THIS! THIS is how you conduct an interview! That girl deserves a raise! I am thoroughly impressed with how thought out her questions were. Those where real "interview " questions, not some 3rd grader bull shit like " what did you like most about filming? ". These questions allowed us to see inside the directors mind and his thought process. Bravo on you girl! you're putting a lot of other big named interviewers to shame!
Much respect to this guy. I've been a fan since the beginning. Even the ones that didn't do as well, I could at least appreciate that he was trying to do something no one else was doing. And you have to admit, when he's on his game, he's really on his game. Like with Split. I'm so ecstatic over the movie!
I liked Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs. I didn't like Village, the Happening or Lady in The Water. I sure as hell didn't like Last Airbender. I hated Devil. I never seen The Visit but I heard that was the movie that made him claw his way out of the bad light. Whereas Split kept him out.
I don't know how I stumbled across this video, but I'm mostly commenting to say that this interviewer is great. Her questions, her delivery and her level of interest. M. Night is obviously very intriguing too. Side note, I did watch Split last week and really enjoyed it
M Night Shyamalan is an amazing filmmaker and he may have made mistakes (all great directors did some) but what I think makes him so great is his almost child like never ending enthusiasm about creating good original and enjoyable movies. He seems like such a great person and a risk taker as well. In a hollywood plagued by remakes and reboots and cliches people like M. Night Shyamalan are gems that deserve more respect from audiences. I like how people forget so easily that he did so many good movies just because of two failures (in my opinion the only really bad movies he made are the happening and the last airbender). He's an inspiring director for me and people should appreciate his originality and the soul he puts in everything he creates more.
He is one of the only directors that has the balls to actually comeback after some massive failures. He realised that he cannot do big bidget films, so he has scaled that back down a ton with The Visit and Split, both are around just $5 million dollars in budget.
This man is fucking with us, he makes an epic debut,.....loses his shit somewhere in the middle and takes quite the dive, and THEN! Makes a comeback with an old folk horror found footage film, not too long after makes a masterpiece that may be better than any superhero franchise we know today??? He's working for Trump............misdirection. Bless M.Night tho :)
Split doesn't have a twist, it had a reveal. A twist changes that story. A reveal adds to the story. Without the ending scene of Split, the movie is still the exact same movie. It just added a dimension. The ending of Sixth Sense is a twist because it completely changed the story you had just saw.
He's a brilliant writer and director. Unfortunately, he had tremendous success when he was very young. Everyone expected all his works to be masterpieces. Unfortunately, life does not work that way. He's very good and very, very underrated. I hope he continues making movies.
M Night Shyamalan, Quentin Tarrintino, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorcese and Christopher Nolon are my favorite directors. Then their are directors that I like less but are still great such as Sam Mendes, Robert Zemickes, Stanley Kubrick, and Ron Howard.
The thing with M. Night, and the reason i like him despite some of his movies being really bad, is this; He has never(!) had a bad idea, all his movies are GREAT concepts, but executed poorly. Split was awesome though, M. Night seems like a really cool guy
the fact that people are scared they are stupid.. the point of movie was to tell that people have power to change there body chemistry just by belief and we need love to heal deeper trauma etc.. more like beauty and the beast rather than horror flick
At first the way the interviewer was talking about paranormal activity and her reaction to the movie I was worried that is was going to be a shitty interview but she actually had really good questions !
The best part of this movie is the marketing, the fact it wasn't eluded in any of the marketing that it's in the same universe as Unbreakable - pure genius.
23 chromosomes? There being a myth about the 24th chromosome giving enhanced abilities. The 24th personality, giving you better abilities .. from some movie called Doom.
M. Night is very talented and gifted as a movie director and producer. It takes a lot of talent to create movies and he is truly in the top ten of all time movie making one-of-a-kind. His movies are mystical, thought provoking and entertaining. You have to be in tune with the mystical parallel universe to understand his movies. Can’t wait for the next one.
Shyamalan is a director not afraid to make original material. Although he’s doing a sequel, his films always at least attempt to do something different in a sequel, reboot and remake saturated Hollywood.
YES!!!!!I knew it. When I saw Hedwig dancing I said it reminded me of Silence of the Lambs when the killer was dancing to "Goodbye Horses!!!!" I felt it was a complete rip but in a good way.
I really enjoyed this movie. What I loved about the twist or reveal, is how it brought to light the connection to a past film while simultaneously switching the genre of the movie from a thriller/horror, to something else.. I thought it was brilliant. By the way (SPOILER WARNING) M. knight. Shyamalan just announced 2 days ago that the sequel to Unbreakable titled "Glass" is being developed with Bruce Willis and Samuel L Jackson coming back as well as James Macavoy. As I was hoping for, it's gonna involve a showdown between Bruce Willis's character (David) and Macavoy's (The beast). 2019.. can't wait.
...did anyone actually COUNT the 23 different personas? cuz I don't remember seeing 23 distinct personalities &, to me, it would have had the same effect with, say, 8...right? I mean...RIGHT?
I wish there is a Split 2! Because Im being honest -whispers- Dennis is my favorite no joke ;);););););) lol please stop me from commenting on TH-cam videos.
The same reason everybody keeps on hiring *Michael Bay, the worst filmmaker in America.* Nobody in Hollywood cares whether the work is shit or not, all they care about is how followed the director is, whether their followings are deserved or not.
I had to stop watching this movie, not because it was scary, but because it was unbelievable and more than insulting. The one scene where I decided to stop watching the movie is where the young girl hit her capture with a chair from behind. Who in their right mind would only hit him once? Really this was insulting. She should have continued to hit him until he was down and then some more. They both should have attacked him to subdue him. This is not the point where you run, it is where you continue to do what ever is necessary to subdue an individual who has given you every reason he will kill you eventually. After you have him down and restrained is when you look for keys and a way out. In the real world this is where the movie would have ended. When a movie insults me I loose interest really fast, unless of course I expect to be insulted like watching a Spider man movie where any viewer knows all reason is suspended for the duration of the movie. I really don't understand why more people don't find this movie unbelievable. Gush over this movie if you like which is OK if you have turned your reason and logic off in your brain.
Split is a mega hit movie. Collected $ 250 million for a $9 million budget. Night Shyamalan is BACK baby !
RoyalBob it's Mr. M. Knight Shyamalan to you buddy.
He makes some of the best movies when he's in good shape.
Bravo on you girl! you're putting a lot of other big named interviewers to shame!
agreed
AriQuinn92 absolutely agree, such an enlightening discussion and she cultivated that.
Agreed
AriQuinn92 don't let Jake Hamilton read this! -Lol
Agree
"Been a long time since a movie scared me"
*happy giggling shyamalan*
"...since paranormal activity"
*disgusted, disappointed as shit shyamalan*
Did you see his disappointment when she said paranormal activity.
him and me both... like come on don't compare split to the paranormal activity shit
Ben Bates I'm dying
"Ohh"
jessica lamborte yeah that seems like a link I should click on for sure. Nothin fishy there.
SAM MC it's at the beginning.
0:18 I've never seen a interviewee so visibly crushed in my life.
I don't know why too many people dislike his movies...cause I think he is brilliant!
Jay The Wolf Wonder very brilliant director with a few flops
Spencer Johnson I Agree!
People do not like originality or new things, I learnt this from trying product design, hence why movie and game sequels get a lot of money
Jay The Wolf Wonder Lol I think Its because we are used to him disappointing us 😂😂😂😂
People think Airbender (flop) outweighs Signs, Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, and The Visit. Doesn't make any sense, he still has made great movies.
That was the best explanation of creating a "twist" in a story that I've ever heard.
Much respect to this guy. I've been a fan since the beginning. Even the ones that didn't do as well, I could at least appreciate that he was trying to do something no one else was doing. Original? Well I guess you haven't heard of the plagiarism accusations against him. Those are pretty strong ones specially the case on The Village.
What if that's what he wants you to think. He makes you think he's working for Trump, but then it turns out he's working for Hillary. WHAT A TWIST!!
Split doesn't have a twist, it had a reveal. A twist changes that story. A reveal adds to the story. Without the ending scene of Split, the movie is still the exact same movie. It just added a dimension. The ending of Sixth Sense is a twist because it completely changed the story you had just saw.
M. Night Shyamalan is my fave director. I adore this man. He’s a genius. It makes me want to be an indian.
Job Nollan what do you mean by be an Indian
Not to difficult. Pretty easy citizenship to get. Terrible passport to have though.
brilliant director
He's a brilliant writer and director. Unfortunately, he had tremendous success when he was very young. Everyone expected all his works to be masterpieces. Unfortunately, life does not work that way. He's very good and very, very underrated. I hope he continues making movies.
What a fresh set of questions! I really enjoyed this.
he's thinking "i hope they dont bring up avatar"
TehKoNDa *The Last Airbender
*Avatar: The Last Airbender
hate this man bc what he did to avatar
I love M. Night Shyamalan! He's such a brilliant and creative person
He was drinking Dr. Pepper while coming up with the number of personalities
Agreed, but I'd put Kubrick as the same level as them, and also Hitchcock :)
his icon to aspiring directors especially Indians. I am proudly saying his Indian.
dream visuals India have lot of directors better than him in Indian film industry
Sagar W wtf bitch? name some.
Sagar W That doesn't change that he's an aspiration.
Debangsu Sarkar nobody in India is better than him.
Great interview questions!
agreed
He looks like the kid from Jungle Book

He really is, and he is a fantastic story teller.
Just like Stephen King, not all good stories make good movies.
very good and informative interview.
2:09 "Is there a specific reason for the number '23'?"
"Uh, yeah, so I was watching that Jim Carey movie, 'The Number 23', the night before.."
Oh yeah yeah
The thing with M. Night, and the reason i like him despite some of his movies being really bad, is this; He has never(!) had a bad idea, all his movies are GREAT concepts, but executed poorly.
Split was awesome though, M. Night seems like a really cool guy
the fact that people are scared they are stupid.. the point of movie was to tell that people have power to change there body chemistry just by belief and we need love to heal deeper trauma etc.. more like beauty and the beast rather than horror flick
No matter how good this movie was, I will never forgive this man for TLA.
At first the way the interviewer was talking about paranormal activity and her reaction to the movie I was worried that is was going to be a shitty interview but she actually had really good questions !
Damn.. can't wait for Glass.. go Full Circle Night..
How much you guys wanna bet he chose the name Orwell after catching a glimpse of the name "George Orwell" on one of the books in his library?
omg I just watched this it was so good
Y’all all love him now🤣 you do know he’s the same director as the avatar the last air bender movie right
I can't forgive avatar but after split i have put him back in my good books.
The best part of this movie is the marketing, the fact it wasn't eluded in any of the marketing that it's in the same universe as Unbreakable - pure genius.
I think that left people very confused if they haven´t watched unbreakable
agreed, pure genius
A intriguing...terrifying...edge of your seat movie...So Good
I have many leather-bound books...lol
fu
Dr. Fletcher is also the name for the Mia Farrow character in "Zelig".
23 chromosomes? There being a myth about the 24th chromosome giving enhanced abilities. The 24th personality, giving you better abilities .. from some movie called Doom.
It's really weird watching the last season of Bates Motel after watching this movie. There were so many similarities I saw lol

Great content, thank you!
YES!!!!!I knew it. When I saw Hedwig dancing I said it reminded me of Silence of the Lambs when the killer was dancing to "Goodbye Horses!!!!" I felt it was a complete rip but in a good way.

what did the Beast say at the end? It started with "Only through pain..."
I don’t understand how he is responsible for some of the best movies and the worst movies 🤣
huge Shyamalan fan and love this film, but I don't understand why so many people call it scary, it's not scary, and neither is Paranormal Activity
The number 23 Jim carry movie ? Hmmmm

THE NUMBER 23 ?!!!?!?!?
"Scary" ya ok
The number 23 is a cursed number.
Why does everybody keep on hiring me? All of my work is shiiiiiiiiiit.
The same reason everybody keeps on hiring *Michael Bay, the worst filmmaker in America.* Nobody in Hollywood cares whether the work is shit or not, all they care about is how followed the director is, whether their followings are deserved or not.
Hes no Michael Bay though, relax ya’ll just a joke
she lying cuz this movie wasn't scary, I love this movie but it wasn't scary
M night is better than Nolan
Nnope.
Michael jackson is still alive??
