that or is it just eBay? Awesome content as always! Can’t wait for the next one!!!
Thanks Alpha! As of right now, I only use eBay to sell my cards. I'm not too experienced or too familiar with the other options although I have bought from Mercari before, just haven't really sold through them. I may end up using one of those other platforms in the future though.
Good content I got a question for you. I'm new Well back in this game how are you making monies from selling dollar cards when the postage cost more than what the card is worth? I can never figure that out for myself. I have many cards to sell, but it cost me $4 or more to send out USPS.
You can have buyers pay for shipping and charge a little extra to cover your shipping. But ebay has an option for Standard Envolope for Cards under $20. I always offer 1st class and the standard envelope option for my buyers. You can also make your own 1st class box by using two cardboard pieces. Hope that helps!
Hi Richard, like Cody said in the reply - eBay has a standard shipping option which can allow you to ship cards at $0.53 for 1 oz, $0.73 for 2 oz and $0.93 for 3 ounces. This is my main shipping method that I use. There is a con to it though - the tracking is not always reliable. I made previous video talking about it right here: th-cam.com/video/wj-AC8XUXqI/w-d-xo.html Thanks for the comment!
I usually list them as auction. I haven't ran an auction in quite some time. I do know of other low end card sellers who list some of their cards as auctions and it seems to work for them. It really depends on what you feel comfortable with. I can see others using auctions for cards that haven't sold in quite some time or for selling lots. I feel that either way works, but I guess it will depend on your preference and what strategy you want to go with. In terms of selling price, I look up recent sold prices and also look at what recent listings are priced as. Then my price will depend upon not only those 2 factors, but also how quickly I would like to sell the card. Thanks for the comment and my apologies for the late reply.

Have you had success selling cards as a Lot, or do recommend selling them as singles? Pls do a vid of the pros & cons on both! Thank you 😊

How do you sell them on eBay? Do you put them up for auction or do you have a buy it now option? Also, how do you know at what price to sell them for?
