@Rajesh Sivaram he didn't even get nominated. The Oscars are too biased. They only look into the "Oscar bait" types of movies. Sad, stern, pretentious, and with long close up face shots. You know what I'm talking about.
I’m not gonna lie. He 100,000,000% absolutely no doubt got cheated out of receiving an Oscar. James totally deserved an Oscar for this performance. He was remarkable at 9 characters while others were perhaps only “alright” as 1 character.
Many alters can do that because they co-host enough that they learn how to impersonate the regular host. That's why the true number of people with DID isn't known; because someone can have it and not know it and the alters that front don't want anyone to find out, so they pretend to be the person.
I predict that McAvoy will get an oscar or several before he dies. Only 37, alot of famous and highly skilled people havent even made it into a big movie by them.
@@jenny.shelby Yeah, in x men days of future past, in the scenes on the plane when charles gets really emotional, his acting is really good too, but filth was just another level... At the end of the day, he is good in every film he does. 💙💙
A lot of people didn't get Unbreakable, waiting for a second, third, etc. Sixth sense, but now that we can see the entire trilogy, including Glass, it shows what a genus Shyamalan is. And McAvoy, uff, he's so deserving of an Oscar!
The first time you see Patricia, so fucking gold. The little "hmm?" and whatever that face he/she gives main girl (I forgot her name) lol that shit was like the perfect combo of Humor, Comfort, and Fear.
I’ve seen this film 6 times...it’s probably my favourite film ever, James’ performance was absolutely amazing, he portrays the different personalities so effortlessly!! A true talent...❤️😍😱
What he said about leaving things out to let the audience fill it in themselves. So much yes. Thats not just for film either, I think some people doubt the power of that.
It won't. M. Night made a few crappy movies, and earned a reputation as someone with a funny name to be ridiculed. So "The Academy" will probably ignore this movie. Also, the content of this movie tends to be something boring people would label as "weird", and weird movies, no matter how great, don't win Hollywood awards.
The premise of tricking the personalities to fight against each other in order to escape actually never played out in the film. Hedwig is easily manipulated, but he did not hold the ability to get the girls out, and he didn't want the girls to leave anyways. So....the whole "impurity" thing and the main girl's painful past got her out of her imprisonment, not the personalities tripping over each other.
+Barbaro267 There was no "premise of tricking the personalities to fight against each other". Would have made for an even greater movie though. But it's not in this one.
barbaro267 was he easily manipulated? I think he was manipulated only by Dennis and the matriarch character. The personalities were too committed to overcome the host. The three personalities grooming the young women for the beast did not have enough time to be convinced otherwise. The beast was making his appearance as quickly as possible.
barbaro267 Well, Barry didn't like what they were doing, did he? He was the one who knew all the personalities but Dennis and Patricia took his power to "come to the light" at will.
Ok seeing as how everyone in the comments is praising James for his looks, acting, and accent and/or praising M. Night whilst making fun of his last name, etc. I guess it's my job to point out the girls did an ok to great job and I enjoyed seeing them...
Anya Taylor-Joy did do wonderfully, she's a great actress, I love her in The Witch! From what I can see from interviews, she seems so kinda and down-to-earth and very insightful. Jessica Sula wasn't bad either, but I wasn't so impressed with Hayley Lu Richardson's acting. Was kinda surprised that she got the part.
Samantha Smith . Valid points indeed I only just saw the film a short spell ago so I dont remember the character names but I felt the "dirty blonde" was the weak link. The lead was great and the other was ok. They were all easy on the eyes as well so theres Hollywood for ya.
I highly appreciate how m night did a lot of research on DID before making this movie. It's very realistic how he explains that it's a controversial mental disorder
Absolutely Brilliant!!!! MNight Is Fascinating, brilliant James McAvoy Is Brilliant playing these Identities, Left me wanting More, I Can't for " Glass"
something really peculiar happened when i watched this. my brain 'saw' him with different hair on each personality. afterwards i had to go back and watch the preview to see the same haircut. i guess it is just a credit to mcavoy's ability to project an idea with his acting. it was a challenging film for me emotionally as i dated someone with this mental process. it was not as pronounced but still that also was challenging. we have really a narrow way of perceiving others and even containing their personalities or preventing change in them. so having relationship with someone who exhibits change constantly is profound.
The only real twists is revealing that the beast was real and seeing how he looks and what he was capable of. And also, i guess seeing that the last girl doesnt die because she is pure. Ohhh and i guess maybe at the end with the man in the wheel chair reference, that made it link to another movie. Is there Any other twist i miss?
Yeah, that it take place*** SPOILER*** in the same world as Unbreakable. This twist changes the genre of the movie, cause we thought it was a thriller, but it actually was a Super Villain origin set in a realistic world all along.
If anyone wants to read more into this, DID, I highly recommend "When Rabbit Howls". It's the true story of Truddi Chase who had 96 distinct personalities. Truddi writes in first person, and writes as other personalities as well. The book does an excellent job of explaining how and when Truddi's brain creates these personalities. This is the type of book that stays with you.
I clapped like a giddy school girl at the end of split. So exciting waiting for Glass. When Kevin shifted into the beast i dropped jaw. Even tho it was so simple a transformation. And when he realized as the Horde she was Broken just like him and said "the broken are the more evolved" that was perfect. It explained why he transformed to begin with. And could she eventually do the same to join Dunn? Who knows. I don't know if her character will be in the next universe. But she should. m.night worked so hard on allowing us into her world and helping us understand who she is. And than going thru this abduction as well. It must've awoken something great inside of her. Much love M.Night.
