Eldians and marleyans do have the same skin tone but the fact that the Eldian tribe is capable of telepathy and turning into titans is a good determinant to distinguish them as two separate ethnic groups.

At this point he had such a level of self-awarness about the world that it was impossible to enjoying a moment like this
I used to think along these lines whenever I saw the Ocean. It seemed like part of an infinite natural World, and it is- but beyond that ocean (the Atlantic) lies Europe who are mostly our friends, but a little farther we find enemy places like Russia, Iran, and China, whole nations who would conquer or destroy us if they could.

After catching up to season 4, the scene where Eren ask if killing all enemies would achieve freedom feels like he's asking himself rather than his friends. It's like Eren is asking his future self if that's really the only way to finally be free: by commiting global genocide.
It makes the scene even more heartbreaking the more I think about it that way.

Still not over them not making season 4.
I swear between WIT and their staff experiencing near-insolvency and KyoAni tragically losing many of their wonderful artists, I can hardly decide what’s more heartbreaking. Both animation studios put their heart into every little detail of the artworks that they produced and to see both of them being pressured by horrible working conditions, an attack and horrible work schedules imposed by the shitty higher-ups is just sad. I like Mappa but they follow right into WIT‘s footsteps of self-destruction with all the pressure they put on their workers. They will undeniably reach a point of no return of self-destruction, there’s a reason why the initial founder of Mappa left the company because they have started to become a working machine and not a creativity-led studio like Studio 4C for example.

Eren spent 10 years of his life believing when he finally got to see the ocean, he would finally be free. Only to finally get there and find out that's the farthest thing from the truth.

Because he wants revenge on the REAL enemy. Of all the oppression they have caused, of all the misery they have wrought, Eren cannot savor happiness until he destroys those who bring injustice.
Except for the part where he kills innocent people, I am someone who heavily relates to someone like Eren. It's a burden too hard to live with.
I wish God gives me power to take revenge on injustice. I am filled with nothing but anger, frustration, crippling depression, anguish, tragedy, and the realization that I am too powerless to do a damn thing as I sit on my ass while others suffering and dying through all sorts of wicked methods.
I keep a normal exterior of a human living a normal life because I doubt anyone cares to understand my point of view in the world. That alone is a huge burden.

This is THE scene from AoT. This is the scene I think about when this show comes up. The beauty, the pain. Endless possibilities and discovering the world is a cage larger than you could ever imagine. This is the best scene in attack on Titan, and it chokes me up every time.

As an anime only I don't think Eren ruined the mood. In fact I sympathize with him. He just learned his world is much larger than he could ever imagine and beyond their island continent there is an entire world that are his enemies. It's terrifying. ever since he was born, he was always him..
i honestly feel so bad for eren. so many ppl misunderstand him and it’s kind of frustrating sometimes. for the ppl who’re saying that eren ruined the mood, think about how he felt at that time. he was traumatized and plus he already saw the ocean in his father’s memories so he wasn’t as excited or fascinated as the other ppl in the squad. he’s clearly also disappointed at the fact that beyond the ocean wasn’t freedom just like he always believed. he also said that beyond the ocean there was more enemies and that they are not free yet, again, i feel so bad for him bc he just sonds so tired. this scene i think is one of the most saddest scenes in the anime. this is the scene where he finally broke and that the joyful and happy eren we used to know was officially gone. i haven’t read the manga but based on the spoilers i’ve seen he’s depressed af and he’s mentally not okay. i just wanna hug him sm :(

It's sad that Eren no longer has that excitement that he had at the very beginning of wanting to see the ocean, and it was the one thing that kept both Eren and Armin going, and after going through all of that shit of losing so many people and finding out the truth of things, it's still not over. Freedom still isn't there even after reaching the ocean. (I do know what is going on in the current chapters, just don't like spoilers.)

Everyone saw the Ocean as what they searched for years, expect for Eren. He only how big the world Is and that all of that Is the enemy they are fighting.
In short everyone finds realizzation to their hopes and Dreams, instead Eren saw only despair in a never ending battle.
Is incredible how the autor manages to turn something so simbolic as the Ocean from "almost Happy ending" into oppresing despair.

As of ending itself, when i watched it the thought " good or bad" didnt cross my mind, my brain just accepted it, cuz ever since sashas death ,erens confusing behaviour at start of s4 and all the shit going on i just decided to accept whatever the shit was thrown at me throughout this season lol

This scene always reminds me of graduating college. A lot of people are hyped just to be there but don’t know what’s beyond that… true life begins. The celebration is far too early, I always felt like eren, having foresight on what was to come after the “wall”.

Several things; first of all this scene is simply a masterpiece. There is so much going on at the end that represents the dilemma and moral ambiguity of their situation at the time. Eren is first of all obviously not thrilled about killing his enemies. His character has come a long way, but Isayama himself has talked about this scene before in an interview and has noted that this is where Armin and Eren finally meet their differences. Also he states that their differences may make it so that they are not best friends by the end of the series. Armin has always been curious about the ocean. He was curious about the knowledge of the world and wondered whether or not it existed. Eren, meanwhile, was never curious. He thought that it simply must exist, but to see it meant that he was free. To Eren it was never about getting to see the places, but rather the freedom to be able to do it. Now that he is able to, he has realized himself that the freedom he has sought isn't even there and a more difficult, both morally and literally, road lies ahead. Another thing is the insane symbolism in this scene. As you notice Armin is holding a conch shell. There is nothing that lives in that shell, meaning that the creature has long moved out and went to a new home. The shell represents the walls that the Eldians live in and the fact that the creature and Eldians have moved past them. To the creature and the Eldians they cannot live without the shell and now only lies the unknown. Simply a masterful scene.
Eren's intention was never about getting to see the places like Armin but the freedom to be able to.

Everyone else saw freedom, Eren saw a cage. That big body of water was just a cage to prevent the people of Paradis leaving the island. On the other side of the water was enemies not freedom.

To think that for five years and four months, you believe that once Wall Maria was reclaimed and the Titans were eliminated, you'll be free... Only for one set of secrets and memories to change all that. You've made it to the ocean...but freedom is not there. It's across it, on the other side, and it's not a 50 m Titan keeping you caged from freedom, but another set of humans who used your own people as their weapons.

This scene hits hard. May not have been the major lore drop or plot twist or cliffhanger that a lot of anime-only fans were wanting, and it’s unfortunate a lot of them write this scene off, but it’s better than any of that. This is Eren, our protagonist (despite the ensemble cast of characters), at his despairing, accepting, burdened best. What comes after for his arc is truly haunting. Isayama is a master of CHARACTER and what he took with Eren from season one and crafted him - nay, beat him - into is truly heartbreaking. One of the rare protagonists in a show that truly undergoes believable if saddening change. Hope others grow to appreciate these melancholy moments before the shit really hits the fan in season 4.
totally agree with you, I think we're similiar. we both like these little scenes and appreciate it. it doesn't always have to be a fight or a cliffhanger. the music and emotion and feels definetly cant be underappreciated

Many people are interpreting Eren's question as murderous determination, yet I always felt different about this scene.
The Eren we see here is *lamenting* the cruel world. We know for a fact that the world is the enemy, and Eren is crestfallen by that realisation. Is literally killing everyone else in the world what it takes for the Eldians to regain their freedom? It's a sick joke, it's horrifying and cruel.
I agree because Eren is accepting the burden of freeing his people (doing what he thinks is the best)and making himself the "villain" (he is not though) so that it will stop the war once and for all.

That's why he resolved, at the very fucking least, to give the ones he loved most the chance at obtaining the freedom and happiness he never could. No matter how horrific and personally painful it was, he kept moving forward simply hoping he ended up being right without ever knowing if any of this even meant anything. That's why one of the most heavy scenes is Eren, nothing but a head and spine suspended in his Founding titan with his eyes closed, completely alone with even those he loves against him simply trying to block out the gut wrenching screams and footsteps just below him. Just suspended there, with no perception of time and nothing to do but reflect on every moment of his life.

Attack on Titan is an actual masterpiece man. It's a one of a kind anime, it's not sexualizing the characters in any way and it makes sure the character doesn't get stabbed through the heart and live without a good explanation as to why. It couldn't have been made better.
That's right, anime nowadays seems to sell sexy characters to attract viewers. I know that a lot of series are good now, but should there be fan service/or sexualize women?

After reading chapter 131 and coming back watching this again, this line has a much darker meaning behind it and foreshadows what Eren actually intends to do afterwards.
Man I kept thinking about this scene while reading the manga (I just caught up). The manga had me questioning Eren's plan at first, but I kept thinking about this scene. Eren's been set on this ever since he first learned what was out there, and this scene is a clear foreshadowing of that.

It’s been established since chapter one that Eren will kill every single one of ‘them’ (at first titans until he realised who the real enemies were).
Now he’s just rumbling and killing all his enemies with wall titans, very predictable. I don’t understand all this weeb talk and why the surprise. The question now is, will Eren die along with his enemies, or will Isayama find a way to nakama friendship magic power everything to normal so they can all live happily ever after.

Well, when he touches Historia’s hands, he sees himself initiating the rumbling. In this scene, he’s trying to understand and justify that thought. But we see his internal struggle and dilemma to try to thwart that future. He constantly tries to go against Zeke’s plan of a test rumbling, however in the end, he realizes there’s no other way. I don’t think it was ever laid in stone that Eren would kill them all. There was a possibility of a good ending, but Eren knew what had to be done for his people.
