How about some post-Kansas Kerry Livgren? All the way from solo albums (like Seeds of Change with Ronnie James Dio, 13:0013:04 and many more) to albums from AD (like Art of the State, etc) to Proto Kaw (like Before Became After & The Wait of Glory). So much great music from one of the finest songwriters in the world! How in the world could you miss these???
Haven't we had this discussion before? You seem to think that anything Kerry Livgren is the only artist worth covering here on SoT. There are TONS of artists to get to...the Proto-Kaw stuff will come eventually. I've only ever heard Kerry first solo album.
@ Heaven forbid that I mention a Christian artist. It’s interesting that you think you can read my mind. I’ve suggested other artists too, but you seem to forget. I’m not going through the list, but for example I’ve mentioned Al Stewart a number of times. Just forget it. There are plenty of other show hosts who recognize Kerry’s brilliance and discuss it often. No need to stick with SoT.
Mike Slamer is a great guitarist, and his work with City Boy really needs more recognition. It's criminal how underappreciated City Boy is; 7 albums, 7 solid releases; should've been bigger. Slamer was also in Steelhouse Lane and Seventh Key, that I know of.
My Slamer playlist (134 total tracks) contains those bands plus Chris Thompson's Won't Lie Down, Devil's Hand (s/t), Shopan Entesari & Mike Slamer's cutting Edge Rock, Steve Walsh's solo Glossolalia, and Slamer's solo Nowhere Land. Excellent guitar player
Dave Edmunds band "Love Sculpture" had two spectacular albums... The 1st album blues inspired and the 2nd album had some prog elements. Would make a great ranking the albums show.
And if anyone can find a copy of Slamer's Nowhere Land (with Terry Brock on vocals), grab it. Fantastic album, and "Come To Me" could've been a massive it the 80's.
Talk about coincidence. I was just thinking yesterday about Streets and if Pete would ever do a vid ranking them. I thought since there only were two, it may have to come down to ranking their songs individually. Lo and behold, the next day...
Both albums are great, I love 'em; but they're clearly aimed at that time's FM radio (kinda like Asia I'd say) AOR/Pop/Melodic rock gems, in my book. Thanks! 🍺🤘
Fotomaker was excellent, especially their s/t debut...Some of Tycoon's music strikes me as too 'smooth' (kinda like Toto), especially Turn Out The Lights, but their s/t debut album is good & Opportunity Knocks has a few good tracks. Actually the 'related' band Blackstone is better (to me). Their 1973 album On The Line is excellent
I got into this band when I was looking into Mike Slamer after learning about a little conspiracy about him playing all of the guitars on Warrant's first 2 albums (which he is credited as a session player on), and I wanted to get a feel for his style so I could decide for myself how much I believe it. I don't think I believe it, but he is definitely the selling point in this band.
Streets 1st came out in November 83, so really 1984 was just around the corner. Crimes In Mind came out in early 1985, I think March? So, not much time was actually between the records.
With Kansas being all over Kansas City radio, "If Love Should Go" and "Move On" were being played on KY102 that summer. Just too bad they only lasted 2 album (plus a KBFH live album.) Crimes In Mind is damn good, too. I'd go with the debut first, and then Crimes. Both are separated by a thin hair.
Big Steve Walsh fan. Tried to get into the Streets albums this year. Didn't find one good, memorable song. By contrast Steve's solo albums are quite good, especially his debut and Glossolalia.
Thanks for your review of streets I would like to suggest reviewing seventh key they also have mike slamer with billy Greer from Kansas on vocals .I believe they have 3 studio albums and 1 or 2 live albums maybe you could put them on your list.
I didn't know about Streets until I saw In Full Bloom interview on TH-cam!!!! The interview was with Beau Hill, and he mentioned Mike Slamer from Streets!!! So, I looked it up on wilkapedia!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks, Grant and Pete, for the ranking of the band. Even though only two albums, completely unknown band before this episode. Will certainly be listening to these and likely adding another purchase to the SoT buying list. Thanks again, guys!
Bought Crimes In Mind when it came out but didn't find the debut until the Rock Candy reissue. I really like them both but maybe because I've lived with it a lot longer, I prefer the former. Happier with the sound too (never keen on Neil Kernon's work).
You could rank, besides City Boy, everything else that Mike Slammer did... And oh boy, what excellent albums he did, Streets, Seventh Key, Steve Walsh, Solo...
Both are fantastic albums "If Love" and "One-Way Street" received some radio play in the greater SF Bay Area. Grant and Pete, if you want to hear heavy, get the KBFH live show. You'd swear it was a metal band... that guitar sound slams! ... and I personally love that you guys do 2 album rankings. It's more of a discussion on them and putting these bands back into the public ear.
@@Belexes At least 3 very good bands under that name: 1) The Japanese fusion band (great - at least 35 or so releases from the mid 70's through 2017). 2) The 70's prog band out of TX (aka Ibis/Hands) - under that name I only have their Live 75-77 album (very solid). 3) Then there's the Canadian AOR band that's got a ton of good albums - at least 6 studio (I like 'em all except for the last two Big Black Sky & Jericho) plus a live one (Prism Live Tonite At Detroit's Royal Oak from '78). And the very good compilation Over 60 Minutes with... Prism
So THAT is what Steve Walsh did after leaving Kansas. I never heard of this. Apparently the label gave them zero promotion. Thanks guys. I will check them out.
Streets was pretty good - only 3 releases (including a live one) that I know of. Like 'em more for Mike Slamer's (City Boy/Seventh Key/Devil's Hand/Steelhouse Lane) guitars than for Steve Walsh though. Their albums 1st & King Biscuit Flower Hour are about equally good with Crimes In Mind 'bringing up the rear' as it were. Some solid AOR to be had with plenty of melodic hooks. Could've made an impact I think if they'd put out more material
It is strange to do a ranking the albums show for a band that has only 2 studio albums, but anything that shines the light on a monster guitar player like Mike Slamer is a good thing. Hey, have you guys done a show on City Boy yet? Mike Slamer's first band and Mutt Lange produced their first 5 albums.
Hey Pete I love Streets' great albums. You and Grant should rank The Little River Band, I'm surprised you haven't ranked their albums yet. They are very diverse with classic rock, jazz, pop, hard rock and even yacht rock! Its very in a similar vain as Player and Poco which you both did wonderfully shows on.
When I 1st noticed the topic I was puzzled. Ranking Streets albums! I thought they only had the 1. I did not know there was a 2nd. I bought the 1st record when it came out. I still have it somewhere. I was very disappointed. Too AOR for me. I listened to it again yrs later. Still didn’t like it. Never listened to it again. Sorry, your discussion didn’t move me. No interest in hearing it again or buying that other album. Too much music I want to look into, not enough money to buy it. I’ll go with what I remember of Streets. Just an AOR band. I seem to remember one track was ok, but that’s not enough. Most of it was boring to me.
Cool video guys! Do you plan on ranking some of the bigger thrash bands that you haven't yet done? (Death Angel, Annihilator, Razor, Nuclear Assault etc...)
Mike was a hell of a guitar player. Lstien to it on Glossolalia, the solo album by Steve. He's stunning!
I just ordered it! Thanks for the recommendation!
"Mascara Tears" is an amazing song.
@@btfvinylmagic1180 Yea, the Magna Carta label album with Trent Gardner's(Magellan) involvement. That's a great dark album.

@wolf1977 Wow. Will have to check out the releases in your list. And, yes, great guitarist; should be better known.
Seventh Key is killer. His playing is excellent, hes a brilliant player who very few know of.
@@Kalprog Sadly, yes.

Really good thumbnail. They’re getting a lot better.
Dave Edmunds band "Love Sculpture" had two spectacular albums... The 1st album blues inspired and the 2nd album had some prog elements. Would make a great ranking the albums show.
I love the king biscuit flower hour live album … it’s the only thing I’ve heard from streets
Yes!!! Yes!!!! Finally, my favorite band is getting some love ❤️ and recognition!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂 Streets are awesome!!!! They kicked butt!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉😊😊😂

Agreed, very good album
You could do a whole show on Mike Slamer, his work with Steelhouse lane or his own band Slamer is awesome

The guitar sound on that live album is so heavy!
@@JoeChewBaca, I still think Slamer is one of rock's best kept secrets. Monster player.
@@ericwalker6068 Yeah kinda like John Sykes - both shoulda been bigger names
"Everything is Changing" was a single too, its very campy music video is on TH-cam and "Don't Look Back" has one too very similar clips.
Coincidentally this was the date 12/8/83 that I bought the debut Streets record. I had seen them play just before that on November 5.
Was introduced to Dees guys on a past contrarians fell in love with the 1st 2.thank you!
Crimes In Mind is my fave!

There's a UK band called The Streets, not to be confused.
Interesting that the first Streets album and the Kansas album Drastic Measures were both produced by Neil Kernon
'The nightmare begin's' is their best song imo
Thanks, Grant and Pete, for the ranking of the band. Even though only two albums, completely unknown band before this episode. Will certainly be listening to these and likely adding another purchase to the SoT buying list. Thanks again, guys!

How about ranking the Top 10 songs from bands that only have 2 or 3 albums? Just a thought.
Great couple of albums, nothing to choose between them.
I have both albums and a live album from King Biscuit hour.
Same here. I favor CiM slightly over the debut.
Wait... 2 albums (and a King Biscuit Flower Hour release) and you're ranking the albums? LOL, I gotta see this!
At least they didn't put out a Greatest Hits package (that I know of) like some bands with one or two total albums...
Pete explains in the video that it's just an excuse to talk about a band that a lot of people won't know

I was hoping for the best, but they sound dated to me.
Crimes In Mind gets my vote as the better of the two.
Yes, it has that typical Beau Hill sound he also gave Ratt and it works well on Fiona's second album too the excellent Beyond the Pale (1986).
In my opinion, Power by Kansas is that 3rd Streets album.
And Kansas had an album out at the same time, Drastic Measures also produced by Neil Kernon.
So THAT is what Steve Walsh did after leaving Kansas. I never heard of this. Apparently the label gave them zero promotion. Thanks guys. I will check them out.
You should. Really great hard rock/AOR and Walsh just goes all out. Slamer may be the one who shines the brightest, though. What a talent.

The launching pad for Mr. Mister...I have their 3 albums, not bad in spots. some of it's too 'commercial pop'/too smooth for me though
Good duo really, Richard Page and Steve George with a more West Coast yacht rock type sound.
