    It's the same for non-EU passports at many major European airports, especially during peak holidays. Queue up to 1 hour is not unheard of. Not saying that KLIA has nothing to improve, but you are probably too used to the privileges of an EU passport (fast immigration in Europe due to automated gates or immigration officers not asking many questions) that you become unprepared in other parts of the world.

      This is a fair comment..speaking of which KLIA must seriously improve immigration speed especially KUL and SIN sector since it's if of the busiest international routes in the world!

    @Jsmylles 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +43

    You can go through the automatic gates in KLIA now with a passport from Australia, Brunei, Germany, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, United States and United Kingdom

    The moral of the story is to come to the airport more than 2 hours before flight. KLIA can be inefficient sometimes but in this case, the fault was your's. Malaysian Airlines is fine. I'm from Spore and always had pleasant experiences with them.

    Many situations can accumulate to unpleasant experience. It is not singular.
    1. Arrive late to airport
    2. Unhelpful staff at counter
    3. Too many tourists (airport facilities cannot handle it)

    Sorry about the ordeal you guys went through. If this was filmed anytime during the past 4 weeks then it would have been during the long Chinese New Year/school holidays period. The airport authority does remind passengers to come at least 3 hours in advance during busy periods. Happy to see you guys made it in the end

    I think a good rule of thumb is get to airport 3 hours before flight for international. Unless you are at a very efficient airport like Changi

      And look at the dates...whether it's school holidays, Lunar New Year etc. You should see the queues at Bangkok airport around Christmas. Makes KLIA seem trivial.

    Get to airport 1.5 hours before your flight and expect Royal treatment through security? 😅 Moral of the story, don’t think your airline status will magically open gates for you 😂. #firstworldproblems

    I fly out of KUL frequently and it's a mess during peak hours. Malaysian has exactly one counter bank (H) for bag drop for all economy class passengers, then immigration seems to have a rule that there will only be 3 agents working your section (at both terminals). At busy times, you will be waiting over 30 minutes to drop your bag and then probably another 20 mins. to an hour possibly, if you're unlucky, in the Immigration line. Plus, the train to the satellite terminal is still out of order, so better arrive at least two hours before your flight.

  • @Presyden
    @Presyden 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

    I flew through KL yesterday, and the queues were exactly the same for me. It's a good thing I gave myself plenty of time.

  • @aeroAdvocate
    @aeroAdvocate 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +22

    Since when does it matter how long the flight takes? You should always go there at least 2 hours before. KLIA is a complete mess and the connector train is broken as well.

    I came to Malaysia end of February, landed at KLIA 1 10.45PM, took the bus to Main terminal qued at the immigration, and got out of the airport at 12AM. KLIA 1 immigration que is nuts, standing for 45min just to get stamp that is less then few minutes.

  • @JoeChanTV
    @JoeChanTV 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    The next time, similar situation happen in Malaysia: is since there were two of you, one person stay in the original position in the queue while the other move out to investigate the option, never fully trust what anyone who tell you otherwise. This way if you need to abort the plan, you still have your original standing in the queue, that way maybe you could've made it for boarding.

  • @clifbradley
    @clifbradley 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +29

    Sounds like nobody there knows what they are talking about. Like going to Heathrow with a British Airways flight that gets canceled but they don't tell you. Total hassle and they send you to 3 different places and you get blank stares, no apologies and a nonchalant clerk who acts like you're the most annoying person they've dealt with that day and the flight getting canceled was somehow your fault.

  • @ewanmcintosh
    @ewanmcintosh 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    My colleague and I arrived 3 hrs before our flights last month. We nearly missed boarding even with immediately joining the priority queue. The refrain of “ask the passengers in front of you if you can skip” is what I heard many times. It means that everyone ends up running.
    KLIA opened up massively to the Chinese market recently and nearly doubled their arrival desks. They’ve not visibly added to the departures yet. Plus their new e-visa conditions for automated gates isn’t clear.

  • @k9krolY
    @k9krolY 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

    Dan, the lesson here isn’t ’check business class and pay extra so you can have priority immigration’
    The lesson here is: get to the airport earlier so that you don’t have to worry about this.
    I fully understand that maybe KLIA hasn’t caught up with Changi in terms of biometric immigration for international travelers, but the onus still lies on the traveler to show up for their flight in a timely fashion, just in case things like this happen.
    It’s not that MAS wants you to miss your flight - in fact, MAS has been the most lenient airline I’ve experienced, and that’s also because KLIA is their hub.
    Honestly, just… just show up earlier in the future.

I’ll be sharing this video so they’re aware of the gaps in their system and how service can be improved! At the bare minimum some compassion should be shown by immigration officers on those whose flights depart in less than 30 mins….

    I had a similar experience with Malaysia Airlines during check-in. Since I didn't feel like waiting for hours, I chose self-check-in and printed out my boarding pass. I just wanted to quickly go to the baggage drop and be done with it. Unfortunately, Malaysia Airlines also checked in passengers at the baggage drop counter, which took a very long time. Had to wait in line for an hour just for the baggage drop. Luckily I'm always a few hours early because I wanted to fly to London

At the end i was still lucky enough to finally arrived at the gate on the very last minute (ofc need to take the bus to the satelite terminal too) with my shirt full of sweats!

    Going through security at Singapore after getting off the plane is one of the most inane things to go through.
    This usually happens If you're flying from KUL or DMK on a budget airline. I'm guessing they're checking for vapes and CBD products, both of which are illegal in Singapore, but easily obtainable in those 2 countries.
    But for some reason, full service airlines like SQ, MH and TG are never targeted.

    First time ever I took a flight (2012), I arrived at the airport 2h15min before the scheduled plane departure. I had only carry-on luggage, on-line check-in and a printed boarding pass... so I directly went to the security control. It took 3 hours (to control passengers for 2 regular sized planes, so less than 400 people)... there was only one control point and as we were in February, they were asking everybody to get their boots down. Than about 30 min for passport control, another 10 min for the bus... and when I got in the plane, there were 10 people in it... already almost 2 hours after the scheduled departure. Fortunatelly, the company (WizzAir) just waited about 30 min more so everybody can get to the plane (which was fully booked). At that time, Wizz didn't sell seat reservations (except extra space seats), so everybody was sitting wherever they wanted.
    I thought that was standard procedure (to wait all check passengers to get to the plane), but I was just lucky.

    Maybe there was something going on at that time. 1st Feb we were flying out of Singapore to Europe. We had checked in 6 hrs early after a earlier flight. We went into Chinatown like we always do for dinner. After 2hrs of trying to get a taxi we were in middle of Singapore 50 mins before boarding. We found the MRT, then had to get from T2 to T1. Get through Immigration and security. Ran all the way through Singapore Airport and got to the gate 5 mins before they closed boarding. Never been so stressed. We fly BC. In future we will stay at airport and use the lounge.
    Munich Airport security in T1 is slow as too. We were in BC line for nearly an hour. Most inefficent screening and checking anywhere in the world i have ever seen. Lucky we had heaps of time.

Try to check if your passport is eligible for KLIA autogate as it may help you guys to go through the immigration checks quicker, especially during the peak period, and it can be a plus for frequent travellers. The autogate was available only for Malaysian passport, but they have since opened it for a few other nationalities too. Have an awesome day!

    All of these travel disruptions are both deliberate and by design - even when travelling by train between Manchester via Chester, Crewe and Lladnuo and Holyhead for the ferry to Dublin, I’ve encountered the same problems due to a rail strike, where I ended up being stranded in Holyhead for 2 days in October 2022, unable to return to Manchester after visiting family in Ireland - flights to and from both Manchester and Liverpool airports were either delayed and/or cancelled at the same time as well

    You should give those Airport Surveys and tell them of your experience

    Do you have to go through passport if you’re getting a connecting flight?

      No, you don't have to if you are booked on the same ticket the whole way!

      Immigration dept should not advise for airlines tickets. It's out of their range. But yeah, we just heard only from one side. So we don't know the real story

    But when a minister and upper tier officers came to check the immigration counter, suddenly every counter is open and available. Every staff will magically appear and working hard. 😅😅😅

    Queue what queue? Malaysians and some passport holders can go to the e-Gates. You didn't. Your problem.

    I’m sure that was a complete nightmare but it was a lot of fun to watch! 🤣 Incredible business class for $100 too, that was awesome.

    For an airline not to have expedited security and immigration at their home hub airport, for those in the highest available alliance status, is a terrible move on their part. I would think that it would be a minimum in terms of service.

    Complain? Complain about what? This happens all the time, now you’re just getting a taste of it. Start off my arriving earlier, a travel writer should know this!
    I thought you were stopping doing these vlogs anyway.
