This may actually be one of my favorite series you make. I love van life videos and have been watching a couple build a house with NO experience and it's just been fascinating. I hope you list this as a series so I can find the videos easier, especially with youtube not recommending videos so I miss some. Please consider posting ALL the videos for each part of the build. They are fascinating and will be watched by many people down the road that want to do this too, or are into learning like I am. I think this is the main reason I like your videos. I like learning the things you choose to update/fix. Can't wait for more videos and excited to see how this turns out!

Hey Rich! Those former FedEx Vans are pretty tired. So check thoroughly mechanical condition. Especially - DEF and DPF systems. They could be a real headache. Also besides the radio, it doesn't have cruise control and has an active speed governor. However, all the upgrades could be done without spending lots of money. We are a dedicated Sprinter place here in WA state, work only on Sprinter Vans for over 7 years. We will be more than happy to help you in case you need a bit of advice or have any questions. Feel free to reach us!

Should have left the partition in there. Thats a great safety and privacy feature.. also treat any and all rust on these while its apart. When these start to rust they never start.

These vans are actually very reliable if maintained properly, especially with the 651 4cyl. We have a fleet of them at work that are nearing 300,000kms and are still doing great.

they may put the partiion back remember they had to dissasemble the entire interior to get to the subframe to see where rust is and to add insulation etc stuff you need to make a rv you cant really do all that with that partition and other shit in the way

A hide away composting toilet and a center floor shower...
The shower has a lift floor exposing a shower pan with 360 shower curtain... you will save so much space ...also loock into endless shower system as it is extremely popular this days within DIY and RVs minimalist living... for an air conditioning used a split ac with a soft start and 3000 watt disel generator that uses the vehicle's fuel (gas tank)... for solar get victron multiplus 3000 it's a all in one system with a 400 watt battery storage again you will save an incredible amount of space living enough space for a comfortable bed cooking area and a place for her to work.... for heating used a diesel air and water heater, living in the snow areas the heater will have more than enough heat to live in year round.
I do hope you consider my advice as I live in a van my self and wasting so much money trying to find the right combination.

The partition between the cab and the rear of the vehicle actually provides a great deal of strength to where the occupants sit!
Cutting a passageway into the partition is straightforward, but why remove a panel that significantly increases strength right where the crew sit?
Another benefit of having a doorway is that the living area can be better protected against a break in.
I had originally intended to remove the factory fitted bulkhead until I realized just how much additional strength it gave to that area and that removing it would actually reduce the strength of the van at that critical area.

You all chucked some of the best parts. I hope they’re going back in. Seal the floor panels with Rhino liner, put the door and jump seat back in for stealth urban camping. Fill the voids with insulation, an put those panels back on. And reuse the drivers side lower rack as a fold out bed, add a second fold to widen it. And just patch those holes with sheet metal and metal screws an sealant. You all need to focus on the primary survival aspects, electrical, water management, heating and air. Don’t waste budget on aesthetics.

Those Sprinters are great vans! I've worked for a taxi company and have done maintenance on tons of them. What a funny thing her RV is named Bertha; we used to have 1952 Magirus Deutz S3500 which we converted to a camper (an RV), she was named Fat Bertha, after the big german train gun.
There is a purpose built seat made specifically for any 5 gallon size-ish bucket. For Texas (and many other states) install a set of Dear whistles. They run silent to human ears, but dear hear it....

ya they may maintain it but I'm pretty sure FedEx drivers are heavier on the pedal than the average tradesman. Plus its stop and go constantly versus driving to one destination

Remember to get her the laptop + MB STAR (I like to keep mine in my ridge wallet) for when the thing finds a reason to go into limp mode on a trip. Like a temp miscompare due to corrosion in the oat sensor connector of all things! I don't leave town without it anymore.
That partition is so beefy because it's the only thing between the driver and all those loose packages in the back in case of an accident! These small vans don't tie down their cargo, one package is maybe a kilo but it may as well be 25-50 kg and it does get some speed from the back end to the partition wall, all of the heavy stuff is usually in the back so it's easier to get in and out!

The body panels are not hot dipped galvanized, just add some blocks of zinc in several places with direct metal to metal bond and it will significantly inhibit further rusting.

They don’t put radios in the vehicles because they don’t want the drivers distracted, which obviously doesn’t matter, if you know what I mean. (Used to drive for UPS) I used to sleep on the shelves during lunch and that jump seat isn’t comfortable at all. It’s spine crushing when hitting bumps and potholes.

The row of odd looking welds above the wheel arch were from pull studs welded on to pull out the crease in the panel, I wasn't surprised to see body filler on the other side.
